[Elecraft] P3/K3 spurry

2014-04-07 Thread stephen pearce
Hi

My P3/K3 combination (with pa and atu) seems to have developed a big spurry
on the spectral display of the P3 which sits around
the mid point of the display (the tuned frequency) .. it is initially (on
turn on) worse and gradually subsides as things warm up (I presume)
though never goes away entirely. It didn't used to be there .. and I wonder
if it has been observed and trouble shotted in another system.
It doesn't seem to produce any noticable interference on the audio but it
does make it difficult to id signal on the spectral display.

[Elecraft] pa and atu for kx3 ..

2012-09-06 Thread stephen pearce
Hi
Is there any indication of a release date for these ... and also
estimate of cost?
Will the control interface support other transceivers .. any
preliminary design and/or interface
information ?
Thanks

[Elecraft] K2 ..K2 100w ATU .. hirefl current error and then over current failure

2012-01-12 Thread stephen pearce
Does anyone recognise this pattern ..
k2 100W
kat100 (rev b board)

..
apparently intermittent error ...
initially hirefl current error on auto tuning ...
then overcurrent failure of power supply when auto tuning at high current ...

rx working fine ... in kat100 ant1/ant2 relay seems to be ok .. as is
hi/low current relay
and all the L and C relays for the auto tuner seem to click in
appropriately when you run through them in the set up menu on the k2

I've inspected the board in the kat100 and there are no obvious dry or
loose solder joins ...

If you tune at sequentially higher power settings starting at 0.1,
then just under 10 (so as not to trigger the high power relay )
then just above 10w then 20+w .. then full power it seems to avoid the
over current failure of the supply ..

Why the supply (which is mfj4125) is cutting out (it must have a
resettable fuse as it recovers after about 30 sec) puzzles me ..
previously I have observed the k2 shut itself down before this happens
.. and makes me wonder if rf is getting into the supply ..
particularly if there is an initial significant mismatch in the atu
before it completes its auto tune

I have tried init reset in the k2 atu submenu .. as well as the cal
routines ...

tried transmitting into dummy load and into antenna ...neither seems
to make a consistant difference ...

possibly there is a fault in the fwd/refl power sensing in the atu ..
but this should not produce over current cut out in the supply

(this k2/kat100 is a friends ...I tried substuting my kat100 .. which
seems to work ok with his k2)

Any suggestions appreciated ...

[Elecraft] order of construction for k3

2010-05-26 Thread stephen pearce
Hi
I have the 2nd rx, dvr and xv3 ready to install preparatory for the
arrival of the p3.
I want to install all 3 in one go.
The manuals are written as if you were starting from scratch each time.
Could someone (maybe who has already done this) give me some advise of
the sequence of approach
given that I want to do all 3 installations in one go
Mni Tnx

[Elecraft] uptodate k3 menu list

2008-05-09 Thread stephen pearce
Hi
Is there upto date documentation on what is in the k3 menus
.. I cannot find the option which allows cw transmission from within
ssb mode .. which would be quite useful for our cw improvers net where
we switch back and forward from phone to cw all the time ...
there must be other additions tot he k3 menus in the recent firmware
releases also

Tnx

[Elecraft] wspr and k3

2008-05-04 Thread stephen pearce
wspr is a very low power beconing mode ... see k1jt .. it is a
derivitive of wsjt ..
I wonder if it is conceiveable that the k3 could incoporate wspr
decoding in its firmware ...
I should not imaging becon transmitting would be a problem ..

rational .. wspr beacons may become very common given the growth curve
on the wspr database ...
it could conceivably provide real time all band propogation
information .. somewhat similar to ale ..
cheers

[Elecraft] combining so2r and main rx o/p

2008-04-06 Thread stephen pearce
1/
With regard to combining signals from different antennas ..
phased verticals feed by the same tx are used to provide directional
control of tx signal ..
could one phase combine signals from the 2nd receiver and signals from
the first ...
connected to different antennas .. (are the local oscillators fed from
the same clock ?) to produce a similar phased directional control on
receive
2/The reference input port on the k3 has a blank in it and I cannot
see any infomation on installation of the external reference
connection .. where does one find informatin on this ?

Tnx

[Elecraft] K3 if isolation of softrock lite used as panadapter

2008-02-11 Thread stephen pearce
A month or so ago one of the Elecraft engineers pointed out that
if the softrock lite rx is connected directly to the if port on the k3
there was a significant issue with coupling of rf from the softrock
board into the
rx if of the k# with consequent degradation in rx performance ...

Has anyone produced a design for a suitable isolation amplifier/
coupling stage which will
prevent this and still allow the softrock to be used (in conjunction
with a pc) as a panadapter?

Thanks

[Elecraft] k3 external freq ref

2007-10-10 Thread stephen pearce
It is not clear to me from the schematic or the owner manual whether
this is for a 10 MHz or 49 MHz input signal .. the faq indicates
that it is 10 Mhz (and presumably converted up to
49 MHz ) but on cursory perusal of the documentation I cannot see how
this is done.

I was hoping to use a gps disciplined xo with a 10 Mhz output as the
external reference ...

[Elecraft] k3 external reference

2007-08-01 Thread stephen pearce
Hi

Are all oscillators in the K3 tied to the 10 mhz external reference input.
that is .. if I drive the external reference input with a high
stability reference,
am I assured of the same stability in all apects of the transceiver.

Also, what are the signal level requirements for the external
reference to reliable drive that
input.

Thanks

[Elecraft] cold/power on/ transmit on/pa hot! software glitch?

2004-08-30 Thread Stephen Pearce

After a month of so of minimal use my elecrafter k2 .. with
the 100 pa has started to act oddly when powered on
The transceiver goes immediately to a mode with the pa
fan on and says it is over hot ...
if I tune then the fan powers down and the transceiver behaves itself.

I suspect this might be a software issue with the
detection of temp by the pa thermistor ..
has anyone else had similar experience and
can anyone suggest a fix?

Thanks
