[Elecraft] K3 Freq Readout
Hi David, What you and others told me is fine. However, I use the RIT control for large freq excursions and very seldom use [FINE]/COARSE hold method. The [RATE] /LOCK push button is a cycling switch. Tap once for slow rate and tap again for high rate etc etc. So, what I wood like, if possible, is to know which rate is selected, after being side tracked here in the shack, without having to find out by turning the main dial or by punching the button again to see which digit will be flickering. So, my request is to find out how if it is possible to change the freq readout so that in slow rate, the display would show up to 10Hz readout and fast rate only up to 100Hz readout, similar to the COARSE mode, but alternates between fast and slow tuning rate. Thank you for the thoughts 73 Vidi - ZS1EL __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3 Freq Readout
Hi guys I would like to know if there is a way I can set the frequency readout to NOT show hundreds of cycles (the last digit) when in fast tuning mode like in the K2? This would be dandy. [Elecraft] Virtual second RX
Hi Elecrafters I need electronics boffins to answer my question: Do you think it will be possible to feed VFO A audio to left headphone and when switching to VFO B it will be heard in the right headphone?? I do not have the necessary insight to answer that one myself, but was wondering if it could be done. The reason for wondering about this is: If it was possible, one could have the K3 firmware, VERY rapidly, push the REV button for you. That way you will hear VFO A in one ear and B (taking very rapid turns) in the other and when you transmit, the VFO A will be your TX freq. This will be a 'virtual' second RX to easily find the freq of the last station worked in a DX pile up. I use the 'REV' button extensively to do that. 73 Vidi - ZS1EL __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] SQ MAIN
Hi James Thank you very much for pointing out the "Tap 1" for selecting SQL=ALL.. I could never figure out how to use SQ in modes other than FM and still cannot find it in the manual. But now I know and works great while waiting for a sked to come up on a noisy HF band :^) 73 and thanks again Vidi - ZS1EL __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] VFO OFS
Hi Elecrafters I like the VFO OFS function for quick, large VFO A excursions very much. But I have to be so careful because it has happened a few times that while maneuvering VFO A and VFO B for delicate SPLIT settings, I accidentally bump the RIT knob and kepoi I have to start all over again. This is being plain clumsy but there might be a very elegant solution if the RIT knob could have a TAP= QSY feature similar the P3 'SELECT' knob. [Elecraft] P3 ghost signal?
I noticed that on 17.6792mHz there is a strange ghost signal visible on the P3. As I tune over it, it moves in the opposite direction to VFO dialing direction! I turned everything off in the shack and also selected the dummy load but it is still there. This ghost signal is not audible on the K3 and only shows up as a 'signal on the P3. I wonder if it is only my P3 that does this. [Elecraft] K3 extras
Hi Bill, I found myself in very much the position you described. I operate DX on CW most of the time and sort of semi serious contesting but no skimmer or other assistance. So, with limited hobby funds available I had to decide, 2nd RX or P3. I argued that adding the visual dimension to a band is much more important than a second RX at this stage. I found in the past when I had 2 complete contest stations running that the listening to one rig on the left and the other on the right, or even switching between the 2 was fine but man is that exhausting and would ware me out before long. The stress on the sense of hearing was just too much and VERY fatiguing.. I ordered my P3 middle July and expect delivery towards end of Sep - - and am very excited. The A/B and REV feature of the K3 is more than sufficient to work split pile ups etc. Remember that there is a requirement to have the KXV3A installed and also the resistor swop on the main board. I did both in preparation for the P3. The resistor swap was a bit tricky, but with a LOW wattage, very sharp tipped soldering iron and a good magnifier, worked out fine. I did not shatter the existing resistor with side cutters to remove it. Instead I used an Exacto knife tip under one end of the resistor while heating and it let go, did the other end and was left with 2 clean pads for receiving the new SM component. To hold the replacement in position for soldering I used a 'third hand' and a modified spring out of a ball pen. I bent the spring so that it had a point facing down, which held the new resistor in place for soldering. [Elecraft] K2 goes wild on 40m - - need advice
Elecrafters, I bought a K2 already built up from a friend while on a trip to the USA. It is serial number 1008. It is stable on all bands except on 40m where it breaks into oscillation as soon as I start sending CW, even with the power output set to a very low level. I would appreciate advice from any K2 owner who has experience of this problem and could help me rectify it. 73 Vidi - ZS1EL __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Split reminder
Hi DX chasers In chasing DX have been caught napping a few times, when I forgot to select 'split' and had to be reminded by someone on the DX freq about the blunder. I was wondering if there is a way to more clearly show that 'split' is activated. How about, in addition to the TX arrow pointing to B, also flash the [B] VFO sign at say 2/sec to show and remind that 'split' is active. [Elecraft] K3 monitor control
Hi Elecrafters: I am a relatively new K3 user and operate 90% CW and the rest SSB and PSK. I note that the monitor level for CW and SSB can be adjusted independently, which is fine. On CW I always use headphones. But when I operate SSB, I sometimes use headphones and sometimes a loudspeaker. When using headphones I like monitoring the audio by turning up the monitor to a comfortable level. When unplugging the headphones I wish the monitor would turn off to prevent audio feed back. Alternatively I wonder if, a second, quick push of the knob could turn off the monitor without having to turn the level to 0. Turning it on would be the same quick second push by which the monitor level would return to the level it was set to, before switching off. [Elecraft] K3 > FL-7000
Hello Elecraft fundis: I am looking for advice on how to have my FL-7000 follow the bands of my K3, serial number 3150. The FL-7000 has a cubical shaped 9-pin plug which is keyed but and I have no idea how the pins are numbered. "K3 to FL-7000 for dummies" would be much appreciated. [Elecraft] VFO/ split
Good day Elecraft gang: I have just completed my K3/100 and am preparing for the IARU contest this weekend.
