Re: [Elecraft] Filtering RFI from LED & flouresence Dimmer Switches

2016-01-25 Thread David Cole
Hi,
I have a series of three articles on RFI, located at:

http://nk7z.net/category/info/mitigation-of-rf-interference/i-have-rfi-series/

the second article down, titled "I have RFI, now what: House Cleaning"
has the some of the correct part numbers for the Fair-Rite corporation
snap on ferrites.

Best is to replace the dimmers though...

[Elecraft] P3 Macro question

2016-01-24 Thread David Cole
Hello group mind,

I have a P3 control question for you all...

It appears to me, that the P3 does not accept macros for itself, via the
trigger launch process which fires off macros to the K3.

Is this assumption on my part correct?

If so, is there a way to trigger the P3 to accept a macro designed for
the P3 itself, using the rear USB connector on the P3?

In essence, I want to be able to control the P3 via it's own macro set
using the USB connector in the rear of the P3 itself. Is this possible?

That is exactly what I am attempting to do here, Hence my question as to
why I am unable to get the P3 to take a macro via the USB port... I
want it on the Genovation keypad, not the P3 case.

[Elecraft] Feature Request for P3

2016-01-24 Thread David Cole
Hello Elecraft,

Would it be possible for Elecraft to add the following feature to the
P3:

Allow P3 macros to be stored and triggered via the USB keyboard port on
the rear of the P3, as is currently being implemented now for the K3
macros.

In essence, I want the P3 to let me fire a P3 macro trigger, (in
addition to a K3 macro triggers), in the same way I now fire K3 macros--
using the USB port on the rear of the P3.

Thanks!

One hint about your Linux Switch, if you use Google Chrome, make sure
you install the 64 bit version of Linux, not the 32 bit version. Google

Re: [Elecraft] Genovation Keypad on teh K3/P3, solved

2016-01-22 Thread David Cole
Hi Fred,

I have no reason to believe it won't work with the KX3, or K3S either, I
just don't have one of the new K3S rigs, so I can't test it... Hence
why I only talk about the K3.

Now if Elecraft would just give me a K3S, I'd be happy to test it... :)

Please do feel free to include the links to the setup. Here is the a
direct link, which should never change.

http://nk7z.net/adding-an-external-keypad-to-the-k3/

I will be updating it often with new macros. I already have most filled
up...

Re: [Elecraft] Genovation Keypad on teh K3/P3, solved

2016-01-22 Thread David Cole
The spreadsheet that comes with the Genovation keypad has keys on it
with the same aspect ratio as the physical keys. This is so one can add
labels. I added color, and labels, then printed and cut the paper to
fit under the keycaps. The keypad comes with a keycap remover, so this
has been a godsend in labeling.

Re: [Elecraft] Genovation Keypad on teh K3/P3, solved

2016-01-22 Thread David Cole
Hi,

It's not that difficult, most of the work is just programming the P3
macros into the P3 as Elecraft instructs you to do. Which was harder to
do than prepping the Genovation, as I used an external keyboard on the
P3.

Once the Keypad is updated, I just enter the triggers one time, hit the
download button on the keypad software, and I am done forever
programming the keypad.

The keypad triggers the P3 to fire its macros, so you just program the
triggers in once, and on the P3 make sure they match. If you want to
change macros, just change the P3 keeping the same trigger. The
triggers are arbitrarily selected. I used 1-z, 1-0, and F1-F12, one for
each key. Then I just program the P3 to fire a macro on the appropriate
trigger.

The trick is in getting the triggers to match, and that is taken care of
by the chart you can download.

The write up makes it look a lot worse than it is because of the detail
level. The entire process took about 3 minutes to prep the Genovation,
and the rest of the time was spent making macros on the P3.

Once the Genovation is programmed I never program it again... All it
does is trigger macros from the P3.

I must say, that after using the external keypad for a few hours on a
pileup it is nice... I almost never touch the K3 anymore.

