Jim, K9YC, pointed out the work AT7T labs did to improve intelligibility over the phone lines. Fletcher & Munson did quite a bit of research into this for the military for the same reason. Interesting reads. Setting your radio RX EQ to reflect this would be a good start, if you can. A good product line at a good price. Used his products in the past.
