AFAIK, this is indeed an issue with the server configuration, but as
Ekiga use another mecanism for client behind a NAT and as it works with
other servers and is an IETF standard (STUN), you could as well ask
Empathy devs to add this feature in their client. On our side we cannot
fix it in a short time as our server administrator is not available at
 the moment...

You mean telepathy does not support Stun ? even for other protocols like

Good news ! Eugen. I don't think it's that weird that the NSIS process
would detect that the user does not have any rights under XP and thus
propose a DS/username/Ekiga install dir.

I even think that the firefox installer do this to. So IMO it's not a bug to

The main bug is that the uninstaller remove DS/username whole folder which
means the regedit uninstall key is not correctly read.

Thank you for the reply, Michel. I assure you that the install wanted to
install Ekiga in the My Documents directory. I made a deliberate decision to
allow it, because I thought maybe there was something in My Docs that Ekiga
could use. I thought it a bit unusual, but let it happen. I could have
browsed to Program Files and forced the install in that directory, but
 decided not to.

I thought the installdir the installer proposed was Mydocs but it seems it
was mydocs/ekiga which definitely tell there is a bug that leads the
uninstaller to remove the top directory of the installed directory.

It seems you misunderstood me.

Default setup install dir is obviously progfiles/ekiga !!!

On your machne for some reason it found or proposed mydocs/ekiga

Moreover the uninstall understood that the install dir is mydocs.

I then would think about wrong registry reading from installer/uninstaller

2010/2/14 Stan scc1...@yahoo.com

Installing any program in MyDocs is unconventional, and I recommend
against it. ALL programs in WinXP should be installed in the Program Files
directory. The reason is simple. If a program behaves badly from within the
Program Files directory, it can only damage itself and other programs, which
can be easily downloaded and installed again.

OTOH, if a program behaves badly within My Documents it can do irreparable
damage to important data files, photos, etc.

Please change the install script to default to the Program Files directory.

 Thank you again,

 Stan

- When NAT and port 80/443 are available ( no http Proxy ) I guess ICE and
TURN makes the difference ( only STUN in Ekiga for the moment it seems )
 - So you might have a Symmetric Nat or a multiple NAT ?

- When only a http proxy is detected , Google can be used as a relay through
a tunnel which can also be used by other client than google talk , such as
empathy.

All this apply to XMPP signaling.

Sorry but this page

What is the problem with the current cms

I agree with you. The problem is that we are still in the middle of
transition having started long ago. www.ekiga.org is more beautiful and
only one person can change it (so secure), but nearly all the pages are
obsolete, while wiki.ekiga.org has practically all the information (and is
community-based). Someone proposed to change mediawiki in drupal (in the
wiki site) and integrate www.ekiga.org web site too. That would finish
the transition and all the problems.
Of course, you are free to comment on the wiki web site too :o)

I just wanted someone to download the latest ekigaWin32 and point him to
ekiga.org .

But the only downlodable think on the website are the sources for each 3.2.X
release .

Ekiga is a great software but the website is really important as people
won't look furtther to find it .

there i only one admin access ? Why not share it so at least a current
release for each platform is on the website ?

Or link the download to the wiki page

2009-05-17 Thread michel memeteau
Dotan , your remarks are really appreciated and shared IMO. Ekiga website is
still too scary for the basic tardeted audience, a few minor changes can
make it even easier than Skype/MSN/otherShit.

But :

I really don't understand why anyone would want to submit to Skype, seeing
how they're more expensive than their competitors in many countries, and
cannot even provide connections to the real telephony networks in many

customers from choosing other service providers.

It's really simple :

From skype website , you're just 3 clicks away from VideoCalling your friend
, whatever his x86 OS is ( almost ).

90% skype users ( 14 Millions ) don't even use the callout service. they
just want to call their friends on their computer and use the webcam. Webcam
is a killer app , we all know this.

In my experience, once people are made aware of these issues, they're not
so hesitant about switching to real internet telephony services which are
 free
and also gives you the freedom of choice.

I hate skype and the system behind it but what you say is not true. Usually
, the tehnics and ethics behind a software does not influence people choice.
as long as the software does not cost money , is easy and work well without
any stupid ads or malware, they will use it forever. Look how ubuntu users
wanted ekiga to be removed from defailt ubuntu and be replaced with some
skype shit. that shows how even freeOS users don't care... so Windows
users...

To carry on your thoughts I guess :

- User agent detection to launch the right download as most Websites would
be great. ( at least for windows and mac ( Xmeeting ? ) )

- Static Build for Linux would be great, it's just too complicated to
support the 100 distros. ( I tried to generate a static but failed ..)

I know how skype Works so I'm not surprised , but for VOIPstunt I though
they did classic stun , maybe they added Upnp and ICE.

SO apart from the case where you connecte through a http proxy, When ekiga

[Ekiga-devel-list] [Static build] Anyone for a Static 3.2 ?

2009-04-07 Thread michel memeteau
Hi , sorry if this sound again really as a repeated request.

You could say that I could do this by myself , I would love to but the
answer is that I'm still missing Time and knowledge for doing this.

I'm facing a lot of cases ( family friends ) who have old or unsupported
distro such as mandriva 2007.0 and are still using Ekiga 2.0X .

They have the feeling that their experience is far below what thay could
expect right now iusing H261 and limited framerate.