[Elecraft] Genovation Keypad on teh K3/P3, solved

2016-01-21 Thread David Cole
Hello,
I now have a Genovation CP48USBHID keypad working on my P3/K3 feeding up
to 48 different macros to the K3 at a single button press.

See:
http://nk7z.net/adding-an-external-keypad-to-the-k3/

for the how to, and a download for the patch to the Genovation to allow
it to plug into the P3 and be recognized.

[Elecraft] Who has the Genovation keypad working?

2016-01-03 Thread David Cole
Hi,

I would like to ask a few questions to someone that has the Genovation
pad working on the K3 please...

If you would shoot me a note off list to "dave @ nk7z.net", with a phone
number in it, I would like to call for a short discussion about the
method of getting it to actually trigger the P3.

I have macros programmed into the P3, I have the normal USB keyboard
working into the P3, and it fires macros, but the Genovation keypad
seems to simply not be seen, or more likely I am missing something...

I "believe", I am mapping keys correctly, but I see the P3 makes no
distinction between an Upper Case A, and a lower case a... I suspect I
am viewing things in error at that level, and maybe it is just mapping
key codes... If that is the case, then I need to see how the Genovation
sends info out... Anyway, I should not take much of your time, and I
would greatly appreciate about a 10 minute talk with someone who has it
running. I am sure this is an understanding issue on my part, and I
just need a bit of guidance...

That is what I am looking for... I can deal with the glue to make it
work, all I want to be sure of, (and another person tells me they are
using the Genovation), is that the Genovation will work... The rest is
just glue to make it work... Thanks again Joe!

Re: [Elecraft] K3: External Macro Launcher (Revisited)

2015-12-25 Thread David Cole
Hi Joe,

As always you seem to have penetrated to the heart of my question...
THANK YOU!

As I have neither seen nor owned one of these keypads yet, I assume one
must program each key to emulate a key on a keyboard, separately
first.

So to check my understanding here is a brief overview:

I program the Genovation, using a PC to have a few buttons emulate a few
ASCII keys, and unplug it, and set it aside.

I then use a normal ASCII keyboard, jacked into the USB port of the P3
to program a few macros, using teh same keys as triggers I programmed
into the Genovation.

I then remove the ASCII keyboard, and replace it with the Genovation
keypad, now if I press one of the pre-programmed keys, (and that key
matches a key I have pre-programmed into the P3), the macro associated
with that key will trigger, thus controlling the K3, or P3.

Is that even close to correct? If so I order a Genovation today!

Re: [Elecraft] K3EXREF Ext. Frequency Reference Input

2015-12-21 Thread David Cole
Speaking of using a GPSDO, I have a quick question...

I use a program called SBSpectrum, it shows frequency changes less than
one Hz.

I note that the K3, does frequency correction in small sawtooth steps of
about 1/4 to 1 Hz, across a few seconds of time, repeatedly... It is as
if some threshold is passed and the K3 then instantly jumps to a
corrected frequency, and then the process repeats...

I would like to avoid this, does using a GPSDO avoid this method keeping
the frequency stable?

Re: [Elecraft] OT: B & W antenna

2015-12-09 Thread David Cole
The BED-90 works fairly well on 75 Meters, about 2 S units down from a
dipole, but it has a 1:1 on almost any frequency between 3 MHz., and 30
Mhz., which is fine for me as I am using a KW for MARS work, and we are
on clear frequencies...

I have heard several stories about what it has for a resistor on it, if
anyone knows for sure, I would be most interested.

Re: [Elecraft] New K3SYNA and RTTY

Hi,

I also see big differences between the new and old synths... I did some
very informal graphs of performance using the P3, and a neighbor, very
large reduction in noise for me when he transmits now... They show a
marked difference in the noise.

I also run with no AGC... It makes a major difference in how the data
is copied...

Then just wait for some poor person to transmit on top of the DX, in
error, and look for all the band cops sending UP UP UP, and you can find
the DX frequency as well. :)

Re: [Elecraft] K3S / P3 Pre-Purchase questions

2015-10-05 Thread David Cole
Hi,
Just this morning, I used my P3 to look at the signals answering TX3X,
looking for an expanded view, showing 3 KHz wide, and centered on the UP
frequency. This allows me to fit into the holes where no one is calling
during a pileup... It takes very little time to set this up on the P3.
I can, and probably will, create a bush button for it. Then it will
take 1 second to set up.

