Re: [Elecraft] K3 memory editor

2017-06-25 Thread G4GNX
The issue I was having with the Elecraft Frequency Memory Editor has now been
resolved, thanks to a suggestion by Dick, K6KR.

Dick suggested using the Trace option to see if I could capture where the stall
was taking place. When I went to turn the Trace option on, I realised that it
was already on, so decided to firstly test the Editor with Trace turned off.
Bingo! All works as expected with no stalling.

Having only just used the Editor for the first time, I did not realise that the
Trace window is does not show in normal operation. The Editor still stalls with
Trace on, but this may be normal. I’m not aware whether Trace is on by default
when the program is installed, probably not, but it got turned on somehow!

I hope my experience will provide a fix for others who have experienced a
similar ‘issue’.

Once again, this proves that the choice of Elecraft is the best there can be.
Where else do you get a direct reply from the author of the software within
hours?

Thanks Dick for taking time out of your busy schedule. I know you didn’t
actually have to fix anything, but if you’d not made the suggestion about using
Trace, it may have taken me many hours to find the problem.

Alan. G4GNX

I realise that it's only two of us so far, but I suspect it's a bug.

Hopefully, Elecraft will fix it.

read memories 85 thru 99 is to ‘select’ them first, then read selected.
Attempting to read any empty memory individually results in the function
stalling.

I also tried clearing a single memory entry and uploading it to the K3,
which seems to work OK, but attempting to read it back, results in a
stall.

Is this normal behavior – a bug, or do I have an old or corrupted memory
editor.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor and EXCEL Spreadsheet

2012-09-03 Thread Dick Dievendorff
There is a way to move a group of lines with the K3 Memory Editor grid. You
can use this to insert a blank line (as well as more involved moving).

Select (at the left margin) the line you want to empty and the lines below.
Press CTRL-X to cut the selected lines. Cut copies to the clipboard and
deletes.

Select the desired target line, and then press CTRL+V to paste the
clipboard contents into the target line (and its successors, using the
length of the clipboard).

This is what I meant by Cut, copy and paste operate on selected rows under
the Edit Menu topic in the admittedly sparse K3 Frequency Memory Editor Help
page.

You can use the keyboard cut paste shortcuts CTRL+X and CTRL+V, or right
click the selected rows for a context menu that includes cut and paste, and
there are cut/copy/paste items on the Edit menu at the top of the dialog.

The underlying K3 Frequency Memory XML file is a tree structure. The
K3 Frequency Memory Editor does display it as a two-dimensional table

I've used XML Notepad 2007 (a free download) to change XML documents
without altering their tags. It provides a tree view of the XML

There may be other XML editors better suited to the task than either

I found it easy to use the K3 Frequency Memory Editor's grid control

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor running under Wine/Linux?

2011-12-14 Thread Leigh L. Klotz Jr WA5ZNU
You need to edit .wine/system.reg file to tell it about the serial ports.
I've used heather3 (a Thunderbolt GPS-DO monitor) with USB RS232 and it
works FB once you do this.

Here's a random post I found that describes it, but there are a lot of
places that have the workaround.

[Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor running under Wine/Linux?

2011-12-10 Thread Larry J on Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop
Any one successfully running the K3 Memory Editor under Wine in Linux?

I installed winetricks (http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks) and the Memory
Editor program appears to function (Spreadsheet like user interface appears)
but the Memory Editor program then never picks up my symbolic links to the com
ports. The error message reports that The PortName cannot be empty when I
attempt Read from K3. The drop down com port selector is blank even though
my ~/.wine/dosdevices has the suggested symbolic links:

lj@lian2:~./wine/dosdevices ls -al com1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 lj lj 2011-12-10 10:35 com1 - /dev/ttyS0

My attempts were made under Ubuntu Linux 10.04 and Wine 1.2.2. Thanks for any
help.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor running under Wine/Linux?

2011-12-10 Thread Dick Dievendorff
The .Net framework and Windows versions of the Elecraft Utilities discover Com
ports through registry key/values defined for this purpose. Drivers install
their names there in Windows. I'm away from my code, and don't recall the exact
key but the key has HARDWARE and SERIALCOMM in it. Try this link for the
technique

I've never had success with serial ports in Wine although it has been
some time since I tried. Several months ago on another list someone
reported the later beta releases of Wine will work with built-in serial
ports such as yours, but not with USB to serial adapters that I use.

You may wish to give the later Wine 1.3 releases a try:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa

Unfortunately, I think the Wine developers main focus is on office apps
and games, not hardware access such as serial ports.

[Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor

2010-12-14 Thread David Pratt
I have been trying to use the K3 Memory Editor but am having a problem
with it when trying to set the Repeater Offset on 50 MHz (6 meters) to
+0.5 (as it is in the UK). Reading from my K3, the Offset field in the
editor is blank. If I enter +0.5 there and then send it to the K3 it
sets my K3 to +0.6.

Is the Repeater Offset on 6 meters +0.6 in the USA? If so, can a +0.5
offset provision be made in the Memory Editor please?

David,

The 6M repeater offsets here in the US are either 1.0 or 1.6 MHZ. There are
exceptions, but not many. A duplexer for only a .5 MHZ frequency separation

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Memory Editor software application version 1.0.102.0 (4/12 version)

2010-04-14 Thread Mike
Dick,
I just installed the latest and greatest. I may have missed something,
but I see no problem with tabbing about the grid. It behaves exactly
like I would expect a Windows control to do.

Clicking the 'button' on the left end of a row selects the row, and
highlights it. Clicking the the cursor anywhere else does NOT select the
row, assuming your grid control is set to highlight if a row is selected.

Pressing the TAB key moves the selection/focus from cell to cell
horizontally. When it reaches the end of a row, it drops to the next row.

I don't have any xverters, so maybe I'm not seeing what some others saw.

has completed the first release of the K3 Frequency Memory Editor. It
is Windows-only at present, but we hope to provide Mac and Linux
versions in the future.

This application helps you maintain your K3's frequency memories using
a spreadsheet-like editor. It handles all regular memories (00-99)
and, optionally, per-band quick-memories (M1-M4 for each band). Once
you've sent the data to the K3, you can recall memories using either
the MV switch on the K3's front panel, or the editor's QSY buttons.
You can even save sets of memories in PC files and share them with
other K3 users. This might be useful for setting up multiple K3s for a
contest, etc.

At present the spreadsheet allows display/edit of VFO A and B
frequencies and modes, repeater offsets and tones, the 5-character
memory label, and a larger description field. Unused (blank) memories
can be hidden or displayed. We'll add more data fields in future
releases, along with cut/paste capability.

If you're interested in testing this early release of the memory
editor, please email me directly (n6kr at elecraft dot com). To use
it, you'll also need to install the latest field-test K3 firmware,
which I'll send you, along with full instructions and release notes.

73,
Wayne
N6KR

This could be pretty handy for us to pass around memory files for 6m
indicators
