Hello Bill,

Your friend may contact to Electro Design Corporation which is the import agent
of Elecraft products and providing optional support services in Japanese.
Japanese users who are not confident with their English skill usually buy
Elecraft products through the company.

Re: [Elecraft] Sony MDR-7506 replacement pads?

2020-11-12 Thread john
All of these MDR-7506 posts reminded me that I purchased OEM pads for my
Sony MDR-7506 many months ago but I never installed them. I had some free
time this evening and I was still able to find the ear pads in my "stuff" so
I thought I would give it a try. It was quite easy to remove the original
pads. To install the new ones I started at the top (not the side) and did
not push the material very far into the lip. I worked my way to the bottom
holding the pad lip in place along the sides. When it was completely around
I used a thin machinists scale to push the pad into the groove in areas
where it was not seated properly. It was a little time consuming but not
really difficult and now the headphones look new again. These are my
favorite headphones!

John KK9A

Frank O'Donnell K6FOD:
Is there a secret trick for getting replacement earpads installed
smoothly onto the headphones?

I bought a pair of Sony pads for my MDR-7506, but try as I might, as I
get one side into the groove on the headphone, the other side inevitably
slips out. Beginning to get into the realm of the comical.

Re: [Elecraft] Procedure for setting Bias on K3 LPA FETS

2020-11-12 Thread Scott

Tom,
The procedure below is what I received from Elecraft Tech support back
in July of 2019. It worked for me after changing the LPA FETs in my K3.

73,
Scott AD5HS

===

You'll need this sequence for setting bias after the fix:

*Here is the procedure to check if your LPA module has
been adjusted properly for bias current:*

(current increases approx. 600 ma when XMIT is tapped (below 12W).

1. Remove the 100 watt amplifier (if installed) by disconnecting the fan
panel and their 2 connector wires, and the 2 wires to the circuit
breaker. Use care to not pull on the KPA3 too hard and thus let it fly
off the connectors and cause damage to it or to the chassis. Use gentle
but firm finger pressure, or pry carefully with a plastic tool (such as
the K2 green plastic alignment tool), near the two PCB connectors. This
will usually help the KPA3 start to move.

2. Locate small SMD pots R18, R19 and R24 near the center of the LPA
board. Turn the pots to minimum. (White pots fully CW, Black pots fully
CCW)

3. Turn the power knob down to ZERO.

4. Tap DISP, (display button), use VFO B to display the current drawn by
the radio. For more accurate results, insert a DMM in the positive power
supply lead that is set to a current range that can handle up to 2-3 amps.

5. Hold TEST (the right hand side of the MODE button). This puts the K3
in TEST mode with no RF drive.

6. Tap XMIT. You will see a current of approx 1 to 2A (depending on
options in radio) but the red TX LED will not come on. Adjust R18 to
increase the reading by 0.2A IE 200ma

7. Adjust R19 to increase the current another 0.2A

8. Adjust R24 to increase the current another 0.2A

9. Tap XMIT to exit bias on condition. (Current should drop approx.
600ma). NOTE: if you are just checking current and you do have the KPA3
installed, set it to NOT INST and cycle power so you do not have its
current added, thus confusing your readings.

10. Set Power to 11.9W. Hold TEST again to cancel TEST mode so RF output
is possible. The LCD shows TX NORM.

11. With PWR SET to “nor” Hold TUNE and see how much power you get on
all bands.

[Elecraft] K3 transverter connector question

2020-11-12 Thread Chris Cox

Good day.

I am considering recrystalling my 2m transverter with a 118MHz rock
replacing the existing 116MHz crystal, thereby permitting full two metre
band coverage with a 26-30MHz I/F.

Does the K3 need to be widebanded to enable low-level 26-28MHz RF on the
transverter transmit port or is the low-level output available by default?

May I suggest checking all your PSUs. I had the same issue once and it
turned out to be the PSU running a tuner. I binned the PSU and installed
a tried and tested new one. No more issues.

Subject: [Elecraft] OT question about receiving loop antenna

I have an RF Pro 1b receiving loop antenna which I use for diversity reception
on my K3. It used to be sold by Pixel Technologies, and now it is handled by DX
Engineering. If there is someone else who has this same antenna, please contact
me off list.

My antenna seems to be producing a strong (-50 dBm) spurious signal that starts
around 7400 kHz and drifts down. It is frequency modulated at the line
frequency. I have replaced the preamp and I still have the problem. I am pretty
certain that it is not an external signal, but I would like someone else to
check theirs for the same issue as a sanity check.
