Re: [Elecraft] PSK-D Feature request
The issue isn't varicode. The issue is that PSK modes are Phase Shift, not Frequency Shift (FSK). The radio would have to read raw data coming in, re-encode it, and modulate it. It isn't that different from CW-to-PSK conversion, but I wonder if it's worth the trouble. -- Lynn On 1/1/2014 7:15 PM, Jim Sheldon wrote: The Vari-code aspect of the various PSK modes makes this impossible as it's currently implemented. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Guys, John Subich was right. Asserting PTT keys the radio and brings up the PSK idle, but there is no data transfer via the FSK input pin in PSK- D mode. John I haven't tried it yet since I just discovered it. The FSK pin on the AUX connector when in PSK-D mode does what is needed. [Elecraft] SKN sans Elecraft
For the first time since drinking the Kool-Aid years ago, I made it all the way through SKN without touching an Elecraft radio! Nothing but my HW-16 and Heathkit CW twins was used, though I did have to use the AF1 to help the old girls out. Nothing makes you appreciate your K3, KX3, K2, K1, or KX1 like vacuum tubes. 73 Eric WD6DBM Sent from Yahoo! It's a totally different protocol/code ... RTTY/FSK is an on/off keying signal while PSK31 is a variable length code that no UART is programmed to generate. If you don't want to use a sound card for PSK31, use the terminal in the K3 Utility program. 73, ... [Elecraft] K3 audio line out level with blue tooth hearing aid amp
Happy New Year to all. I just got new ReSound hearing aids w/ a blue tooth amp pickup. I connected the blue tooth transmitter to the front panel PHONES and got plenty of sound but very distorted at levels necessary for operating. I then connected it to the LINE OUT in the back of the K3 and switched that output level from fixed to PHONES. The audio level for signals is almost too low to hear at any level of AF/RF gain, but the beep level for radio control is very loud. How do I get the signal output from the LINE OUT jack up to a useable level? Any thoughts as to why the audio from the front panel PHONES is so distorted? Is this a radio issue or something to do with the blue tooth transmitter and the hearing aids? Thanks for any and all comments. ...robert -- Robert G Strickland, PhD ABPH - KE2WY rc...@verizon.net.usa Syracuse, New York, USA __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

This would allow me to see if there is any effect on waveform from the amp compared to the transmitter output as well. Some sort of attenuator is needed to protect the 'scope but also to make sure it doesn't change the impedance the amp or tuner sees. I understand the Bird wattmeters have such a "sniffer" circuit. Re: [Elecraft] Station Monitor
There's an article in this months QST that might do what you are looking for, it's in Technical Correspondence on pages 58 and 59 headed "Use a Signal Sampler to Monitor Your Transmitted Signals" written by Larry D. Wolfgang (WR1B). The designer is given, at the end of the article, as being Bud Colclough (K1LC). There's an address and an email address for K1LC given at the end of the article as well. Basically, it looks like a VSWR meter but with an output to a 50 ohm BNC connector in place of the more usual meter. 50 ohm microstripline joins an input and an output socket, half way down the stripline is a tap off via a capacitor to a resistive divider circuit (with decoupling capacitor) to an output socket giving a -60dB output on the frequency being monitored. The designer says that he's tesed his circuit up to 600W and believes that it could handle full legal (in the USA) power from 1.8MHz to 30MHz. Might be worth a look. I have a K3 (7588) but also an ICOM 7200, Drake TR7A, Drake C-line & a couple of amps. I have a 70MHz occilliscope that I would like to place between amp & feed line to various antennas. I want to make sure my CW & SSB output is clean without clicks or splatter, especially at higher output. I also understand the 'scope alone may not be sufficient for such a "station monitor". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and flrig operation
