Good Morning,

I appreciate the pleasant propagation report you imagined for me.  The critters were a nice touch.  No QRN without QSB sounds like living in RF paradise.  I am consistently amazed at net activity; only once have I called a net to no response. Propagation was terrible on a major holiday.

I have been calling for check ins for nearly 21 years.  The experience has been edifying and instructive.  I have lost track of how many antennas I have used.  They last only a few years due to heavy snow fall or high wind.  From resonant dipoles to doublets to 1/4 wave verticals to an inverted Y which works rather well.

I meet quite a variety of individuals.  Each week I learn a little more about each of you.  After twenty years I have a pretty good idea of who each of you are and your weekly activities.  I stress giving complete signal reports, but I hear many more details about each of your lives, or a quick weather report.  Very rarely we talk about our rigs or antennas.  I think it is enough to know we are both on the air using CW as a mode of communication.

I doubt I am the only person who dreams in CW :)  While I am not a hard core contester I do test my mettle now and then.  In the days following I hear faint CW in any rhythmic sound.  The interesting fact is: once I 'lock in' to an op's rhythm the code part goes away and I am in a conversation with them.  However, if you slow down too much I have to pick up a pencil for decoding purposes.

An interesting aside: many weeks I get more email about my announcements and reports than I do actual check ins.  Some of them are from folks who are called away for one reason or another, but the lion's share is from folks who comment on my writing.  You never can tell what will interest a person :)

Most of all I appreciate the forebearance with which the Elecraft crowd has treated me.

Thank you all for your continuing support.

REPORT I HOPE TO READ BEFORE I DIE.

the headphones down and could still copy everyone. We had 91 checkins, including some DX.
We all reduced our power to 100 mW. A fox nestled at my feet to listen. A bald eagle
landed on the window sill while I called the net. The birds were even chirping CW. It was
a night for the ages. See you all next week."
