[Elecraft] [For Sale] KAT2 + KBT2 + K2 cover with speaker
I've decided to leave my K2 as a K2/100 and order a KAT100-1 to set it on. So if anyone is thinking about adding the KAT2 or KBT2 to their K2 I am selling my old cover. It has the KAT2 auto-tuner and the KBT2 internal battery option installed. The KBT2 is less than 3 months old. I'm asking $150 plus shipping. PayPal accepted. 73 de Tom K2TA K2/100 #1117 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] KSB2 firmware versions
I have version 1.02 of the KSB2 firmware installed in my K2/100. I have no intention of adding the K60XV. What changes have been made between 1.02 and 1.08? I see mention that 1.04 added support for the KPA-100. I wonder what problems the KPA-100 has when used with version 1.02 of the KSB2 software? Should I upgrade the KSB2 firmware? Re: [Elecraft] PLL Reference Oscillator Range Solved
In a message dated 31/12/04 04:52:04 GMT Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Now to find out why the BFO range is too low. The BFO high frequency comes in above the expected minimum of =4916.3 at 4918.2 The BFO low frequency comes in above the expected maximum of =4912.7 at 4914.8 with a resulting range of 3.4 compared to the expected minimum range of =3.6. D37 and D38 are of correct values as are X3 and X4 From the schematic the usual suspects would be L33, X3, X4, D37, D38, C173, C174 and posssibly C169 with the gate circuit of Q24. However first a check on the of voltage range on the V BFO rail at U10D-14 on the K2 Control Board may be helpful. According to the K2 manual this should range between 0 to 8V and with varicap diodes the maximum capacity which would determine the lowest frequency of the BFO is with minimum applied voltage. If the voltage does not swing low enough this would inhibit the ability of the BFO to reach it's minimum frequency. The crystals may be a bad batch which may occasionally happen pushing the frequency in this case too high. The varicap diodes D37/38 type 1SV149 can be damaged by excessive heat during installation. When checked on a capacitance meter recently a new diode came out at about 890pF. One that had been fried that I tested was nearer 820pF. Are the capacitors noted the correct values, place correctly and soldered? Bob, G3VVT ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Should I use another procedure besides those posted? Comments? Chuck - n6dbt Hi Chuck, As one who did the alignment more times than I care to remember, I can strongly recommend Toms newest set of alignment info. I nailed my rigs filters with it (using my $25 hamfest laptop running Sprectrogram) and have enjoyed my K2 operating at top performance ever since. Doing it will also give you a good understanding of the filtering process, since you see it real time graphically. Here's two thumbs up for Toms method! Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply, you are the only one to date who has reported that they have tried this test. Now I know that it is not just my setup. Since my original mail I have found that this anomaly only occurs when on transmit, and is independent of whether RF is being generated or not. It is also strange, because turning the power control ACW switches the LEDS from HIGH to LOW, but after that, turning the power control CW does not change the LEDS. I know that the KPA100 switches correctly depending on the power control setting on both transmit and receive, so why doesn't the KAT100 ? It is only by rotating the power control whilst on receive or switching the rig on/off that the LEDS indicate correctly. I quite often vary my power during a transmission to get signal reports on different station configurations e.g speech processing, antennas, microphones, etc. This does not really effect my station operation, but is a minor irritant in that I cannot rely on the LEDS always showing the correct status of my K2/100 power out, as the manual says that they should. I will probably disconnect the LEDS, as at present they are rather confusing. 73 Stewart G3RXQ __ ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Max DC supply voltage for KX-1
Is the KX-1 capable of operating from twelve NiMh cells (~16-17V at full charge?) without being damaged? Interested in using it self contained (six AA NiMh cells) or with additional supply voltage (more cells) added externally and wired in series with the internal cells, and wonder what the limit would be. 73 Dave WB0GAZ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Max DC supply voltage for KX-1
One idea I have been working on is using the flat 10 AA holder from Mouser, which can be rubber-banded or Velcro'd to the bottom of the KX1. I got a few of them at $2 each. The 2x5 holders fit into my waist pack, but are unwieldy in use. If I can figure out a way to carry the 10x1 holder in the waist pack I will switch to it. Re: [Elecraft] K1 - Problem