[Elecraft] OT: Windows 7 AGC on Input

2015-10-04 Thread David Cole
Hello,

I am trying to solve a slight digital problem, using my K3. I suspect
that Windows 7 has an AGC of some type on it controlling the Line Input
levels.

Can someone verify if this is true, and if so, is there a way to disable
the AGC on input?

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the suggestion, but respectfully, I am not sure I want to
take such a brut force fix for this, as I have many prams set, that are
not at default. Does this reset everything in the radio to factory?

I want to understand what is happening before I make changes...

[Elecraft] K3/P3 issue

2015-10-01 Thread David Cole
Perhaps I missed the answer to this...

My SVGA external monitor shows signals about 1/2 to one S unit lower
than my P3 does on the native screen... What am I missing?

If I use Peak Hold, there is a clear 1/2 to one S-Unit difference in teh
display height...

[Elecraft] K3/SVGA Question

2015-09-30 Thread David Cole
Hello,
I noticed today, that the SVGA display shows one S unit lower than the
normal P3 display...

An example is as follows:

1. I set the P3 to 200 KHz wide.
2. SVGA shows plus/minus 100 KHz, as the P3 does.
3. I turn on peak hold.
4. I have a peak of S9 on the P3, but on the SVGA the peak is S8.

What am I not understanding here?

Re: [Elecraft] What crystal filter do you use the most?

2015-09-28 Thread David Cole
Hi,
I use the 400 Hz filter for CW, and would enjoy a 1 KHz filter I
believe... The 400 is just a touch to narrow for my tastes. It works
well in crowded conditions, and I would not want to get rid of it, but a
1 KHz might get more use...

Re: [Elecraft] IC-756 ProIII & K3S

2015-09-10 Thread David Cole
I have to echo these thoughts... When I purchased my K3, (not S), I A/B
compared both to each other... I was perfectly ready to sell the K3 if
it did not perform a lot better... My goal was the best rig possible on
my budget...

I was going to take a month to do the A/B, as I expected them to be
close, in under a week I put the Pro III up for sale... The K3 is that
much better, period... I have several hams living close, and the K3
simply erases them unless they are with in 10 or 15 KHz, and running a
KW... The Pro III was wiped out when they opened up...

I hear another layer of stations I simply did not hear with the Pro III.
You will not be sorry...

Not sure what other tuners you are using, but my LDG AT1000- PROII, and

Re: [Elecraft] Why K3's are on most DXpeditions

2015-08-21 Thread David Cole
Guy is correct, I have a ham living about 700 feet from me, and when he
opens up with his KW, my old Icom used to die... The K3 does not even
let me know he is on if he is beyond 10 to 20 KHz. Only way I can tell
is a HUGE spike in the P3 at his operating frequency.

I did a very informal set of tests located at

http://nk7z.net/wiki/elecraft-k3-macros/elecraft-k3-xlr-to-radio/elecraft-k3-new-synthesizer/

using the P3, and looking at the new synths, as compared to the old
synths. The screen shots show how very tight the K3 really is when
placed next to a strong signal...

PVRC contest club members have known this very useful fact for quite a

goes to 100% K3 on HF bands for field day so that we can have both CW
and SSB going on the same band. We never hear the other TX on the
band. Not even a little keyed hiss. Just plain NOTHING heard from the
other TX on the band. We do take precaution to minimize coupling
between two antennas on the same band. Don't want to burn anything up.

M/M, M/2, M/S experience in many contests also return like results.

Light, portable, relatively minimal power use, extremely remearkably
clean TX signal, everyone now knows how to use K3's and is familiar
with the front panel. There's always enough K3's available, including
a spare or two just in case. What's not to like.

Not conjecture. Not KoolAid. Heading toward a decade of experiential
proof from pedal to the metal contesting. Stainless steel plain
 indisputable facts.