So my point was to provide them a static build with all dependencies
included, but I guess the version of few externals libs still impact :
Mandriva 2007.0 contains :

gcc-4.1.1-3
ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.com/MandrivaLinux/official/2007.0/i586/media/main/updates/gcc-4.1.1-3.1mdv2007.0.i586.rpm
 glibc-2.4-7
ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.com/MandrivaLinux/official/2007.0/i586/media/main/updates/glibc-2.4-7mdv2007.0.i586.rpm

My first try with an install of mdva 2009.0 with statified just
coredumped on 2007.0

1- Do you think a static build of a gtkonly variant of ekiga 3.2 would
work in that case ?
2- Is there anyone that build successfully ekiga-gtkonly 3.2 on
Whatever distro could give a try to a static build ?

Cheers.

A yealink USB-B2K then. I still have one ( a Wengobox ) to sell if
anyone interested.

Is that a separate library? Configure argument? I have DirectShow

There is probably a reason why it does not load in that case. Probably a
 compilation flag.

I confirm we had an extensive testing of the Win32 version from Michael 3.02
( great work BTW ! ) and my ov511 worked only in WDM mode , No DirectX
listed , but the previous Mathias ones showed only Directx. Maybe it's a
problem to compile both ?

With michael 3.02 WDM version I couldn't achieve more than 10 fps and 30 in
directX mode with previous version.

Does it comes from the driver and capture method ? and can it be something
 else in PTlib ?

This leads to think that it's a Cone NAT instead of a symmetric as I thought
( Port restricted in both cases if I'm right ) . Stun can traverse Cone NAT
so it should always work

Also, the presence does not work reliably, it seems that the freebox simply
drops some packets (!!??) Moreover, if I call 520, I do not receive the

In non Router Mode (Bridge) , you only have one machine with the Public IP
addresse then everything works without any stun needed.

All freebox have a second SSID freephonie.net which allow only SIP traffic
to the SIP free.fr server. although it's on a seperate network, maybe the
iptables rules catch some packets from the local LAN network ?

We should ask this question on freephonie.org

[Ekiga-list] Status of Echo test ?

2008-12-22 Thread michel memeteau
Hi All , With the great work from the Ekiga team the Echo test in H264 is
really great , I tested it on Ekiga3 Windows , and it really makes a
difference when you want to show the quality ( even stuff like skype don't
have this option )

However , I frequently have to set up some mac or Windows machine and finish
with Xlite or some other limited software in order to keep on using SIP (
and not let people fall on the tentation of using skype ...) , and in order
to test their setup , I was looking for an echo test who support either H263
or H263-98 as Xlite does not support either H261 nor H264 for some
ridiculous reasons

Do you know any ? or how is this difficult to make ekiga * works with those
two codecs ? thanks

[Ekiga-list] Sip with new firmware on french LiveBox

Hi , this message i more towards the LiveBox users in france.

I 've read that since last august, Orange ADSL now use SIP for its VOIP, and
this conflict with using a SIP client behind a LiveBOx

http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?p=608205#608205

Can anyone confirm this ? this is a common problems when ISP use SIP and
don't care that their clients won't be able to use it with the modem
supplied.

This would make sense for orange who wants to be sure that you will use
their voip and not some voipbuster

Buy a traditional telephone that has a micophone and speaker jack plug.
I plug it to my notebook so when I use ekiga the audio jack plug is

microphone and one for speaker, each with 3 contacts). I am worrying
maybe having a compatible device is difficult, then I need to buy a
splitter to convert my 4-contact jack socket to two 3-contact jack
 sockets.

 Idea B:
Buy a USB telephone that act as audio playback and audio capture device

We are currently in the process to switch the softwares used for the
ekiga.net service. Before the real switch, we need some people to test
it.

To use the improved service, you just need to configure ekiga 3.0 to use
an inbound proxy (in Edit - Preferences - SIP Settings - Outbound
Proxy): set it as ekiga.net:6060. The rest is just similar to the
current use of ekiga.net

Hi , just saw the Windows beta has been updated.

After trugglilng with different software ( Xlite , qutecom ) in order to
make my grand mother to use a webcam and Sip , I have to admit : Ekiga will
become the easiest most popular SIp vidéo software on Windows as well .
Xlite is to complexe , all other software have a technical problem etc ...

Anyway right now , I can't retrive the last Build that has been posted on
ekiga.org :

http://www.ekiga.org/admin/downloads/latest/windows/windows/ekiga-setup-3.0.1beta-7205.exe
, there is a probleme with the server it seems ?

the last one available before was the SVN 7144

I guess by 0041XX, he means the inBound VOIP Number he had with FreeCall .
it then should be displayed to the called with any SIP client ot they did

Runing Ekiga from the commandline should tell you badNatType if you

Both end won't show distant audio/video ?

until they realize the money they could withdraw from this market.

I think the quickest way to get ekiga to MacOSX for those that want it
is via a gtk/gstreamer version of it when ekiga can finally make use
 of gstreamer.

I m no expert but porting Xmeeting to new opal , and add roster seems
quicker isn't it ?

Other idea : use Sip libpurle handler in adium to launch Xmeeting
window when necessary.

Xlite is the only solution right now for roster , it's a pity though

[Ekiga-devel-list] Minor Suggestions

2008-08-16 Thread michel memeteau
Hi , here are few questions suggestions about 3.0 GUI :

New account manager is great but : When adding an Ekiga.net account
the link for creation should Go directly to
http://www.ekiga.net/user/reg/

IMO : find contact Add contact should have dedicated Bouton shortcut
always Visible .

Dynamic boutons when a Buddy was selected ( Call , IM ) Was great ,
right click should be avoid at most I think.

Some Values such as the stun server cannot be modify through the
preferences window anymore , it's no blocker but maybe an advanced
chez box wouldshow more options like in VLC ?

Anyway thanks to anybody that worked on this 3.0 , the UI is simple
great , the Software is terribly fast functionnal. .
