Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Odd transmit power output behavior on TX DATA
I figured out why it takes so much gain. Somewhere along the line, I switched sounds cards and I was outputting to the wrong channel. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Odd transmit power output behavior on TX DATA
My knowledge is from being a windows user. In windows when running audio type digital modes there are 3 points of adjustment. The sound card gain, the software gain and the line in gaim. On some external sound cards there is also a pot to adjust one the sound card, that makes 4points. And there seems to be a sweet spot where they all work together and the power pops right up there and other settings where it comes up gradually, for me that seems to disappear after a transmission or two. And it might take an adjustment of one or more olf the settings to correct. Especially after a windows update. When I installed the USB board I thought maybe that would clear up, and maybe it did a bit, but I still have to tweak the settings now and then. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Odd transmit power output behavior on TX DATA
Well, I’ve half-way figured it out. I increased the LINE gain to the point where I can get 4-5 ALC bars, and now I get plenty of power right away. Still trying to figure out why it takes so much gain, but I’ll puzzle that out given time. It could be a momentary high SWR when starting a transmission because of some slow switching somewhere in line. In K3 Config, try increasing the value of Tx Dly. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Odd transmit power output behavior on TX DATA
And old familiar problem. Re-do the TX gain calibration. Some of the trimmers in the BPFs are known to change value over time. Some of the ones in my K3S had to be replaced. Then make sure you have enough audio drive to achieve the "4-5 bars" requirement. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Odd transmit power output behavior on TX DATA
Bill, You need to do a TX calibration and see if that solves the problem. The first thing you should do when you encounter varying power output is do a TX calibration. The second thing to check for on digital modes is the audio levels to make sure they have not changed. They may have been changed inadvertently. Even if you say to yourself "I haven't changed a thing" check it anyway. Both of these have solved these kinds of problems for me in the past. 73, Mark, WB9CIF -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of Bill Coleman via Elecraft Sent: Friday, December 30, 2022 16:46 To: Joe Subich, W4TV Cc: Elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Odd transmit power output behavior on TX DATA All bands.
