[Elecraft] Building a KX1

2009-03-13 Thread Ron Bower
I posted a question yesterday but it did not seem to go through - the
message was blank in the digest list.

I believe I have found my answer but wanted to post again just as a test to
see if I can actually post when/if I need help.

Thanks and 73,

Ron, AC2C

Re: [Elecraft] Building a KX1

2009-03-13 Thread Ron Bower
Okay... I have ordered a KX1 with the ATU, paddle, and 30/80 board and was
wondering if there was a recommended order for construction.

I was finally able to find some older messages that seemed to run almost
unanimous to proceed with the KX1 basic kit first, then add the options one
at a time. I did see that I could mount L6 on the opposite side of the PC
board in anticipation of the 30/80 board, but otherwise should just follow
the manual and complete the KX1.

So... That was it, and it didn't seem necessary to repost and get flamed for
not having research enough.

But, now that it's out there... Does anyone have any suggestions for me ?

I'm expecting the package to arrive next Tuesday.

Re: [Elecraft] Building a KX1

2009-03-13 Thread Don Wilhelm
Ron,

Yes, you have the order of things correct. If you are a very
experienced builder and have great confidence in your ability to make
things work the first time through without interim testing, then you can
integrate the KX1 and the KXB3080, but I would not recommend that for
the first time through.

If you do want to try it, you could build the KX1 without installing L7,
C1, C26 and C27.
Then follow the KXB3080 instructions *only* through page 4.
At that point, you may test the KX1 on 40 and 20 meters.
Once that combination is aligned working well, start on page 5 of the
KXB3080 manual and finish it.

One more note - do *not* add the KX1 Power Mod (included with the
KXB3080 kit) unless your KX1 is not capable of producing 3.5 watts with
a 13.8 volt power supply (3 watts with a 12 volt supply). Most of the
KX1s with the newer PA transistor do not need the power mod, and running
much over 4 watts for a period of time can damage the components in the
PA output circuit.

[Elecraft] Building a KX1 kit

2005-06-17 Thread Michael Donna Heit
Greetings to the list,

I have been given the privilege to build a KX1 for a friend of mine and will be
monitoring this list for hints, suggestions, etc. for the build. Two years ago
I built a K2 kit and was very pleased with the results and look forward to
building this kit.
The serial number is 00920, and includes the KXPD1, KXB30, AND THE KXAT1
options.
