...and remote control is working well K4-to-K4 in limited field test,
coming soon to open Beta test. A computer app "VK4" is coming after that.
It's the simplest remote control architecture in the industry - fill in
remote IP address and password on the client side, 1 or 2 port forwards and
specify a password on the server side. It's a game changer. A little more
complicated if the server-side ISP uses CGNAT but manageable by anyone who
has access to a teenage gamer. ;-)

(Entries with (c/o) indicate a 'one and done' station that checked out
during the 1st round)

We had a total of 19 check ins this week (including the NCS). Thanks to
Eric, WB9JNZ, this week that did yeoman's duty to pull in signals that I
couldn't hear clearly or couldn't hear me due to antenna problems at my
QTH. Very nice hearing from everyone tonight. I hope to see all of you
again. The net concluded at 09:57 PM ET.

Conditions were noisy this evening, with an S7 noise floor at my QTH,
and signals were weaker than usual with some QSB, due to recovery from a
recent G4 geomagnetic storm and K index = 8.

We have a really great group of folks checking in, and I encourage
everyone in the Midwest and adjoining areas to try to check in next
week.

As a reminder, if you go to https://netlogger.org at the net starting
time and look for the 80M Elecraft SSB Net, you should see the frequency
we are using that evening, if we must QSY again due to busy frequencies.

Only issue is RF feedback at rear panel 3.5mm jacks. I suspect it's
because the style of switched jacks the industry has used since at least
the '50s are no longer available, so they couldn't bond the shield at

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report

2024-03-24 Thread kevin

Good Evening,

Twenty meters had less QSB than I had expected.  Earlier in the day
the band was roaring with static.  But, by net time, it had calmed down
to more moderate levels.  Forty meters had some fast, light QSB with
less noise.  Weather reports are showing a warming trend, with less
snow.  Between nets I noticed one blossom on a salmon berry stalk.  So
spring is due here too.

Hi Jerry,

I agree that the relatively low TX power output on 20M
originates in the KPA100 module. Did you build that
module and install it yourself? The LPA circuit in the
base K2 seems to operating normally, and your
peaking of the BPF confirms that.

If you have capability to sweep the 20M/30M LPF
section on the KPA100 for insertion loss, that would
provide more insight. However, those LPF sections
are also inline when the KPA100 is nominally
bypassed - it's only the amplifier circuit that is
bypassed. If there was a significant problem in the
LPF on the KPA100, it would have been evident in
your tests on the 10 watt TX power setting.

I would check the ALC indication on each band, but
set the Power control for 100 watts rather than full
clockwise rotation. You could also monitor the
ALC voltage on the Control board as you change
bands to see if for some reason the ALC control
is reducing TX power on 20 meters. There is no
band-dependent circuitry in the ALC system,
but the SWR forward/reverse power detection
circuit on the KPA100 does have a trimmer cap
to balance the bridge. It would be unlikely for
a resonance condition in the bridge to cause
an elevated VRFDET voltage on one band alone,
but I am curious if the ALC system is doing something
odd on 20 meters only.

Mike, K8CN

[Elecraft] P3 For Sale

2024-03-24 Thread Doug Hensley
I've decided to sell my spare P3. Has the latest USB I/O as well as the SVGA
module option. Comes with its full cable set. Condition is as new and it
probably has less than a half-dozen hours on it. So if you are looking for a
sleeper, this P3 is a good pick.

Price is $900 plus shipping plus 5% if you use PP. Much prefer simple check by
USPS. SN right at 4xxx.

QSL if interested. Sometimes I am slow to respond but will go by email time
stamp to be fair.

[Elecraft] Elecraft 80M SSB Net Announcement

2024-03-24 Thread Dave New, N8SBE
Please join us on 3803kHz (NOTE THE NEW FREQUENCY) plus (not minus) QRM
(see the Netlogger discussion, below), 9PM ET Sunday (0100Z Monday).
Note that the net stays on the same local time, when we switch back and
forth to/from Daylight time, so the UTC time changes, but not the local
time.

As daylight persists more into the evening, we may find it more
difficult to conduct the net at its regular time. For the time being,
let's keep it at 9PM ET, as that is getting late on a 'school night' for
a lot of folks, as it is.

Your net control this week will be Dave, N8SBE.

We are in the midst of a G4 geomagnetic storm, and the K index is 8, so
there is a LOT of D layer absorption on the low bands. Hopefully some
of this will dissipate by this evening's net.

The group that meets on 3803 kHz before us has been wrapping up
operations promptly at or before 9PM ET. There is also another group
that normally comes on at 10PM ET, so we need to make sure to wrap up
operations by 10PM ET. If any stations wish to continue past that time,
please QSY to a clear frequency.

If you are a US General class licensee, please ensure that your dial is
accurately calibrated and that your transmitter/amplifier combination is
clean and free of splatter, since we will be operating LSB within 3 kHz
of the lower 80M US General class band edge.

I'm using Netlogger, so if you go to netlogger.org and look for the 80M
Elecraft SSB Net, you will be able to see the exact frequency we've
settled on for the evening. If we find 3803 kHz busy, we will move UP
the band a few kHz, so we can stay in the 80M US General class band.

Hope to see you this evening on the net.
