Inp on the first menu can be set to PdLn or PdLr, or HAnd. Also if one goes to the menu Inp and then does a hold on EDIT, tapping DISPLAY will toggle and show the resultant state of Autodetect feature, which will allow both straight key and paddle to be hooked up to the rig at the same time if turned on. See http://www.elecraft.com/manual/E740001_K2%20Owner's%20Manual%20Rev%20I.pdf page 99 and elsewhere. Also do NOT attempt to make sense of what happens if a shorted state exists on either paddle lead when the rig is turned on. If either paddle lead is shorted when the rig is turned on, the K2 will abide by a firmware directive not to key the transmitter with a key/paddle assertion in force when it is powered up. So as soon as you key the rig, the shorted state is now paid attention to. This initiates the behavior you refer to. Easily caused by using a mono plug instead of a stereo plug. 73, Guy. I'm not sure why your plug is working on a different K2, though. Put a stereo plug on it (no - an adapter will not work) and connect the key to the tip and to the shell. 73, Don W3FPR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3: Terminology
I guess I'm surprise...I'm a profesional Telecom engineer, and I always hear from other professionals and vendors, and I personally use, the term key when refering to the action of putting a transmitter in transmit mode. Quite an impact CB radio is making in the telcommunication world! 73, Robert - KP4Y Sent from my HTC on the Now Network from Sprint! - Reply message - From: VK7JB zen...@netspace.net.au Date: Wed, Apr 11, 2012 8:45 am Subject: [Elecraft] K3: Terminology To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Pete, I'm sorry to have offended your sensibilities. Re: [Elecraft] [Elecraft_K3] Re: Unfair Comparison?
I agree with a previous post that the price difference between an equally equiped K3 and a FT-5K is very close if none. I did the price comparison before buying the K3 and what really made decide for the K3 instead of the FT-5K was Elecraft's great customer service and the fact that I didn't have an immediate need for features like the second receiver and the 200 watts, thus saving some money. I also do believe that the K3 receiver is out of this world specially on the implementation of the digital NR. My SO2R second radio is a TS-590 and which I believe is the best bang for the buck for a DX'er/contester who doesn't want to spend more than $2K on a radio. In my opinion,it's unfair to compare a K3 with a TS-590 simply because they are in different price class. I paid near $1,700 for my TS-590 wheras my almost plain K3 costed me near $2,600 last December and it doesn't include some options the TS-590 includes like ATU, FM, AM and general coverage receiver. Does the K3 have a better receiver than the TS-590?, darn yeah!...much superior I would say and that's what I expected. Otherwise I would have two TS-590 sitting on my desk today with $1K+ (I intend to get the ATU option soon) to spare in my pocket. Therefore, the K3 is in my opinion in the same class as the FT-5K. [Elecraft] Controlling K3 with KX3?
I'm about to pull the trigger on the KX3 but I'm trying to justify another HF rig in the shack (specially to the wife :)). Will it be possible in the future to control a K3 using the KX3, specially since they are similar from the physical and remote control (same command set?) standpoint.
