Also have a factory assembled T1 that is surplus to my needs after I
installed the internal tuner in my KX3.

$120 shipped in the US.

wide range of antenna configurations and only needs a half watt for
tuning. A special cable (optional) is available from Elecraft that
integrates it with a Yaesu FT-817 and will operate using the FT-817's

This one was built by me and never used other than initial testing. Since
the only QRP rig I have now is a KX3 (has the internal ATU) I no longer

Elecraft's price for the kit is $139.95 plus shipping. I'm asking $130

order accepted). I'd prefer not to ship it internationally due to the high
 cost of postage.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 on 50 MHz - noise and possible harmonics

2015-06-30 Thread Mike Murphree
In recent testing of a new Cloud-IQ SDR, I found the same thing at home.
Two tones about 500 Hz apart and reoccurring at about the same interval.
I used my KX3 to track it down to the 100BASE-T ethernet cables. The noise
floor on the SDR is 140 dB and was able to pick it up.

I have received the ferrites recommended by K9YC. The plan is to install
them on Wednesday. I have both the #43 and #61 material.

I have a steady S3/4 noise level at all frequencies with the preamp off,

These are all steady 2-tone signals with perhaps a couple hundred hertz

First, is my background noise level local or should that be expected on
 50

Could this be broadcast overload way up here on 50 MHz? I do have a
 fairly

But back to JT65. If it turns out the KX3's temperature compensation
can't provide the stability you'd like, we could design an external 10-

the equivalent of the K3EXREF, which does the same job for the K3.

The only drawback to such a module is that it would have to be
installed in place of the planned 2-meter module. It would use the SMA
 connector as the 10-MHz input.

 Would this be of interest?

Even in place of the 2 meter module, yes!

Frequency stability will be important long term for current and future
modes.

Re: [Elecraft] Possible power supply option for the KX3

2012-06-20 Thread Mike Murphree
An ATX power supply is not the best of choices. PC power supplies often
regulate on the low voltage outputs for the processor, and the higher
voltage outputs are slaved to that. Without a suitable load on the main
output, the voltage regulation on the other outputs can be very poor.

 Phil,

I modified a 300W ATX PS from my junk box 5 years ago and using it
every day since with my K2 and K3. A lot of dxing and contests, not
 a single issue.
The quality of the PC PS differs too much, but a good many of them
are not worse than the other swithers.

Re: [Elecraft] Flex 3000 or KX3

2012-04-02 Thread Mike Murphree
Keep in mind that for any of the Flex radios, you will need a relatively
modern, fast computer as well with a Firewire interface. I would expect
that you'd spend at least $1000 for a computer good enough and still expect
to do some tweaking. A recent Mac will also work, but not under emulation.
BootCamp with a copy of Win 7 ($$) is suggested for a Mac.
