[Elecraft] K4 Delivery delay

2022-04-03 Thread Sam Sargent via Elecraft

I readthe Elecraft (EC) Digest regularly and find many articles interesting,
and someuseful.  The topic“K4 and Delivery Delays” has appeared recently but I
didn’t see anyone ask thequestions that are in my mind.  I placedmy order for a
K4D in December 2021 and paid the $1500 deposit.  I received an email
acknowledgment from ECsaying that my order is part of the group 3. The EC web
site indicates that all orders for K4s in group 1 and Group 2have been shipped,
and that hams who are in Group 3 have received emails.  IMHO EC should provide
more information tohams who have ordered K4s, especially those of us who have
invested theoptional $1500. I believe that the ESD for the H4D that I ordered
was lastprojected as June or July 2022.  In thisday of digital communication,
it does not seem like too much to ask that ECprovide hams who have ponied up
the $1500, receive regular (monthly) updatesthat show how many orders are in
the que ahead of theirs, and an updatedEstimated Delivery date, and final cost.
I look forward to a thoughtful answer to myquestions. N1OVA

[Elecraft] Elecraft KPA500 sn 1910 dead, update.

2022-01-17 Thread Sam Sargent via Elecraft

Elecraft KPA500 sn 1910 dead.

UPDATE 12/17/21

First. Thanks to everyone who has responded to mypost.  I have read all
comments withinterest and have responded to several folks who offered ideas
that I havetried.  Thank you for trying to help.

SECOND. Here is a bit of extra info that I havediscovered.  I disassembled the
fuse blockand cleaned all contacts and the fuses with the “Deoxit” product.  I
configured my “OWON HDS272S”meter/oscilloscope to measure resistance and noted
that the leads are about 0.7ohms.  I connected the meter leads to theflat
prongs of the 115vac cord that was plugged into the fuse block on theKPA500.
With the rocker switch on thefuse block 3 in the OFF position (o) the meter
showed zero (0) ohms.  With switch 3 ON (!) the meter showed 2.8ohms.  Thus,
subtracting the resistance inthe meter leads, the resistance through the fuse
block changed from 0 ohms to2.1 ohms.  I connected the 115vac cord tothe wall
socket and went through the power up procedure.  No joy. I listened for the hum
of the transformer, and there was no hum.  I am flummoxed!

CONCLUSION.  Thisleads me to believe that the power cord, fuses, and fuse block
are functioning.

I think that my next step is to look into the possibilityof sending the KPA500
to a repair facility. I am open to your ideas.  73 Sam

[Elecraft] Elecraft KPA500 sn 1910 dead.

2022-01-15 Thread Sam Sargent via Elecraft

I bought this KPA500 from the estate of a friend whois a SK.  I queried
Elecraft about themanufacture date and learned that the unit is factory built
and delivered inMarch 2014.  The unit was originally setup to operate on 220
vac.

I used my KUSB cable to connect the KPA500 to mycomputer, attached a dummy load
to the output, and connected the power cord tothe amp.  I had changed the fuse
blockand installed two 12-amp EC fuses that I checked for continuity,
reinstalledthe fuse holder so ‘115 V’ shows in the window, and made sure that
the fuseblock was fully seated.  I removed thecover and, since my line voltage
shows 123 vac, connected the yellowtransformer lead.

I set the rocker switch on the fuse block (3) to ON (!),then tapped the ‘ON’
switch (11) on the front panel.  There was no response to the ‘turn
on’procedure.  The KPA500 is as dead as a doornail.

I have spent several hours trying to troubleshootthis problem.  I have checked
my 120 vac,20 amp duplex outlet and a am sure that it is delivering power to
thecord.  I have substituted another power cord.  The safety interlock
(chicken) switch isdepressed by a pin mounted on the underside of the cover.  I
have tested this switch and tested the ampwith the switch ‘locked’ closed, no
joy.
I have exhausted all thetroubleshooting ideas that are within my capabilities.
I hope that another KPA500 owner may be ableto provide information that I can
use to get my amp up & running.  Thanks, Sam N1OVA

[Elecraft] K4D Owner Manual

2021-12-29 Thread Sam Sargent via Elecraft
I have ordered a K4D transceiver and would like to read the "Owner Manual".  I
printed the "Introduction to the Elecraft K4" and have read it.  However, I
hope that there is a more comprehensive manual available.  I have looked at the
manual embedded in the K4 but have not tied to print it since the black
background chews up lots of toner.  If anyone can suggest a source where I can
find a PDF of an Operator manual for the K4D I will be grateful.  Thanks in
advance.  73 All.  N1OVA Sam.
