Re: [Elecraft] [k3] Mic Gain: Option 7

2014-03-13 Thread bill conkling
Yes the ref to 3 is a long overdue edit. I have used 7 to work with my Heil
HM12 in front panel. Was unaware it doesn't work for rear jack. CM500 plugged
in there, no need.

Re: [Elecraft] [k3] Mic Gain: Option 7

2014-03-13 Thread Sam Morgan

Page 20 K3 Owner's man D10.pdf

MIC
MONO; hi- or low-Z
This jack accommodates an electret or dynamic
mic. Use MAIN:MIC SEL to select the rear panel
mic (RP). Tap 1 to turn on Low or High mic gain
range. Tap 2 to turn bias on/off (see pg. 28 for
recommendations based on mic type).
For the front-panel mic only, additional microphone
gain can be enabled by tapping 3 . Use this only for
very low-output mics.

page 52 K3 Owner's man D10.pdf
MIC SEL
Mic/line transmit audio source, mic gain range, and mic bias. Source
selections:
FP (front panel 8-pin MIC jack), RP (rear panel 3.5 mm MIC jack), and
LINE IN
(rear-panel LINE IN jack). Tap 1 to toggle between .Low and .High mic
gain range
for the selected mic. Tap 2 to turn mic BIAS on/off (turn on for
electret mics).
For the front-panel mic only, tap 3 to turn on an additional gain stage.
Use this only

with very low-output mics. An apostrophe will appear after the H, e.g. H’ .

only place I find tap 7 in the manual is under FLx BW on pg 55
also mentioned on pg 24

however when in the MIC SEL menu for the front panel mic
taping 3 gives a N/A result

taping 7 *WILL* give the desired mic boost for the front panel mic

taping 3 or 7 gives a N/A when rear mic is selected

I just checked in the ERRATA for the K3 Owners manual and it's not there
either

looks like there needs to be an editing job in the manual ;-)

[Elecraft] [k3] Mic Gain: Option 7

2014-03-12 Thread John
I'm trying to setup a set a Radio Sport headset, with the M350 Electret
microphone. The mic is connected to the K3 rear panel mic jack. The
Arlan instructions recommend using "Option 7" for +10 DB of additional
Mic Pre-amp gain for close-talk mics.

How do you set "Option 7"? What menu is it in?

Thanks,
