[Elecraft] KX3 - The rectangular hole on the back of KX3

2012-07-05 Thread Ruchan Ozatay, TA2AH
Hi everybody,
I have KX3-F with Serial #029.
I have also the same question; what is the empty rectangular hole on the
back of my KX3 which I can see the inside of the KX3 clearly?
Is my KX3 missing the rear heat sink? Do I need to do something for that?

[Elecraft] K3/100 Audio level problem

2010-10-03 Thread ta2ah
?Hi ,

I am getting low audio level from my K3/100. When I turn AF button to full
clockwise I am getting nearly the 10% of the normal audio level in that
position.

I did hard-reset to my K3/100, I reloaded the latest firmware again but nothing
changed.

All the other functions of my K3/100 seems OK, except the audio level which is
to low.

What can I do to solve this problem? Can any one help me?

In the mean time I found the AF Knob (Concentric Shaft, Small) as broken (I
don't know why).

[Elecraft] Need Help PROBLEM SEAMS SOLVED!!!

2009-10-09 Thread TA2AH
Dear All ( Gary, Matt, Alan and others),

Thank you for your kind responses.

Last night, after reading e-mails, I have carefully checked the problem again,
and I saw that, problem was disappeared when I press the top of the front
panel, and it did not repeat until I went to the bed.

I will continue to check it to find out if the problem will repeat or not, also
this whole weekend (Saturday and Sunday). This Saturday I will take it to our
local club for demonstration.

I have a strong feeling that I did a mistake when I connect the front panel for
the first time. I didn't see any problem until today because I didn't open the
radio until the last installations. Anyway, I will remove the front panel and
reinstall it carefully one more time.

Sorry for the band-wide.

[Elecraft] Help needed!

2009-10-08 Thread TA2AH
G'day,

This is Ruchan (TA2AH) from Istanbul-Turkey.

A strange behavior started on my K3 (Serial #1230).

I build a K3-10W with antenna tuner nearly 1.5 years ago, and I used it until
today without any problem.

Recently, I have ordered a KPA3 for K3/10 after a while a KXV3A option.

When I installed KPA3 option my K3 worked without any problem.

After a while, I also installed KXV3A option and a strange problem started.

K3 is working but the display characters become unreadable (strange characters
with no meening) time to time by itself or when I press one of the front panel
buttons.

Please check the attache picture.

It becomes normal by itself, or when I touch some of the front panel buttons
again.

Any idea!!

Any help would be appreciated.

[Elecraft] K1-2040

2005-06-12 Thread ta2ah-2
Hi all,

I am now building RF Boar, Part I. I have to install ceramic trimmer capacitors
(C13 and C20). The flattened side must be oriented towards the flattened side
of the component outline, but the outline on my board is not clear enough.

Can some one help me to find which side of the component outline is flattened?

I'm afraid I agree for the most part here. There isn't anything of
interest about 80 khz
from lower band edge. That will probably shrink if the bandwidth
plans are

implemented anyway as far as CW is concerned.
If you are in a contest and have the selectivity ratcheted down to 200 Hz,
even with the
80 khz. coverage the tuning gets a bit touchy at times. I can't imagine
WHY I'd want to

tune a 150 Khz segment with a CW only rig anyway!
My only complaint about my beloved K1 is the RIT tuning is rather touchy
and
can be critical to set. Again especially so with the narrowest
selectivity in.
use! Been thinking of reducing the range of the RIT tuning as I VERY
rarely

work with a DX offset more than a couple of khz at most.

| Once again, different strokes...
|
| My K1 is primarily a portable radio. At home, I can get WWV on the K2.
In
| the field, I already have a watch. If the watch craps out, I'll ask
someone.
| Gaining WWV is not worth giving up slower tuning on the portion of 30m
where

| I find most CW. My main interest on 30m is county hunting anyway so I'm
| pretty much 10.114-10.116 anyway.
|
| There are more stations from 7000-7050 than I could ever work, but I
| appreciate the slower tuning for that part of the band.
|
| When 15 is open, there are more stations than I can work from 21000 to
| 21060, and very often nothing above it, at least none that I can hear
from
| this location. Again, the slower tuning for a smaller, more populated
part

| of the band is useful to me.
|
| The idea of crossband has never occurred to me as something I would want
to
| do. I can't see the appeal. Likewise, I never use split frequencies so I
use
| the XIT button for SPOT and reduced the range of RIT so it would be
useful

| for me for minor received tone corrections.
|
| We have different operating styles and preferences, thus different

| Certainly there is some use in this ITU region, where 7100 to 7150 kHz

contests

| is wasting good RF energy, 21100 to 21170 kHz provides a haven for Morse

|
| I also built for 10.1 mhz as most of the useful QRP activity seems to

time

[Elecraft] Help needed

2004-10-23 Thread ta2ah
Hi,

My K2 serial number is 4288 with all options installed, except 100 Watts module.

When Antenna 2 is selected without any antenna connected to it, I push to tune
button to try to tune it on 7Mhz band three times. Now there is not any output
on 7 Mhz and only 3 watts output on 10 Mhz.

but receive is OK on bought frequencies.

K2 works perfectly on the other bands (I am using SCG 237 antenna coupler when
I use it at my home).

How can I correct this? Any comment would be appreciated.

[Elecraft] KX1-0156 is on sale

2004-08-19 Thread ta2ah
Hi,

I have built KX1 (0156) at first and I love it very much.

A very short time later I build K2 (4288) which became my primary transceiver
know, beside my FT-857 and TS-870.

I am planning to add KPA-100 option to it know.

I am not using my KX1 any more because of my disabilities, therefore I would
like to sell my KX1 (including KXB30, KXPD1 and KXAT1 options and all the
manuals) to finance the KPA-100 option for my K2.

KX1 and its options are in very good condition and work according to their
specifications. Toroids have been wounded by Mychael, AA3WF.

I can ship the any where in the world via UPS, DHL or similar way. The shipment
cost will be paid by me, therefore I am asking
420 USD for them.

If any one interested in please let me know through my e-mail ([EMAIL

[Elecraft] PLL linearization

2004-06-12 Thread ta2ah
Hi Gary,

PLL linearization is completed in this morning after removing and re-soldering
PLL reference oscillator temperature compensation PCB and U4.

When I do the PLL range test pressing BAND- then BAND+ the voltage at pin 1 of
U6 were 5.1mV and 7.67V (OK).
RFC15 show 8.2 Ohms of resistance which is (OK).
Pin 16 of U4 is 4.95V (OK).
VFO works on all bands and passes the VCO voltage tests on R30 at the min and
max frequencies shown in the manual.
CAL PLL worked with the counter probe inserted in TP1.
T5 is OK
I adjust L34 selecting CW mod and FL4 with the weak birdie near 7.0MHz.
Voltage from U5 outpin pin 7 change slowly when I tuned the VFO (OK).
I have checked SCK, SDO and DAC2CS connections which are OK.

It seams that everything are OK know.

I have three other questions at this moment:

1) Receiver works but the signals are very weak. XG1 1uV and 50uV signal heard
but S-Meter did not show S9 in 50uV. S-meter calibration done before. When I
connect N-gen no noise heard. Is this normal at this step.
2) I red 3.75 volt on U10 pin 14 and pin 1 of RP6. Is this OK.
3) Where I have keep P7 jumper on INT or EXT?

I think I can start assembly, Part II.

Thank Gary, Wayne for your immediate respons.
