[Elecraft] Polar Bear Moonlight Madness!
Hello, This is Ed, WA3WSJ Polar Bear #1. Here's a status report on the Polar bear certificates for November. I have designed a new Polar Bear Certificate. I will begin printing them out in a week or so. So if you were an active Polar Bear in November or you bagged a bear, send your log to me via email. To all who sent me your logs, I have them in the computer. Also, K5PAX won the Polar Bear Claw. I tried to have it engraved, but no one wanted to engrave it. So I bought an engraving tip for my Dremel Tool and I will try to engrave it myself - after much practice- hi! As always, I will hand out a gift to the first operator who contacts WA3WSJ. The December Polar Bear Moonlight Madness Event is scheduled for December 17th and it's a Full Cold Moon. This month the gift again will be an engraved replica of a polar bear claw. It's a nice looking claw that you could put a chain through and wear on around your neck. It's also is a great letter opener too. Image the looks on your friends face when you tell them it's a polar bear claw! Just leave out the replica part. Remember these questions: 1. What color is the hair of a polar bear? ---Transparent 2. What color is the skin of a polar bear?Black 3. How does a polar bear stay so warm in the cold?Hollow hair that transfers heat to the skin and blubber. Hair- A dense, thick undercoat of fur is protected by an outer coat of long guard hairs that stick together when wet, forming a waterproof barrier to keep them dry. Even though polar bears look white, their hair is really made of clear, hollow tubes filled with air. Blubber- Blubber helps insulate polar bears from the freezing air and cold water, and acts as a nutritional reserve when food can't be found. This blubber also helps the bears float in the water. It is 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters) thick. 4. What is the technical name of the polar bear?-- Ursus maritimus, which means 'Sea Bear' in the Greek language. 5. How long does a wild polar bear live?-- 25 to 30 years in the wild, up to 45 years in zoos 6. How long do the cubs stay with mother?- ~ 2yrs. 7. How far away can a polar bear on ice smell a seal?- 20 miles 8. What is the average weight of a polar bear at birth?- ~ 1lb. 9. What two attributes are missing on a cub at birth?- Blind/hairless 10. Milk from a polar bear mother is what percent fat?- 35% Hope to work many for our next Polar Bear Event in December. Yes, the weather out there feels like Polar Bear Weather! 72, Ed, WA3WSJ Polar Bear #1 72, Ed, WA3WSJ ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] T1 Kit
I finally got around to building this fine productone evening and a few hours in the AM to trouble shoot and it works fineeven loads up my 80 Meter Carolina Windom on 160 and 6 Meters. Ft 817 cable is a hootas easy to tune as my K2 ! I had this thing since March and just got going on it. The relays are nifty and so error proof to install compared to those on the K2. Must be one half the size of the K2 relays. OK Wayne and Eric Winter is here in the Midwest and weekends are miserableWe need more KITS !...Please. 73's W8HQ __ Yahoo! [Elecraft] 1 antenna, 2 radios... a second prototype !
Hi, I did my second «One Antenna, Two Radios» interface. I had this time an ajustable RF amplifier to compensate for the loss by splitting the signal. I only had what is loss... around 3 dB, no more. The design could be used for more than 2 input/output because the gain is «ajustable». I also had a few LED to show the status when TX, ON or even when the rf amp is ON. If I disconnect one radio, I am able to switch off the amp because there is no more attenuation, so I will keep my signal a «original» as it were before. I really think that I convinced that I can easely add another K2 in my shack the next step will be... One mic, two radios... and two K2's !!! If you want to take a look... http://homepage.mac.com/jfmenard/PhotoAlbum57.html It took me more hours than expected... I like to do thing properly... maybe sometime too much, but anyway... it works great !!! 73 = /¯\/¯\/¯\/¯\/¯\/¯\ JEAN-FRANCOIS MENARD V A 2 V Y Z \_/\_/\_/\_/\_/\_/ FISTS #11896 Elecraft K2 #4130 Elecraft KX1 #999 http://homepage.mac.com/jfmenard = ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] FS: Built KX-1 (Repost with reduced price)
Hi, I have got a built Elecraft KX-1 with full acessories (20, 30, 40 m + ATU + Paddle), which was built by Ruchan Ozatay (TA2AH), plus the nifty manual. I would like to sell the built rig (plus all manuals, etc.) because I have bought an Elecraft K2, again from TA2AH, after the KX1. (He has built himself a K-1 after that.) The KX1 is in excellent condition because it was used for a very short period of time. I would like to sell the built KX-1 for US$ 400 + shipping. Alternatively, I am willing to swap it with an assembled KPA100 kit. Please let me know if you are interested. 73! [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, Another week of snow and digging. We have had at least a foot of snow since last week. I am not sure because that is not high on my priority list. We did measure the first 8 inches but have lost track due to digging out vehicles and carrying wood into the house. However, the area is much quieter than it was. The RF is a bit muffled until the antennas shed their 4 inches plus coverings of snow. This morning we had a six inch branch break out of the tree over our house and bring a few of its friends along with it. Luckily that landed on our newly built deck. The snow covering breaks the fall a bit but the crashing sounds are unnerving ;) When the tree sheds its snow it becomes hard to sleep at night. But I am loathe to cut it down since it is one of the oldest trees remaining on our mountain. It would be like cutting down an old friend; though at 50 at breast height it would heat the house for quite some time. The next house we build on this property will not be under the trees! If the bands are good tomorrow evening I hope to hear a few of you. Never can tell what propagation will do but we all may get lucky. Tom (N0SS) is off visiting his grandkids so we won't have him in the middle of the country. Just me and my signal. [Elecraft] Many thanks to Tom-N0SS!!! External Amp Keying mod a success!
Hey there everyone, I wanted to be able to add an external keying line to my K2 to drive an external amp that did not already have a T-R keying line (one of those RF sense only types). Tom-N0SS helped me accomplish just that. He made a PC board for such a circuit and gave me much advice on how and where to hook into my amp. Tom was a real champ and the project worked out perfectly. He is just one of the great examples of the fine folks on this Elecraft list who help us get things accomplished with our K2 rigs. Tom, you’re the best! So, kudos to Tom-N0SS, for being such a great help. He has a really great website at http://www.N0SS.net . Highly recommend it. The link for the external amp keying project is http://www.n0ss.net/l2_basic_8r_line_t-r_adapter.pdf . 73, Bill - WA5PB -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
