Yes Dave
When Eric and I were working on my K4D #76 long ago, he was using the
following:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VXNN2D3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8=1
They no longer make it, but the display was crisp and clear.
I would recommend one something like it at any time.
And yes, I redid the cabling also

Yes, it requires use of one of the K4 USB ports. It comes with three
cables, a USB C to A that you connect to the K4. A USB C to C that you plug
into the supplied wall wart for power and a HDMI to mini HDMI used to
connect to the K4 video output.

The touchscreen works FB especially when the external monitor is mapped to
mirror the K4 screen. But a change to an upcoming beta release of the K4
software allows the touchscreen to work when the external monitor is mapped
as a panadapter allowing you to select desired signals on the screen and
QSY the K4.

Eric also found some right angle connectors so that the cables look much
neater plugged into the screen on the sides while resting on top of the K4.
I was going to use this setup at the Huntsville Hamfest this weekend before
we decided to pull out due to the Covid situation there. (I work part-time
for Elecraft).

Can you comment on what you had to do in order to use this external
monitor as a touch screen. My assumption is that it requires one of the
K4 USB ports, does the K4 automatically recognize the touch screen?

Appreciate any comments as W9RCS is soon to receive his K4D and has been
wanting to use the external monitor with touch screen functionality.