We're now waiting to see just how close we can get two 3A syn K3's,
K3S, side by side on CW on the same band. That would be the typical
run and S/P two operator K3 complement per band in major multi TX
setups. CQWWDX contests this fall will tell the story.

This is where the improvements are not at all theoretical and have
direct bearing on successful operations. Maybe doesn't apply to the
ham who only uses the radio to talk to Uncle Elmer on 75m at 10 pm on
75m SSB. Crush it to the wall WFO contest operators are another story.
Like NASCAR drivers doing things to tires Aunt Matilda would never do

Re: [Elecraft] Rig Insurance

2015-08-08 Thread David Cole
I tend to agree with Steve here... My insurance agent said almost the
same thing... Don't call in your home owners unless you really need
too...

Also, given that I believe the ARRL insurance seems to cover stupidity,
(you spill water in your rig it pays off), the fee is not all that
bad.

I had a rider on my home owners policy for a rather expensive telescope
I once owned a few decades ago, and the cost was about the same, it was
also a stupidity coverage type of policy. So given that the policy just
pays off for almost anything, I would expect it to be higher than
normal. I will be getting ARRL insurance for my rig.

If you have a claim on your ham radio equipment it would be against your

affected by more than one claim. We strongly suggest you buy the ARRL
insurance. Which I have done. Did you know the ARRL insurance (last
checked 2014 before the new company took over) will cover everything and
anything related to ham radio? You can insure coax, antennas, towers,
connectors, rigs, computers, all accessories even concrete, radials and
grounding. So if you want to insure the whole thing you can. If you get hit
by lightening and it ruins your tower, antenna, concrete, grounding, rig,
computer and anything else you only pay $50 per incident of not repairable.
Even if it was $50 per item that is still a large savings. I believe it is
well worth it. My 2 cents worth.

Re: [Elecraft] I wonder how many folks have had buyers remorse on a K3/K3S purchase?

2015-08-03 Thread David Cole
Jerry,

I don't regret selling my 756 PRO III, and replacing it with the K3 one
bit!

The K3 is a much more versatile rig. Not as pretty as the old Pro III,
(not as large either, which is a plus), but I don't really care about
pretty, I care about performance, and I have an entire new layer of
stations I hear now, that I did not with the Pro III...

Also, there are so many ways to configure the radio you will be able to
configure it for what ever your needs are... Here is a few examples...

The K3 allows for setting the TUNE output level. I have an auto tuner.
That tuner needs less than 100 watts to trigger autotune. I have an
ALS-1306 amp, I set the TUNE level on the K3 to be 3 watts. That 3
watts drives the tuner via the ALS-1306 Amp with enough power from the
ALS-1306 to force the tuner into retune mode if above 1.7:1. Thus I get
the equivalent of a tuner connected to the radio TUNE button, and do so
without any extra cables... Single button tuning of the AMP, and the
tuner, all in under 10 seconds.

Most settings are per band, so I configure things, for each band, and
mode, and when I return the configurations return for each band/mode...

I thought the P3 was just a frill, it is not... I removed it for a bit
to test some radio control hardware I am working on, and almost lost my
mind without it, I did not have a picture of the band in my head anymore
without the P3...

So, no, I never looked back after selling the Pro III. Prior to the
change over for me, I sat both rigs on the desk, and A/B compared them
for a week, using the exact same antennas, before I sold the Pro III, I
had expected to test for a month to make my decision, it took only a
week to decide.

I was ready and willing to sell the K3 if it was not significantly
better, I have the K3, and not the Icom now!

I have a ham 700 feet away from me, and when he runs his K3 and his KW
Henry amp, I can't tell he is on if I am 20 KHz away... The PRO III
desensed on his signal, across the entire band, if he was on SSB, and I
wan on CW, I could see, and hear it... So again, I am so very happy I
have the K3 I would never go back. If you want to see exactly how wide
the is looking at at 2 watts from 700 feet away see:

http://nk7z.net/wiki/elecraft-k3-macros/elecraft-k3-xlr-to-radio/elecraft-k3-new-synthesizer/

I did a compare of the old and new Synthesizers, and as an aside, it
will show you just how tight the K3 really is in strong signal
conditions.

