[Elecraft] HI CUR on 40

2020-10-29 Thread Jim Rhodes
Today I find that I get a HI CUR error when transmitting at just a little
over 50 watts. Switched to a DL and find that on 40 meters my K3 draws more
current at 50 watts than it does on all the other bands. This is with the
tuner bypassed and hooked to one of my old cantennas. SWR shows flat on 40
and all other bands So I am guessing band pass filter issues. Has anyone
else had a similar experience with one band being way out of whack?

Re: [Elecraft] Smoke detectors

2020-10-29 Thread Hank via Elecraft
We switched to wireless alarm connected, internal battery detectors due to the
occasional RFI interference caused by running a little power on 80 meters. Our
alarm company actually had some experience with RFI issues and made the
recommendation. I installed them and have a calendar reminder to swap the
batteries every fall when the time changes.

Local fire code does not require detectors. Insurance folks give us a break on
rates for having them - wired or otherwise here in Ga.

[Elecraft] KIO3B Main Board Repair

2020-10-29 Thread K4PI
I have ended up with 2 bad KI03B boards E850645.  Both bad in the USB
circuit.  I did some basic checks resistance wise they recommended but
found no problems.  Elecraft said chances of repair was slim and would
not be economical to try.  I think all the other functions are okay ie
think they are still working okay if you come in via the serial port.
Seems a shame to toss them into the dumpster  but unless someone has had
some experience of repairing them that may be the route.  Anyone ever
attempted at repair of the USB circuit on these?  73 Mike K4PI

Most RFI to/from ham radio and "devices" is caused by poorly designed
