Re: [Elecraft] Strange problem when switching modes from VFO A to B

2008-12-14 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA

Jack,

You are correct. I have had the reports of pinched audio and just cycle to
another band and back or switch sidebands and back and everything is OK.

I have duplicated what you report:

VFO A on CW and VFO B on SSB.

Turn off K3 while on VFO A - CW.

Turn it back on and immediately switch to VFO B - SSB and the audio is
terrible.

Cycle to other sideband and back and all is well again.

This only happens to me on 40, 80, and 160 meters. Other bands are
unaffected. Each time I have had a report of bad audio, it was on 40 meters.
Rarely operate 80 or 160 meters.

I am glad to find out how to get around this problem. I hope something can
be done with programming to fix it, though.

[Elecraft] K3 sweepstakes this weekend

2008-11-04 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA
Hi Don,

Thank you for the SSCW contact this past weekend. I believe you were the one
who told me I had a chirp. (If not, I am sorry to have burdened you with this).

After the report, I immediately switched from my K3 to a K2 and finished the
contest. I was using N3FJP software to key the K3 as well as a paddle for
keying the K3 keyer. Can you tell me how bad the chirp was? I have had two
other reports like this during contests - even the QRP ARCI at 5 watts. It
seems it comes on after I have used the K3 for a substantial amount of time. I
contacted Elecraft support and they suggested some things to check out, but it
is very difficult to do when the radio works fine most of the time. I set it up
here with a loop from the logging program and let it run into a dummy load for
over an hour with no change. I may have to send it back to them for their
analysis.

Anyway, I finished the contest with 706 Qs in 77 sections (no ND, NL, NT) for a
score of 100K+. Sure is a fun contest. I really enjoy the K3, but the K2 is
still a very good radio for CW contests also. I made 357 Qs with the K3 and 349
with the K2.

Thanks and best regards.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for July 13th & 14th, 2008

2008-07-15 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA

Hi Kevin,

Good to hear you on ECN. One change, my K3 is #1208 not 1207. It sure seems
like a very nice radio. I took it to the cabin over the weekend and got in
some nice QSOs. Had to come home early so we could attend my grand
daughter's sixth birthday party Sunday afternoon. So. I missed the 20 meter
net. I can only run about 40 to 50 watts from here on 40 meters since I
knock out a couple of GFIs if I run 100 watts.

Hope to remember next week's net.

[Elecraft] FS: K2 S/N 3900 with options

2008-01-02 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA

Happy New Year.

I have for sale my favorite K2, serial number 3900. This radio has served me
extremely well during many ragchews, Fox Hunts, and contests over the past
almost four years. I have built four K2s, and now it is time to try the K3.
Meanwhile, I will use my other K2/100. This K2, 3900, is in excellent shape
cosmetically with no marks on the cabinet. It is 100% electronically. It
includes:

K2Basic K2 (#3900)

KSB2Internal sideband generator board (late board with newer
crystals)

KNB2Internal noise blanker board

KAF2Internal audio filter board

K160RX Internal 160 meter board

KAT2Internal auto antenna tuner

Currently setup for 600 Hz sidetone and offset. CW filters set at 1000, 700,
400, and 250 Hz. using Spectrogram. Microphone jumpers are set for the
Elecraft MH2 microphone. (Not included)

This is a Revision B main board radio, which includes many upgrades over the
pre-3000 serial number units. Firmware is:

K2 MCU 2.03D K2 IOC 1.07 KSB2 1.08b

Includes manuals for all modules. Includes power cable with PowerPole on
power supply end.

Price, including shipping to US is $825.00. I will email a PDF file with
pictures on request. Please contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[Elecraft] FS: Elecraft KAT100-2 external 100W antenna tuner

2005-04-12 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA
This KAT100 tuner is in perfect condition. It has had very little use. It is
built into the EC2 enclosure and includes the three inch tilt stand to match
the K2. The manual is an excellent copy from the Elecraft web site and is
comb bound. I spilled coffee on the original. $260.00 including shipping
within the US.

RE:[Elecraft] New K2 owner- question on first start up

2004-10-16 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA

Hi Jerry,

The T that looks like an E with the top bar missing is actually a lower case
t. It is OK. As for always coming up with PRE, try turning pre off and then
either switching bands and returning to your initial band or change modes
and return to your original mode. It will "stick" in the off position then.
Nor sure why, though.
