Not trying to start another thread here, but here is just ONE example of why 
Elecraft continues to use the RS-232 I/O.  Gee, Win7 has been out quite a 
while.

Hi John,

 

I should have identified that I am using Windows 7 x64 as the operating
system; officially ICOM has not released USB drivers for Windows 7 as of
this email. Hopefully the level issue will be addressed with the new
release.
