[Elecraft] W2 Watt Meter firmware load?

2023-11-14 Thread Glenn Maclean
I recently put my K line station together K3S, KAT500, KPA500, P3. They are all
working great! I have added a brand new W2 watt meter. It came with version
1.0 firmware which from what I understand has not changed in many years and is
the latest version. I was testing my new W2 watt meter and it does not seem to
go into firmware load mode. I hold both the on button and sensor button while
powering the W2 on. I do not get the left blinking light as the manual states.
What am I doing wrong? I would like the firmware load mode to work in the event
I need to reload firmware. I am able to send commands to the W2 with my
computer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Glenn Maclean WA7SPY

Excellent info from both Dick and Andy on this.. thanks!

The two RCA connections are interchangeable. There is just a relay between

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

[Elecraft] Dumb question about KAT-500 Manual

2023-11-14 Thread Andy Durbin
KAT500 Key In and Key Out RCA jacks are linked by a relay contact but connect
to nothing else. It doesn't make any difference which is In and which is Out,
but I agree the documentation should be consistent.

[Elecraft] For Sale: KPA3 100 W internal amp

2023-11-14 Thread K5RHD Randy Diddel

Pulled from a working K3. I am going to use the K3 as a VHF/UHF+ IF with
tansverters and do not use the radio's HF portion. All hardware included.
Installation instructions are on Elecraft's site. The radio's serial number is
4565 for reference. Please email me with any questions. If you have a K3/10 and
have wanted a PA, this is your chance. Asking $700 shipped. PayPal or Venmo is
preferred. Contact me off the list for pictures and payment info.
I also have a KFL3-200 200 hx CW filter from that same radio for $50.00 shipped
if anyone is in need.

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft 80M SSB Net Report

2023-11-14 Thread Dave New, N8SBE

Ed,

Yes, you are correct with your estimates of typical range on 80M. It
does get better in the winter, where lightning noise which can propagate
many hundreds of miles on 80M at night all but disappears.

Yes, a 2nd West Coast net would be nice. I haven't heard anyone step up
yet to host such a net. Frankly, I ended up with this gig, because the
previous net control went MIA (I think he got a job overseas), and I
guess I just took over the reigns. I don't have a monster contest-style
station by any stretch of the imagination, and if someone else with a
better station situation wanted to give it a try, I certainly wouldn't
stand in their way.

Having said that, I can say I appreciate the opportunity to serve in
some capacity, and it has given me good experience as a net control of
an informal net, and I'm sure others would enjoy the experience.

Maybe you'd like to start an AK-local 80M Elecraft SSB Net, to capture
those in your area that are using/running or are interested in working
Elecraft stations on the air?

I'm in southcentral AK so do not expect to ever hear the net which
appears centered on MI (I was K8MWA 1958-1968 in MI).

Late night 80m prop often brings in West Coast stations (W7 and W6) so
that would suggest a couple thousand miles. Normal daytime 80m is
about 400 miles up here.

Also seems as a West Coast 80m net could co-exist with the current
Elecraft 80m SSB Net. Be nice if NC were located in NW (Seattle?) as
that might reach us 1300 miles to the north.

I have checked in the 20m SSB Net in the past with 100w and 3-element
yagi at 50-foot. Building a 1200w linear this winter (might improve
chances??).

I mostly do VHF-SSB or EME but with the great cycle-25 might enjoy what
it brings in!

Re: [Elecraft] KPA 500 Question

2023-11-14 Thread G4GNX
Also, many people forget that the KAT500 works on RX as well as TX and provides
a band-pass filter which changes position across tuning segments.
If you’re using the KAT500 without the Aux cable and the main TX antenna for
RX, as soon as you tune the RX away from the current tuned segment, the RX path
is no longer at optimum.
