[Elecraft] [XG3} Experiences and Opinions?
Hi, As I slowly expand my knowledge in homebrewing, I've decided an XG3 should be my next piece of test equipment (after a DMM and a Rigol DS1102E 'scope). My main interest in the XG3 is for receiver alignment and RF tracing. I'd like to know people's opinions and experiences with this generator. [Elecraft] [KNB1] Board Revision Level
I just want to confirm something. The instructions refer to board revision C. Myboard is Rev. Cr. That's not same as C, right? Re: [Elecraft] [K1] No power out
Just an FYI since it's a little hard to find, the RFPROBE kit is on this page http://www.elecraft.com/order_form_parts.htm#K2%20Parts under K2 PARTS AND MOD KITS. [Elecraft] [K1] K1 SN 3142 is alive!
Hi, With superior dexterity, perseverance, dumb luck, and a lot of help from Don W3FPR my K1 is complete and working on 40 and 20 meters. This is my first kit rig, my first QRP rig, and my first CW only rig. When I set out to buy a QRP rig, I looked at everything I could find on the Web. What sold me on the K1 was the owner's manual, the fact that no expensive test equipment was needed, and Elecraft's reputation. The K1 is everything I hoped it would be and more. It's a true pleasure to be able to build something this well designed. And it's made in the USA. As the saying goes, You may not be impressed that I built this radio, but it impresses the hell out of me. 73, Bob KD2UJ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] [K1] No power out
Don, First of all I couldn't have solved this without your help. Thanks very much. Elecraft should be paying you for your services. The symptom was no power out during the band alignment of a 2-band filter board in 9. Alignment and Test, Part II. Here is a recap of what it took to fix this problem: It quickly became obvious that I needed an RF probe. I ordered kit RFPROBE from Elecraft. It arrived here in about 2 days. Almost everything else I did was at the direction of Don W3FPR. The first symptom he attacked was: no voltage on FIL-P1 Pin 6. 1. Peaked the RF voltage on the left side of C3 using L1. 2. Peaked the right side of C3 using L2. 3. Did the same for C8 using L3 and L4. 4. Peaked the voltage at FIL-P1 Pin 6 on both bands. 5. Now I reran all the steps in 7. Alignment and Test, Part I to get the receiver aligned. Still no transmit power. 6. Started Transmitter Signal Tracing as described in Appendix E, Troubleshooting. 7. Everything looked good up to the BPF (bandpass filter) test point where the voltage was zero. 8. Checked Band 2 (20 meters) and it was fine. 9. Pulled the filter board to inspect the solder joints in the Band 1 bandpass filter area. Found a couple that looked iffy. 10. Re-soldered the joints that looked incomplete and reflowed most of the others. 11. Re-installed the filter board and now had 2 Watts out on both bands. I wish the RF probe was included in the K1 kit, but at least it was available for ordering at a reasonable price. Learned a lot. Looking forward to finishing and getting the K1 on the air. 73, Bob KD2UJ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] [K1] No power out
Hi, I'm in Chapter 9, Alignment and Test, Part II. I've done the first set of voltage checks and the values are all good. Now I have moved on to Band 1 Alignment (40 meters). No position of L1, L2, L5 or L6 has any effect. The display continues to show P0.1. (Also tried Band 2 (20 meters) with the same result.) What steps should I take next? [Elecraft] [K1] RF Board Resistance Checks
Hi, I'm up to page 29 in the manual and doing the first resistance checks on the RF board. I have problems with these 4 test points: P1 pin 16 P1 pin 17 U4 pin 6 U4 pin 7 My DMM sometimes shows resistance on these points, then it climbs until it indicates an open. Sometimes it just shows infinity. I've checked for solder bridges, unsoldered pins, etc. Actually took pictures of the top and bottom of the board so I could look at them full-screen on the PC. (The pictures are here: http://www.kd2uj.com/Telegraphy2/default.html) The other 9 test points seem to be OK. The meter is an Equus 3320 Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter. Bought it on Amazon. Can anyone help? Hjalmar Don, Thanks very much. Im sure thats the right answer. It must be, its the one I was hoping for. 73, Bob KD2UJ From: Hjalmar Duklæt [mailto:dukl...@broadpark.no] Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2012 16:07 To: Bob Molloy; elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] [K1] RF Board Resistance Checks I remember when I built my K1. The manual said 1K ohm meaning infinite, or 5ohms meaning 0 ohm or shorted connections. Made me confused. I think as long as it confirms to what the manual says it's ok. 73 de Hal LA4XX K1 #2929 On 12-07-26, Bob Molloy rjmol...@comcast.net mailto:rjmol...@comcast.net wrote: Hi, I'm up to page 29 in the manual and doing the first resistance checks on the RF board.
