Yes, that would be great. The K3 doesn't do that, unfortunately.
The K2 and my other non-Elecraft rigs don't have the 'presence' that the
K3 gets from the ability to insert a slight delay on one side.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report

2021-12-26 Thread kevin

Good Evening,

Conditions were so-so to OK.  Rapid QSB was on everyone, it chopped
up weaker stations, the stronger ones were better.  More than one
operator mentioned I was the only station on the band.  I did not hear
anything except check ins on either band.  I don't think it was due to
lack of focus.  However, an hour with a chainsaw followed by working
with cold hands did affect my sending.  It took a word or too for my
fingers to lubricate.

During the second check in on the second net I watched a large tree
bend over and then fall over.  It rotated around its root ball like it
was a ball socket.  It fell in one of my antenna paths.  If the antenna
had not already been broken it would have fallen today.  I was also
taking each second as it came because the power kept blinking.  If there
is any wind tonight there will be a power outage.  For some reason this
layer of snow is not sloughing off of the trees.  Power lines don't like
it either.

Re: [Elecraft] KAT 500 Firmware

2021-12-26 Thread Dave New
I had a KAT500 fail to xmit back to the PC, but it could receive, so
only one of the transistors was out.

To determine this, use Putty or other terminal program to send test
commands to the serial port that shows up when you plug in the USB
cable. If you can command the KAT500 to switch antennas, for example,
but you see no return message when you ask for the firmware version,
then you will only need to replace the transistor that drives the
KAT500 to PC line.

73,

-- Dave, N8SBE

Quoting Andy Durbin :

"I had this happen a while back and it turned out the Q! and Q2
(transistors that control the send and receive lines on the com
port) were in operatable."

I would expect that fault to result in the utility not seeing any
data at all. In that condition the utility does not report that
the connected device is not a KAT500 because it can't connect at all.

Please confirm that you saw the message "Unexpected Device -
Connected device does not appear to be an Elecraft KAT500" when the
TX and RX data lines had both failed. In my experience this fault
can only result if the utility is connected to a port that is
receiving data but it's not the data the utility was requesting.

Any *Stereo* headphones can accomplish the same thing by simply adding
a DPDT switch wired to reverse the connections (invert polarity) to
one of the two ears.

Some of the various Heil headphones, including the one on the

simulated stereo by changing the phase between the two sides. It
basically seems to widen the perceived space of the sound source,
possibly helpful.
