[Elecraft] 3B7C
Dear list members, Worked (and confirmed in their on-line log) 3B7C this week on 17 & 20 m, with my K2, (QRP only), output 5 Wtts, antenna 2-el Cub. Quad at abt. 8 meters (24 ft) high. They were only S2-S3 overhere.at abt. 14:00 hrs UTC. They sure have good "ears" and good operators on the island. I also heard them on 30, 40 & 80 m but could not break the pile-up. 73/72, Rob, PA0RBO K2 #2406. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Re: OT G5RV
There are lots of articles on the G5RV antenna, but I can't find the the "real" original article from Varney himself. I think it is published in 1946 in the RSGB magazine (now RADCOM). In an informative article written by Bill Orr, W6SAI (SK), page 74 to 81 in CQ magazine november 1992, Orr states that the G5RV is an offspring of a 3-band antenna (80-40-20 meters) designed bij Art Collins and L.M.Croft and desribed in dec.1935 in Signal magazine a house publication of the old Collins Radio Company. This antenna was never a succes because of mechanical problems with the matching section. In 1946 Varney redesigned and popularized this antenna now known as the G5RV antenna. In the same article Bill Orr gives his experiences and measurements done by him with the G5RV. His "Lessons Learned" are worth reading and still valid today. 73, PA0RBO ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Re: ZB2FK
If you just type the call ZB2FK in Google you will find a lot of information. When I run into a for me unfamiliar callsign I always follow that route. You can also find ZB2FK in QRZ.COM and Buckmasters. 73, Rob, PA0RBO ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] NPO cap's
Tom, You will find the NPO ceramic cap's information via Google under "Capacitors Tutorial". Ther are four ranges: Black, Purple, Orange and Yellow. They belong to different values of the capacitors. I think it is a colour scheme used by the Dutch firm Philips. 73, Rob, PA0RBO ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] re: special/rare callsigns (was P40A)
Keith, I did not see anyone mention it on the reflector, but what I find is a good entry to start searching a special callsign is: "Google". Just type the call in and you will be surprised what you find there. There are referencies to other sites, for instance the QSL manager etc. 73/72 Rob, PA0RBO, K2 # 2406 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Increased Elecraft orders from Europe
Ref. query Eric Swartz, WA6HHQ, Elecraft. On the yearly "HF-day" held on 18 september last in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, there was a special lecture about the K2 with all the adds-on by a Dutch ham and there was also a presentation of the "Banaba DX-expedition (T33)" held in april 2004 given by two Dutch hams who were part of the team. A number of K2/100's were used during this expedition and the Dutch amateurs were very positive about the performance of the K2's. (Far above their expectations they had before the start of the expedition. They never had worked before with a K2). This meeting is always attended by several HF/DX operators, so the good word on Elecraft kits is spread in the Dutch HF world. Occasions like these where people hear "first hand" (favourable) experiences combined with the present relatively cheap US dollar versus the Euro are in my opinion the important figures for increased ordering of Elecraft kits from Europe. In my local radio club with 60 members there are 3 K2 owners. (5 %). I don't think that is reprentative for the total Dutch ham population of about 15.000, but the number of Elecraft users is growing in my country. 73/72, Rob, PA0RBO ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Did not here Dwayne, YI9RVT, at all on 20 m nor any other Elecraft users, a lot of QRM from AA contest. Heard Dwayne on 40m, but very weak, abt. 329. Called several times in vain as did Sverre, LA3ZA. Freq. was clear, but no good propagation to the Middle-East. In the end had a solid contact with LA3ZA. Thanks for organising Dwayne, we will try again next week. I used 5 Wtts out into a horizontal loop, 4 x 10 mtrs at abt. 9 mtrs high. 73/72, Robert, PA0RBO ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft You must subscribe to post.