I have four hams within a half mile of me. I really can't tell if they
are on, unless I get very close in frequency, (like under 10 KHz.), or
see them on the P3.

My only complaint about the rig is the dynamic range in the audio
section... If I have the AGC off, and one of my neighbors comes up
within my passband, my ears get nailed big time... There needs to be an
audio limiter on my rig...

Macro programming is nice, you can pretty much do anything you want with
the rig via Macros... I have macros that totally set up my rig based on
the mode I select via software. If I select RTTY, using MixW, the
macros fires for MODE START, and the radio is switched into DATA/RTTY
mode, transmit levels levels set, monitor levels set, etc, all
automatic. I almost never touch the radio now, but to tune, or adjust
RF/Audio levels. When I switch to PSK the same thing happens only for
PSK. So nope, I am happy as can be with the rig... Have fun, I am with
my K3!

Re: [Elecraft] K3: Upgrade or replace

2015-07-10 Thread David Cole
Bill,
For your usage, I would not even worry about replacing the K3 with a
K3S. Just upgrade the synthesizer, and that is about all you will need
for Rag Chewing, etc... Now, if you decide to start hunting DX, etc,
then you might start to worry...

I have a comparison between the old and new synthesizers at:

http://nk7z.net/wiki/elecraft-k3-macros/elecraft-k3-xlr-to-radio/elecraft-k3-new-synthesizer/

using P3 screen shots to show what happens before and after new
synthesizers are added to two different K3 rigs, at two different
stations, with antenna about 700 feet apart.

Re: [Elecraft] Observation on new Synthesizers for K3

2015-07-08 Thread David Cole
Al,

Let me pose a set of conditions, and see if I understand this...

Is the smearing caused mostly by the phase noise sidebands, as a
resultant of phase flicker?

i.e. If the phase noise were reduced on a transmitting VFO, then the
smearing would also be reduced, because the sidebands would no longer
reflect the wide band phase noise, as-- well-- sidebands? Is this
correct?

If so, then does that mean that as a station gets stronger, one picks up
more of the phase noise, (a function of how far from center one is), and
that is why a signal gets wider as it gets stronger?

It occurs to me that the the the RX VFO phase noise would be less
influencing, (on phase noise sidebands), than the transmit VFO phase
noise... Is that correct?

If so, then that would explain why the largest change occurred when
K7OLN got his new synthesizer, as opposed to me getting my new
synthesizer, as shown in the difference between photos 2 and 3.

Is my understanding correct?

too. This is because of the phase noise of the synthesizer or VFO.

Because of the smearing effect of this phase noise, received signals
can also appear wider than they are. The noise floor on either side
rises in direct proportion to the synthesizer's phase noise. Dave's
screenshots of the P3 spectrograms show this smearing clearly.

An oscillator with less phase noise looks more like that ideal picture
we all have in our heads -- of a signal that's infinitely narrow. In
the third of Dave's screenshots you can see how the new synths are
closer to an ideal oscillator-- the CW signal's width on the
 spectrogram is much narrower.

If a signal has lower noise sidebands (whether the sidebands are
generated in the transmitter or the receiver... each of them has a
synthesizer) then you can enjoy less interference from an adjacent
signal. You will also *cause* less interference to your neighbors on
 the band.

I have no idea of the design of the new synths, but in general to
design a synthesizer with low phase noise you have to start with very
low noise devices, pay really careful attention to the parts of the
phase-locked loop like the Q, feedback, the numeric dithering, the
loop filter and various other aspects of the circuit. It's a real art.
It appears from Dave's observations that there is a significant and
 measurable difference.

Well, there is one thing you did not do. A fourth condition, which
would be difficult, a lot more work given what you were doing. That

that the TX change first would create a different middle picture in
the series. But I doubt it...

