Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500

2017-04-21 Thread Hunter Ellington
Well, I was never advocating for an Elecraft legal limit amp, so I
don't have a dog in this fight, but at $6K, it takes the amp out of
the hobby category. I know things are expensive today, but this price
point will be very self limiting. Good luck and I hope you sell a lot
of them..

Yup. 50 volt devices with plenty of thermal margin.

[Elecraft] General Coverage Module

2016-06-06 Thread Hunter Ellington
I have the General Coverage Module in my K3, serial number 6969. Recently,
whenever I listen to the broadcast band, the signals will drop out, or
significantly down and an occasion audio will distort. I do not notice this in
any other mode, or on the ham bands. Any thoughts?

[Elecraft] P3 Waterfall

2015-03-24 Thread Hunter Ellington via Elecraft
I recently purchased a new P3/SVGA unit, and am using it with my K3 (serial #
6999).  I have a few questions.  First, when I engage the Marker function and
use it in the waterfall window, it comes up on the P3 screen, but not on the
external monitor (although it does work on the upper panadapter portion of the
monitor screen).  How do I get it to work on both waterfall screens?  Second, I
run the K3 in conjunction with my Flex5000A.  I notice that the Flex waterfall
appears to have considerably more detail and a more robust color scheme than
the P3.  The Flex also has more detail (I see signals on the Flex that barely
come up on the P3).  I switch between the same antenna, so that should not be a
factor.  Is there a sensitivity adjustment on the P3 that I need to play with?
If not, I must admit that the P3 waterfall does not appear to perform nearly as
well as the Flex.  Finally, once you assign a function to an FN series button,
is there a way to delete the assignment, short of assigning another function
over it?  Thanks for your input.     K0GFY  R. Hunter Ellington

[Elecraft] No PTT

2011-01-11 Thread Hunter Ellington
For no particular reason (that I know of) my K3 serial #849 suddenly has no ptt
function. I have gone into the menu and cannot re-engage the PTT. I get an
error message of err tfx. The rig will tune in cw, but no PTT. What am I
doing
wrong? I'm sure it is painfully obvious.

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Digest, Vol 74, Issue 2

2010-06-02 Thread Hunter Ellington
Let me piggyback with another somewhat related question. I have an Ameco PT-3
preamp sitting in the shack. It covers all ahm bands through six meters. I
plan on using it for SW listening (I do not have the general coverage module
installed on the radio), and for 6 meter operation. It has an internal
transmit/receive circuit. Will this set up work for both applications? I know
when I tune around the SW bands I do hear signals, so I am hopeful that the
preamp will help. Any guidance?

I am adding a preamp to my K3 (SN 763) to help out with some weaker signals.
As i have a 5 el yagi at 40 ft, best i can do, it's fed with 1/2 inch hardline
and is about 75 ft long. I had a Radio shack unit i found that had 10 db gain
from 50 mc upwards. I did hear an increase in noise anyway FWIW but it's not
what i wanted and besides it's 110Vac operated. Mainly for fringe TV reception
i suspect.

Anyway i'm trying to determine just how to install this thing. I have the dual
fans on the back so mounting it there is not an option. Another route is
definitely needed so this isn't a big problem. What i am having trouble
figuring out is the cabling. I saw one picture of how a ham had done his but
there was no mention of where or which port on the radio would be used. I
suspect it has to be the AUX port correct? I only have one 6 meter antenna.
How can i use the preamp without some sort of external ant switch?

The older one gets the easier we seem to get confused. Trying to make sense of
the pictures in the manual is a ride to mental instability for me. Just
doesn't seem to be all the parts there to make sense.

Suggestion? Otherwise, this radio is super. Getting to know how to make it
work now and it's sure a lot of fun to play with.

Greetings to the list. I recently purchased a K3, serial number in the late
