[Elecraft] K160Rx protection

2020-04-01 Thread Hans J Rasmusen via Elecraft
Hello
My K2/K100 complain and wants to get on the air.
I plan to use the build-in K160RX antenna switch for a separate rx antenna,
which is about 10m /30 feet from my tx antenna. Plan to run 100 W.
Tx antenna is a vertical. Rx antenna is a low (1 m above grd) horizontal
dipole.
Do I have to install a rx protection curcuit on the rx antenna.
I do not remember doing so earlier, but have forgotten and want to play safe.

Thank you, stay safe and keep distance

[Elecraft] KX3 Dual Watch

2019-01-16 Thread Hans J Rasmusen via Elecraft
Good morning,

The KX3 has a nice Dual Watch feature. It is however, of limited use when the
DX is weak and the callers are strong (a common case here).
To overcome this problem I have build a simple two channels audio amplifier
with 2 LM380N (Manhattan style) with independent volumn controls.
I can Independently boost the VFO A signal in one channel and reduce the VFO B
in the other Channel.
But some VFO A signal seems to leak into the VFO B channel and visa versa.
I can not observe any signal leakage when using an audio generator as test
input.

Has anyone observed something similar?
Does the KX3 Dual Watch feature only offer a limited channel separation or have
I wired my amplifier wrongly?

Thank you in advance.

[Elecraft] Connecting a KXUSB to the K2 RS232

2018-08-06 Thread Hans J Rasmusen via Elecraft
All,
During the past weekend I pulled my faithful K2 out for the EUHFContest.
I found a RS232 to USB cable locally, but it does not connect. Is there a way I
can check if the chip works correctly?

I have a couple of KXUSB on hand. Is there any reason that I can not or should
not connect the KXSUB Tip to Pin 3, the Ring to the Pin 2 and the Sleeve to Pin
5 of the DB9F connector (from the K2)?
I should then be able to key and control the K2 from N1MM logger, as I do my
KX3.

By the way, the K2 CW sound beats all, my KX3 included.

Thanks 73

Cool,
Will it work with the KX3 as well?