These are not linear additive behaviors, and explaining noise
reduction from various sources is often very complex. The appearance
in the *frequency span* of the heavy continuous noise is cut in half
in the middle picture and then cut in half again in the third. That
would appear that the combining is a multiplicative function. The
difference at a given frequency would then be completely a child of
the shape of the noise curve, rendering the reduction at some
frequencies as an effectiveness measure pretty meaningless.

Noting that the heavy noise bandwidth is halved and then halved again
presents a better assessment. By that measure the changes are equally
 effective.

[Elecraft] Observation on new Synthesizers for K3

2015-07-07 Thread David Cole
Hello,

I had what I believe to be a unique opportunity to test the new
synthesizer in a high signal level environment, under some controlled
conditions.

K7OLN lives about 750 feet from me, and we both have static antenna
setups, and because he is running WSPR K7OLN also has static power
levels for these tests.

The three test states are as follows:

1. The first P3 capture is K7OLN's K3, using the old synthesizer, as
received on my K3 using an old synthesizer.

2. The second P3 capture is of K7OLN, using the same equipment on both
ends, save the new synthesizer on my rig only, and received on my K3.

3. The third P3 capture is after K7OLN upgraded his K3 to the new
synthesizer, with both radios using the new synthesizer.

I have a personal Wiki, and have published the data there at:

http://nk7z.net/wiki/elecraft-k3-macros/elecraft-k3-xlr-to-radio/elecraft-k3-new-synthesizer/

Not scientific, but close... As can be seen the new synthesizers make a
BIG difference. Bigger than I would have thought! THANK YOU
ELECRAFT!

K7OLN's purchase of a K3, (I want my Hat Elecraft!), made it such that
both he and I can operate on the same band, in the same segment, as
close as 10 to 15 KHz away from each other and not even know the other
station is there, save the HUGE spike in the P3, (which is supposed to
be there), all while at KW power levels for both of us.

If you like it, you pay once only for the version you tried and for
upgrades for 12 months, you also get customer support from 3 dedicated
 support guys and developers.
If you are happy with the version you are running, and don't need support or
updates, then you don't need to keep paying, you have bought the license
 for the software.

If you decide that you want the full features of the latest versions,
support for new radios, windows operating systems etc, country list updates
and another 12 months of the support team, then it is half the original
purchase price per year.. so that is just under $50.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - HRD rig control

2015-06-13 Thread David Cole
Hi Dick,

Just checking to see if the HRD software package can be rendered broken
by outside parties without a free update, after a year of ownership has
passed.

HRD itself is free to update, or not update, as they see fit, I
understand that.

I am not suggesting that they must update, but rather asking the
question-- would they update for free, if the software became useless
for reasons out of their control, and after a year of ownership.

Useless being defined as some major part being broken, like LoTW, or
K3 controls...

For just plain old rig control, you might try DM780 by itself under

Personally, I think this is a significantly missed opportunity to expand
the usefulness of diversity reception in the K3, especially now that the
new synths retain phase lock when changing frequency. If even only one
receiver in the K3 had the ability to time shift the audio signal, it
would work. The K3 already has separate volume controls and already has
the ability to mix the two channels. With two antennas separated
horizontally (i.e., two verticals a suitable distance apart), the phase
could be adjusted to boost a desired signal by roughly 3db or null an
undesired signal (noise or QRM) by 20 to 30 db or more (depending upon
how stable the signals were). Directional antennas are not needed at all.

I also think it would be interesting, and maybe useful, to use two
antennas separated vertically, such as a couple of dipoles or yagis on a
tower. Adjusting the phase could potentially drop a severe notch on an
interfering signal IN THE SAME DIRECTION as a desired signal.

Phase is preserved in the down conversion to audio so all this could be
accomplished at the audio level. I'm not saying that's the best place
to do it, but worst case I'm going to learn enough software code to do
it myself using the sound card of my computer since nobody else seems
 interested.

