Re: [Elecraft] Charger question
Skip There is a a discussion on the Elecraft .io forum where a popular power supply manufacturer describes the difference between a Power Suppy and Charger. The manufacturer pointed out that using a power supply to charge lithium batteries is risky, because current is usually not regulated and voltage regulation might not be tight enough. As an engineer friend reminded me, charging lithium battery banks requires tight contrrol of both voltage and current. The 14.8V lipo pack that was discussed would normally be charged with 16.8V (4 x 4.2V) at 500ma to 2A, depending on the battery manufacturere specifications. 73 Howard K4LXY Howard Zehr K4LXY Radio blog: https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog Photo gallery: www.howardzehr.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] KX3 batteries
You might want to consider the option I describe in this blog entry. It uses LifePO4 AA batteries and though they have to be charged outside the rig, they are much more satisfactory in my opinion. 73 Howard K4LXY https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog <https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog> Howard Zehr K4LXY Radio blog: https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog Photo gallery: www.howardzehr.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Internal LiFePO4 batteries for the KX3
I have posted a blog entry on a modification to use AA LiFePO4 batteries in the KX3: https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog <https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog> 73 Howard K4LXY Howard Zehr K4LXY Radio blog: https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog Photo gallery: www.howardzehr.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KX-1 low output
When I first built my KX-1, the output was low. I installed the modification suggested by Elecraft (replacing R11 and R30) and that brought it within specs, though barely. Recently when I added the KXB3080 module, the output dropped slightly so that it was below 3 W. I sent it to Don W3FPR and he found that the output from the DDS was low. He improved the output by paralleling a 47 ohm resister with R10, to increase the output of Q5. That did the trick, bringing the overall output to where it should be. I thought I’d pass this on in case someone else has this problem. [Elecraft] A an old-new KX1 build (Paul Harker)
Paul - I suggest you email Elecraft about this. They are good about replying. It's possible there has been an update in the firmware. Also, there is an update about what to do if there is low power output that is hard to find on the Elecraft website. [Elecraft] Using Lith-Ion batteries in the KX-1
I have just uploaded a video to YouTube that explains how I use Lith-Ion batteries in the KX-1 for more voltage than Alkalines, and thus more RJ output. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFyIWrzE0BEfeature=youtu.be Howard K4LXY Photo gallery: www.howardzehr.com Blog: http://emu.edu/blog/restorative-justice/ FORTHCOMING BOOK (May 2013): Pickups: A Love Story - Pickups, Their Owners, Their Stories (Good Books) http://goodbooks.com/book/9781561487882-pickups--a-love-story-hardcover-with-dustjacket#.UQKcd6WwqX8 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
