Re: [Elecraft] K3 memory editor
The issue I was having with the Elecraft Frequency Memory Editor has now been resolved, thanks to a suggestion by Dick, K6KR. Dick suggested using the Trace option to see if I could capture where the stall was taking place. When I went to turn the Trace option on, I realised that it was already on, so decided to firstly test the Editor with Trace turned off. Bingo! All works as expected with no stalling. Having only just used the Editor for the first time, I did not realise that the Trace window is does not show in normal operation. The Editor still stalls with Trace on, but this may be normal. I’m not aware whether Trace is on by default when the program is installed, probably not, but it got turned on somehow! I hope my experience will provide a fix for others who have experienced a similar ‘issue’. Once again, this proves that the choice of Elecraft is the best there can be. Where else do you get a direct reply from the author of the software within hours? Thanks Dick for taking time out of your busy schedule. I know you didn’t actually have to fix anything, but if you’d not made the suggestion about using Trace, it may have taken me many hours to find the problem. 73, Alan. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor and EXCEL Spreadsheet
There is a way to move a group of lines with the K3 Memory Editor grid. You can use this to insert a blank line (as well as more involved moving). Select (at the left margin) the line you want to empty and the lines below. Press CTRL-X to cut the selected lines. Cut copies to the clipboard and deletes. Select the desired target line, and then press CTRL+V to paste the clipboard contents into the target line (and its successors, using the length of the clipboard). This is what I meant by Cut, copy and paste operate on selected rows under the Edit Menu topic in the admittedly sparse K3 Frequency Memory Editor Help page. You can use the keyboard cut paste shortcuts CTRL+X and CTRL+V, or right click the selected rows for a context menu that includes cut and paste, and there are cut/copy/paste items on the Edit menu at the top of the dialog. 73 de Dick, K6KR -Original Message- From: Bob Jeter [mailto:bobje...@verizon.net] Sent: Monday, September 03, 2012 9:33 AM To: Dick Dievendorff Subject: Re: K3 Memory Editor and EXCEL Spreadsheet Thanks Dick, You are right abt the tags and it was driving me nuts! It provides a tree view of the XML file, and the ability to make and save changes. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905339.aspx I'm using the 2007 version, but it's been updated: http://www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl37369/Microsoft_XML_Notepad.htm There may be other XML editors better suited to the task than either Excel or XML Notepad. I found it easy to use the K3 Frequency Memory Editor's grid control to make changes. I have been trying to use the K3 Memory Editor but am having a problem with it when trying to set the Repeater Offset on 50 MHz (6 meters) to +0.5 (as it is in the UK). Re: [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor software application version 1.0.102.0 (4/12 version)
Dick, I just installed the latest and greatest. I may have missed something, but I see no problem with tabbing about the grid. It behaves exactly like I would expect a Windows control to do. Clicking the 'button' on the left end of a row selects the row, and highlights it. Clicking the the cursor anywhere else does NOT select the row, assuming your grid control is set to highlight if a row is selected. Pressing the TAB key moves the selection/focus from cell to cell horizontally. When it reaches the end of a row, it drops to the next row. I don't have any xverters, so maybe I'm not seeing what some others saw. Win XP SP3. 73, Mike NF4L Dick Dievendorff wrote: I have most of these on a list. [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor (PC application): looking for testers
Hi all, Our PC software engineer, Dick (K6KR--not to be confused with N6KR :) has completed the first release of the K3 Frequency Memory Editor. It is Windows-only at present, but we hope to provide Mac and Linux versions in the future. This application helps you maintain your K3's frequency memories using a spreadsheet-like editor. It handles all regular memories (00-99) and, optionally, per-band quick-memories (M1-M4 for each band). Once you've sent the data to the K3, you can recall memories using either the MV switch on the K3's front panel, or the editor's QSY buttons. You can even save sets of memories in PC files and share them with other K3 users. This might be useful for setting up multiple K3s for a contest, etc. At present the spreadsheet allows display/edit of VFO A and B frequencies and modes, repeater offsets and tones, the 5-character memory label, and a larger description field. Unused (blank) memories can be hidden or displayed. We'll add more data fields in future releases, along with cut/paste capability. If you're interested in testing this early release of the memory editor, please email me directly (n6kr at elecraft dot com). To use it, you'll also need to install the latest field-test K3 firmware, which I'll send you, along with full instructions and release notes. 73, Wayne N6KR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