Mooneer, I don't know if you got an answer or not, but I just verified that on RTTY, there is an occasional delay between the SLUSB keying and the radio keying. It's not there all the time and I did not get it to delay on PSK31 (I only tested RTTY and PSK31). I have a couple of 's built into my macros so that helps some. I know I worked with you privately on this, but I was testing with my K3. I should have tested with the KX3. Doing some other testing, I thought I'd see what it's like for me. I see the slight delay. Sometimes, it seems to be as much as half a second or so. This is using my 2012 iMac with OSX 10.9.1. However, my TX and RX LED's on the USB adapter do not stop talking. I'm using the KX3-to-DB9 adapter and connecting it to my K3-to-USB adapter. The K3-to-USB adapter has the TX and RX LED's. As far as I know, I have the latest drivers for that adapter. Here is my macro for checking into the Alabama Emergency Net: de W4JBB W4JBB, Joel in Tuscaloosa County. After the initial , there are three carriage returns. the DLY on the SLUSB is set to fully CCW. I'm also cross-posting into the linuxham group to see if anyone there has any ideas. 73, Joel - W4JBB On 12/29/13, 9:11 PM, Mooneer Salem wrote: Hi all, I recently upgraded to a 13" retina MacBook Pro and am trying to set up fldigi and flrig. However, occasionally when I flip fldigi into transmit mode to respond to someone, the KX3 takes a bit of time before it finally starts transmitting. As a result, a large amount of the text being sent gets cut off. One thing I did notice is that the red and green LEDs inside the KX3's USB cable constantly light up when flrig is in the foreground. After ten or so seconds with flrig in the background, those lights stop working. Could my laptop and/or flrig be putting the USB port to sleep? How do I get it to not do that? [Elecraft] Newbie Dave & Happy New Year Elecraft KX3 WOW moment!
Hi folks, Newbie Dave, K6WDE, here with my KX3 WOW moment. Late yesterday afternoon, New Year’s Eve, I spotted and heard KC4AAA broadcasting on 20 meters from the AMUNDSEN-SCOTT SOUTH POLE STATION. Obviously, there was a hugh pile-up for quite some time. I listened and listened. There were lots of big guns repeatedly calling to/over him and others. Some folks got through. This South Pole operator’s patience was truly amazing. He was cool and collective and took his time to work those that got through. He was a total professional in my book moving quickly through the pile up. I tried calling, but with the big guns, there was no joy. After dinner, I tuned in again and he had decided to move to calling by the numbers. He worked the 4s, 5s and finally 6s. Throwing out my call sign, imagine my surprise when he answered back with a 55 signal report. I informed him of my QRP station and we exchanged 73s and Happy New Year greetings. I was the last 6 he picked up before he moved onto the 7s. Other comments from operators stated they had waited for 2 hours plus to make the QSO. I have owned my KX3, serial number 4599, since June of 2013. My setup is simple, my KX3 and a switchable LNR vertical/inverted-L 66’ EFHW and a horizontal 51’ long wire with a 9:1 Balun Design UNUN. I picked up the SP on the horizontal. I am fortunate, I do live at 6,200 feet on a ridge overlooking the SoCal inland empire. My Elecraft is the one and only HF rig I own. Elecraft equipment rocks, one happy newbie customer and HF operator here! Re: [Elecraft] OT: 2 port 50 ohm RX splitters ---TNX
I would note that if you intend to use combiners with signal generators for intermodulation measurements care has to be taken with core selection if high performance amplifiers are to be evaluated. After a great deal of experimentation, the limit of my 2nd and 3rd order IMD measurement capability is > +100 dBm (2nd order) and > +55 dBm (3rd order) but that required evaluating a half dozen or more 3 dB combiners and quite a few other components as well. The best of my Norton amplifiers press against these limits. Some discussion and measured data for various 3 and 6 dB combiners at my web site: http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/6_db_hybrid_combiner.htm http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/Documents/Notes%20on%20Building%20a%20Z10050A.pdf I've modified my test equipment setup since the first page link was written - presently use a pair of HP 8657A signal generators and an HP 8568B spectrum analyzer. But the ZHL-3A amplifiers remain in use and are essential. Re: [Elecraft] Shipping a K3
Yes! My mailbox is a half mile from my house. When I checked with the Post Office I was told rural route carriers are only paid to deliver to the mail box. If they bring packages too large for the mail box, to my house, they are doing it on their own. Fortunately, most carriers will bring large parcels to my house. Both UPS and FedX will drive to my house because I also have a large turn-around area. Most of the carriers are always curious about my tower/yagi when they come out. 73, Tom - W4BQF -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Pete Smith N4ZR Sent: Wednesday, January 1, 2014 9:06 AM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Shipping a K3 Hah!
