[Elecraft] CW Type and K-3

2009-06-03 Thread Greg Storms
I had time last night to work on the problem I was having getting CW
Type to key the K-3. I was getting the red transmit light but no RF
going out the wire. VOX was on and the K-3 was not in test mode. I
found that my difficulty is understanding the PTT-KEY menu selections.
I cycled through each and finally found that the OFF-DTR selection
worked. The CW Type setup menu is for PTT = RTS and KEY = DTR. Don't
understand it, but I'm getting the result I was looking for.

[Elecraft] CW Type

2009-06-02 Thread Greg Storms
Has anyone successfully gotten CW Type to work with the K-3? I can get
it to send the keying to the K-3 but I'm not getting RF out the door.

[Elecraft] CW Type

2009-06-02 Thread Greg Storms
I have the computer connected via the RS-232. HRD is working fine so I
don't suspect anything wrong with the connection. When I send a letter
the red transmit indicator on the K-3 lights as if it were transmitting
but no RF out. VOX is on.

First tell us how you have your computer interfaced to the K3 so it
can send the keying as you stated.

Re: [Elecraft] Sneak Preview: New Elecraft products

2009-05-14 Thread Greg Storms
Hey Guys and Gals,

I'll bet the Elecrafters have left at least one thing they have been
working on to be a *suprise* at Dayton. Could it be? :-)

There must be a good market for wattmeters these days in spite of the
fact that most rigs and amplifiers have internal meters.

We've long wanted to create a really high-quality LED power/SWR meter.
This project has been in the works for quite a while, and is in fact a
superset of our W1 mini-module wattmeter. A lot more LEDs, remote
 sensors, etc.

Gosh, I would have thunk a K3-S external speaker would be an easy
 sell

That's another one of my projects, and I haven't had time to finish it.
I built one prototype that looks great but still needs some acoustic
tweaks. It won't get out of my lab until it's a big improvement on the
 K3's internal speaker.

 and a panadapter

(Doh!) Why didn't I think of that?

Or just connect up the K-3 directly and turn the Windows sounds off.
They are a PITA anyway.

Re: [Elecraft] K-2 Transmitted signal distorted (Hum)

2007-07-24 Thread Greg Storms

Thanks for all the replies!

Not a power supply problem. Does exactly the same thing when on battery
backup. Nothing new in the operating position to create a problem.
RFC15 is *NOT* open. There is 5 volts on both sides of it.

Don Wilhelm wrote:

One thing you may want to check is RFC15 on the bottom of the RF
Board. Check it with an ohmmeter to be certain it is not open. If
you try to do it by measuring the voltage on each side of the choke,
you will find 5 volts on both sides whether it is open or not.

It occurs on both SSB and CW. This happened rather suddenly as I had
contacts the previous day with no problems noted.

Occurs when the KAT-100 is grounded or ungrounded and on different
antennas. Anyone else had this happen? Suggestions

as to where to begin looking?

[Elecraft] AGC and AF gain

2004-07-30 Thread Greg Storms
Hi Elecrafters:

I turned the AGC off the other day and was suprised to note a very noticible
increase in audio volume. I had to back the AF gain down by a quarter to a
third turn to get it at a reasonable listening level. I tried this on several
signals and it was the same. It has always seemed that my K-2 has been weak in
audio volume. Doesn't seem like this should be so. Any thoughts? Recheck the
AGC threashold setting?

Thanks in advance,

Greg, KD7SRC, K-2 #3434
