Re: [Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card
Hi Someone pointed out that we all have different 49 MHz oscillators. I guess that many K3 owners have TCXO and thus no input for the voltage control i.e. VCXO. This pin is indicated in the KREF3 shematic as pin 1 (VCTRL) of Z1. My KTCXO3-1 did not have this pin and could not be used vith the reference PLL so I had to replace it with a VCXO. *The design of the PLL is fairly simple and can be built on a small board plugging directly into J4. *One has to consider the resulting phase noise and spurs of the locked KREF3. *The Kref 3 must also fall back into a default mode when the extref is removed or if the PLL unlocks. I wonder if the promised optional board foor the K144XV allowing lock of the 116/118 MHz XO to the KREF3 is also cancelled ? In that case we need the K144XV shematic... Re: [Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card
Guys, Someone on the fora pointed out that we all have different 49 MHz oscillators! I guess that many K3 owners *have bought oscillators delivered without input for the voltage control* not knowing that a future locking to an external reference would *not* be possible. The KTCXO3-1 delivered to me is manufactured by *KS* Electronics (part number 1099) and pin 1 (VCTRL) is *not connected* internally. *It can´t even be used to be locked in a PLL*. Also if a PLL is to be implemented you need to specify *Kv (tuning sensitivity)* for all oscillators to be delivered to your customers in order to keep the PLL loop filter working correctly. Did you offer a solution to this when you envisioned a *“REF IN (SMA): input for future external reference”.* * * Which type of oscillator delivered by Elecraft have VCTRL connected to pin #1 ?** What is the Kv specified pin #1 is connected? Comment on this please! 73 Jan __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card
One of the reasons I chose the K3 was eventual 10-MHz ext. reference capability. Well, then I guess someone will have to come up with a 49.380 PLL circuit that uses 10-MHz as a reference. I have two such critters for mw use. One is distributed out of Israel and will be used in place of my 1152-MHz LO for 1296-MHz transverter (144-MHz IF). The other (ApolLO-A32) will replace the LO for my 3400-MHz transverter (also 144-MHz IF). Should be easier to do at lower frequencies. The new line of VHF/UHF transverters from DEMI will have ext. ref. option available in the future. It is already available on their mw line (2.3-GHz and up). 73, Ed - KL7UW -- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 09 Jun 2010 12:49:16 -0400 From: elecr...@g4fre.com Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Message-ID: S364279Ab0FIQtQ/20100609164916z+25...@ams003.ftl.affinity.com Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=iso-8859-1 This question is one I have been asking annually at the Elecraft booth at Hamcom in Dallas for the last 2 years. One of the reasons I chose the K3 was eventual 10-MHz ext. reference capability. Hopefully, it's still on the table for development and not permanently shelved. I can certainly understand the need to prioritize other K3 features and accessories before producing the external 10 MHz Reference module. Re: [Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card
Hi Julian The ADAT web page has not been updated in 2 years. Their marketing is almost non existent. One would assume it is just an experimental platform like HPSDR. Who is really going to sink 6000 dollars into an experimental project? After the German magazine review identified spurious products in the receiver, not much has been heard from ADAT since. I expect that the ADAT transceiver will fall apart just like the Hilberling project did. Its a pity that this fine transceiver will not make it to the marketplace. I certainly wanted to buy one.