  Tony,

You are looking at information about how to compensate two unequal
receivers for true diversity reception - two orthogonally opposed
  antennas receiving the same signal.
The K3 makes that easy with a sub-receiver that is identical with the
main receiver and they are phase locked together in diversity. When
placed in diversity mode (using two antennas hopefully having different
polarity or directional characteristics), you will hear enhancement of
the reception from whichever antenna is receiving the best signal - you
have each receiver in each of your ears, and the human brain will
respond to the best signal. No phase adjustment is necessary.

OTOH, if you are looking to reduce the noise of your plasma TV and
routers, that is another form of reception that could (but not
necessarily) be related to diversity. You would want to use a
directional antenna aimed at the noise source to feed one receiver while
being able to adjust the amplitude and phase of that noise signal to
  cancel out the noise source.
It is possible that you could use the K3 with subRX to do that, the AF
and RF gain controls will do the amplitude part of the process and if
you provide an external mechanism for changing the phase of the two
antennas, you may be successful. The easiest phase change is simply to
flip the noise receive antenna terminals which should achieve a 180
degree phase shift, but the actual phase shift will depend on several
other factors such as the length of the antenna feedlines and the
physical placement of the antennas (which control the arrival time of
the noise signal at the antennas).

So, yes, it is possible that with suitable antennas placed properly, the
K3 with subRX *could* serve as a noise cancelling system, but it was not
designed for that purpose, it was designed to counter propagation
effects such as fading due to polarization.

don't like for things to get any warmer than necessary.

[Elecraft] Got external Monitor running on P3

2015-04-16 Thread David Cole
Hi,
I got the external monitor running on the P3, was easy... Cost all of
100 bucks for the monitor, and as far as I can tell it works great, a 7
inch device.

See:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/201226395031?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It is claiming to be 1920 by 1080! It is sharp, and was almost plug and
play.

I had to replace the supplied EU wall wart with a 12 V, center +, 1 A,
US, wall wart, but after that all was well... Seems to not generate any
RFI either...

The colors are a bit different from the P3, and it is not quite as
sharp, but I am happy... Now if I could only get the DECODED CW, etc,
off the K3, and showing ONLY on the SVGA device... :)

[Elecraft] Trade for K3 stuff...

2015-03-21 Thread David Cole
=
Astronomical Objective: 12.5 inch diameter mirror
F/6, full thickness, (2.13 inches)
Fully aluminized, and fully parabolized
Pyrex, research grade mirror for sale or trade.

This mirror was tested at better than 1/8 wave accuracy, (P-P wavefront)
A tested value of .972 for Sterehl rating.

All testing was performed by Optical Wave Labs in California. The
original test certificate will be included with the mirror when
purchased. The mirror was ground by Optical Wave Labs as well.

This is a high quality mirror, that has been finished, tested, and
aluminized by a professionals in the United States. If you are going to
build a 12.5 inch scope, this is the mirror to use!

To purchase this mirror, it would cost you between $1000, and $1500,
even locating a full thickness Pyrex blank is hard to do anymore.
Asking $800.00.

I am no longer interested in Astronomy, (I was going to build a scope
out of this mirror), and the mirror is now up for sale, or trade, for
radio gear.

I will consider any like value trade for this mirror. The mirror is in
mint condition, not near mint, but mint condition...Unused,
unmounted, and still packed in the original shipping box from the lab
that ground it. What have you to trade for it?

I will pay shipping/Insurance for the mirror within CONUS, you pay
shipping/insurance within CONUS for your item.

Looking for amps, rigs, test equipment, etc... What have you? Feel free
to offer up any sort of like valued ham radio equipment, or pretty much
anything electronic, or science related.

I'm very sure that, when I first set up RTTY, I went to AFSK A because I

  MMTTY.

I'll leave it as I've been using it, it works so it obviously doesn't

AFSK A and DATA A are both audio modes. AFSK A uses LSB
and FC is set to MARK - 85 Hz (the center of the two RTTY

of the transmit audio passband [200 - 2800 Hz]).

AFSK A also allows use of the AFSK transmit filter (a tight
filter around the Mark/Space tones to eliminate hum/pops/etc.)
and the use of the Dual Tone filter on receive.