Thank you Jim - I'll also post this to the group as well just to keep them informed about where I'm at with testing. IF I can't get this thing aligned completely, I may have to resort to bothering you with it next year when I get back to Mobile. I did the following tests and re-checked the transmitter offset adjustment again. That didn't seem to change much of anything. As the two tones came together, there was kind of a waver in the sound. when I continued to move past that point, the waver would disappear, then appear again. I then moved the adjustment between those two points. Is that correct? a problem with the 30 Meter HetrodyeOscillator Crystal. It sounds like it is not oscillating. If you have a general coverage receiver you can tune to the freq of the crystal and see you can hear it. I tuned my 756Pro with CW filter set to 100hz with a coax jumper connected to the antenna SO-239. With the K1-4 just turned on, no antenna connected and in receive mode with other end of coax held close to J6, pin #4 I get: 40 meter band = 15,003.96Mhz with a nice tone (15.00 Crystal?) 30 meter band = 18,097.78 Mhz with a nice tone (18.100 Crystal?) 20 meter band = 21.996.83Mhz with a nice tone (22.00 Crystal?) 40 meter band = 26,046.64Mhz with a nice tone (26.05 Crystal?) The 30 meter signal was as strong as the other bands, but I am surprised at the offset from the stated filter freq. OR is this normal and why we must do the Freq offset calibration for each band? Now when I transmit with the K1-4 into a dummy load (an old Health Cantenna) and tune in the signal on the 756Pro, I get the following: K1 transmits at 7040.0 = 756Pro receives at 7040.67 (K1 receives same freq 756Pro transmits) K1 transmits at 10,130.0 = 756Pro receives at 10,130.00 (but K1 receives 600 hz off.) K1 transmits at 14,030.0 = 756Pro receives at 14,030.63 (K1 receives same freq 756Pro transmits) K1 transmits at 18,090.0 = 756Pro receives at 18,090.62 (K1 receives same freq 756Pro transmits) On 30 meters the K1-4 only transmits in the milliwatt range too small to see on my wattmeter. The K1-4 seems to receive pretty good on 30 meters when connected to outside antenna. A weak signal on the 756Pro is still received on the K1-4, but a bit weaker. It the signal is received on the 756Pro at 10,30.00, the K1-4 will receive it about 10,130.6. It really seems like the K1-4 is receiving ok on 30 meters, just no power output. I also re-melted solder on all the L1-L2-L3 inductor wires and the capacitors around it. I counted the number of turns on each of the inductors to be sure it was correct and checked the spacing around the torrid core. [Elecraft] K2 Frequency Counter Probe Storage INSIDE the K2
New Year's Greetings from mid-Missouri... where it's 65 degrees F with no snow in sight! Not your 'typical Missouri New Year's Eve', that's for sure. As a New Year gift (hopefully) to some of you, I just uploaded to my web site at www.n0ss.net a PDF containing information describing how I succeeded in storing the K2 FCTR probe INSIDE the K2 without having to leave it plugged into any of the TPx test points, as Wayne and Eric have warned us against doing. The installation procedure takes a lot less time than it took for me to write the 2-page documentation. The file is about 812kB in size, so PLEASE DOWNLOAD IT to your hard drive instead of trying to read it on-line. Once at my web site, drop down to the K2 RELATED FILES section, about 3/4 of the way down the page. The file you're looking for is titled K2 Frequency Counter Probe Storage INSIDE the K2. I hope some finds this useful... WAY too many of us get caught at least once, usually much more often, out somewhere without our FCTR probe. 73 and Happy New Year...! Tom Hammond N0SS P.S. [Elecraft] 80 meter ECN
Good Evening and Happy New Year! My white paper is coming along quite nicely. Another ten pages or so and it will be ready. This will free me up to finish my 80 meter loop. If the snow stops it will be great weather for antenna raising. And kneeling at the foundation to snake muddy ladder line :) The fir trees are drooping drastically though so I expect sleeping will prove difficult if the snow keeps sloughing off the 100 foot trees over our house. The boughs make quite a racket as they crash into the roof. But luckily last year's heavy snowfall has removed the weakest ones so none should go through the roof. When I get the loop up and running we can plan an 80 meter Elecraft CW Net. We need to find a good time and day as well as a frequency on 80 m which does not interfere with pre-existing nets. I only know about the traffic nets since that is the only reason I've ever used 80 meters before. Thus I'll need an experienced opinion or two. But amateur radio operators do not have opinions do they? Take care and 73, Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class) -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Re: [Elecraft] Question about KNB2 Noise Blanker (Gain reductioninNB2 posit...
Hi Don, I agree, but as Mike, KK5F, pointed out, and I also noticed with my old TS-830S and TS-140S, when using the same receive only phased loops both of those rigs work fine at that low level and the K2, even with K2 preamp on, doesn't. It would be a better idea to put more gain in series with the NB pulse amp and put a nb level control on it so it will work as well as the antique gear. I have dxcc on 160m from a city lot and noise blankers are a big thing in my life. Hi. Aloha, .Bryce, kh6at - Original Message - From: W3FPR - Don Wilhelm [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Bryce A. Bryce, Certainly, when the noise pulse is not strong enough to reach the gating threshold, no blanking will occur. The solution is to add a preamplifier. In some cases it will be sufficient to just turn on the preamplifier in the K2, it does depend on the Rx antenna output level. Any gated noise blanker will have similar behavior, it is not unique to the K2 implementation. 73, Don W3FPR - Original Message - Amen! The K2 NB is particularly poor when using low level rx only ants as noise pulses are heard in audio, but are not adequate strength to trigger the blanking mv.
