Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Main Power - ON 24/7/365?
Hi Jack, I've had both my KAT500 and KPA500 powered on 24/7 for the last several years, as I operate them remotely from my second home in Texas. The KPA500's AC power is connected through a dedicated line, surge protector and battery backup. The KAT500, which is DC powered, is connected to an Astron RS-35M, which is on a dedicated line, surge protector and battery backup. As Tony, N2TK, stated, they need to be powered on if wanting to run remotely. 73 de Jim - KE8G On Tue, Oct 20, 2020 at 8:27 AM N2TK via Elecraft wrote: > Hi John, > Both my KPA500 and KPA1500 are on a shelf in the basement, literally right > under my feet. While I have not settled on anything, I am looking at remote controlled high power handling relays. Not saying that they are needed in this situation, but they are an option. Then you could leave the power switches on, close the relay, and use remote software to turn them on. If you are remote already, you prolly have the capability. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Main Power - ON 24/7/365?
Hi John, Both my KPA500 and KPA1500 are on a shelf in the basement, literally right under my feet. The last time I shut them off was when I went to KP2M last February. If the power switch isn't on I can't tun them on from Elecraft's remote software. Is there any harm in leaving the KPA500 rear MAIN Power Switch ‘ON', 24/7/365? (not the front panel power button). I have done that with my KPA500 at the home station with no problem, but wondered about doing it at the remote site? I can operate the front panel “ON” button and “OPER/STBY” switch remotely so the amp is not running full-time, just the internal power supply. 73, Jack W9JH __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to tony@verizon.net __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Main Power - ON 24/7/365?
If you leave it "on," the power supply is energized. A surge on the line could fry the unit. It happened to me with a Yaesu Quadra. k4ia, Buck K3s# 11497 Honor Roll 8B DXCC EasyWayHamBooks.com On 10/20/2020 12:16 AM, Jack W9JH wrote: Is there any harm in leaving the KPA500 rear MAIN Power Switch ‘ON', 24/7/365?
