Re: [Elecraft] K3 Diversity RX question

2020-08-03 Thread Dale Boresz
Jim,

With BOTH 'Split' and 'Diversity' engaged, you will only be able to listen
to VFO-A, although VBO-B WILL be your transmit frequency. In other words,
you will be listening to the DX on VFO-A with full benefits of Diversity.
However, you can press and hold the "REV" button on the K3 which will swap
the VFO A/B frequencies, at which point you will be hearing the pileup in
full diversity and your VFO-A cursor will change to your XMIT frequency.
You will tune through the pileup with your main VFO (VFO-A) to figure out
where you want to transmit, and when you release the "REV" button you will
again be listening to the DX station on VFO-A but you'll notice that your
P3 VFO-B cursor (and TX frequency) will be wherever you placed it using the
VFO-A knob while depressing the "REV" button.

I don't claim that this is the ONLY way to accomplish this, but it is the
way I have been doing it for years. A downside is that you will not be able
to simultaneously hear the DX in one ear while hearing the pileup in the
other. This makes sense though since diversity allows you to listen via two
different antennas, with one antenna per ear. It takes a bit of practice,
but it works well.

Yes. When you use diversity you are actually not using the VFO B
synthesizer for the second rx. They are both fed from synth A. VFO B
remains available for transmitting.

I do this all the time.

When using diversity what happens to the ability to do Split on the K3?

Can I still listen to the pileup on VFO B and transmit on the VFO B
frequency?

Thanks

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Diversity RX

2016-05-06 Thread Arie Kleingeld PA3A

Ben,

Full tracking (freq, mode, filter etc) is enabled with diversity on.

Frequency tracking alone and leave the rest open, that is in the menu:
config: VFO LINK

I use them both under different circumstances, but that is not what you
are asking.

Does the KRX3 track these main RX settings when diversity is enabled?

Can this "tracking" be disabled if it is enabled by default?

Look in archives and googled for this answer, but no joy on finding answer!

[Elecraft] K3 Diversity RX

2009-09-15 Thread wb6rse1
My K3 includes the KRX3, KAT3 KXV3A.

On 160m and 80m, I use a shunt fed tower for TX/RX and a separate RX
loop that goes through an RF limiter and external preamp to RX ANT IN.
For Diversity RX, the loop has to be connected to AUX RF but it's then
not available to the Main RX. In order to have the flexibility to use
the RX loop with either the Main RX or the Sub RX for diversity, I
built a switch box to route the loop to either RX ANT IN or AUX RF. A
HOLD of the K3's RX ANT button toggles the antenna input to the Sub RX
to the correct BNC.

I considered using ANT2 on the KAT3 but it wasn't obvious that I could
achieve the same flexibility. Other solutions to allow the RX loop to
be available for both the Main RX or the Sub RX in diversity mode?

My tower and RX loop are very close. The RF limiter protects the RX
front ends from QRO. Caution! Your situation may be different.

While in diversity RX you can operate split and also check your TX
frequency with the REV button. Then use VFO A to find your spot. A
very elegant design feature!

[Elecraft] K3 Diversity Rx and antennas

2008-12-09 Thread Jeff Wandling W7BRS via K3List
I'm just waiting for the lovely lady at Elecraft to send me the gram for the
sub-rx.

In the mean time I'm contemplating the 2nd wire antenna to hoist up for
diversity Rx. My QTH is surrounded by dense trees, cedar 120+ ft tall.

Think planet Endor, ewoks, and pesky storm troopers around every corner.

Now for the 2nd wire antenna, I was envisioning a Beverage because I can run
1000' wire over 7acres in a loop within 30' off the ground without getting
snagged by the branches. Over 30' then I run into problems with very dense
branches acting as barbs in the wrong direction preventing wire from going up.

My main Tx antenna is a wire dipole at 25m cut and somewhat even on each side
for 80-20m work. I'm tempted to take it down and make a new one for 160m +
80m-20m work.

Anyway, the question is: for Diversity Rx, would a 15-25' off the ground
Beverage be suitable? Or, does diversity work best if the polarization is
opposite, -- among the variables involved with wire antennas, what variable to
I look for to increase the benefit of having diversity Rx?

Reply directly and I'll consolidate the responses here on the list.
