Re: [Elecraft] Is KX3 going obsolete soon?

2023-07-19 Thread David Herring
TU Mark…yeah...I didn’t remember that at first…well, one learns (or re-learns)
something new everyday…

The KX2 came out around 2016, and the KX3 around 2011, if I am remembering
correctly now.

Anyhow, the point of that (mis)statement was to say that while there may be a
new rig on the drawing board, we don’t really know, a new rig doesn’t
necessarily mean an older one is going away. This being offered in response to
the ongoing question, posed by others - not me, of whether the KX3 is going to
be end-of-life’d soon.

Re: [Elecraft] Is KX3 going obsolete soon?

2023-07-19 Thread Mark Musick
Hi Dave,
The KX2 came out after the KX3.
They are two different platforms aimed at two different markets. The KX2 is
80-10 meters only with an internal ATU. The KX3 is 160-2 meters (with the
internal transverter) and internal ATU with optional PX3.
Elecraft points this out on their website.
From their website see below.

KX2 vs KX3: Which one should I buy? Learn More
https://elecraft.com/pages/kx2-vs-kx3-which-one-should-i-buy

There never was any intention of one replacing the other.

I agree. It’s like on air: no politics, no religion.

(BTW: I myself never feel offended when in a QSO or a face-to-face conversation

I’m sure you were trying to be funny, but that’s a racist statement and not at
all humorous. Poking fun at an accent isn’t acceptable.

Yes, and if business trends are true…short line, discontinuing products, not
being able to keep up with new products, shortage of parts, that equals a
perfect opportunity for a Chinese company to come in and buy them with a new
name of ELECLAFT.

Things become obsolete when replacement parts and/or service are no
longer available.  It tends to happen suddenly, often accompanied by the
release of smoke.

Since it is used by the very popular KAT500 I doubt it will be
discontinued any time soon.  You might want to fact-check before posting

I noticed elecraft has discontinued selling the KXUSB cable! I have one so
I don't need it but my more important question: Is this a sign
Elecraft is planning
to replace the KX3 in the near future? I'm sure they've been working on a
replacement and as they sell off inventory will a replacement come soon?

I love my KX3 but it gets very little use these days..

I think you are most likely wrong about that.  Elecraft is quite
obviously paring down their line of products and the lower end of the
scale is just about gone.

I’m reasonably convinced the KX3 will still be a part of our future.
