2m is nice, but I'm with Frank; I'd love to know if a 70cm module will also
be forthcoming. In my area, 70cm gets a lot more use than 2m.

Our post Dayton work (figuring out our Dayton order forms and building
K3s for Dayton orders etc.) has taken most of our time so far this week.
I'm out tomorrow, but we will get the order info up on Thursday first
thing for the W2 and K144XV.

Delivery for both products is planned for August. I'll post the info we
had up on these from Dayton in my next email.

2009-05-14 Thread Len, K3LJ

Eric, All of the people at Elecraft are doing a fine job. The several times
that I have called have always been a good experience, even the times that I
called with something that I overlooked and should have been able to solve
myself. Thanks to everyone out there for a quality product and fine service.

We all are eagerly waiting for the next piece of equipment to be developed
and manufactured because we know it will complement what we have in quality
as well as reliability.

Thanks again,

Regarding what comes out when - we're running as fast as we can and do
not have infinite resources. (And we're still working hard on numerous
K3 enhancements.) I'd love to have another 10-20 engineers on staff, but
I think we'll have to sell mucho more K3s for that to happen. So tell
your friends about the K3 ;-)

Some products take longer to develop than others. None of this is easy.
Believe me, we'd love to have everything people want right now.
Different engineers, with different expertises, are available for
different products. That's what frequently determines what we can get
out first. We were able to get the W2 and K144XV products out for Dayton
without delaying our K3 enhancements and other projects. We have a lot
going on on the background, so stay tuned..

As we get closer to other new products, well post here, but we do not
want to over commit and will not give dates on anything new until it is
 close.

It always amazes me how speculation on the internet gets perceived as
fact once several people repeat it. The rumor mill rarely is accurate

the transverter is pretty much a standard. The RF Concepts brick amps
are excellent, include decent preamps, and sell for moderate prices in
the used market. There are versions of these amps that will get you 170
watts with 2W, 10W, or 35W drive. The older Mirage amps (pre-Mississippi)

There are a number of amps that can work nicely with the K3 (and are

Yes. Lots of K3s are driving Ten Tec Titans, Herc IIs, and various models
of Alphas. All are capable of full QSK using the delay built into the K3.
I use a pair of K3s and Titan 425s in my shack for SO2R, and a Herc II
for portable operation. I get full output from mine with 30-50 watts.
Titans in good shape go for around $1,500 with their power supply, Herc
IIs for around $800 without a power supply (they run on 13.8V). These are
vintage amps (early 80s), well designed, transmit a clean signal, are
well documented, and are fairly easy to work on.

A future option module. It would include a PLL circuit that locks the

and a pair of jacks to allow the K144XV to be used as an IF for

So does this mean I'm going to need to start using a mike or will there be a

Who will run the 2M Elecraft net and will it be multimode?

There must be a good market for wattmeters these days in spite of the fact
that most rigs and amplifiers have internal meters. Gosh, I would have thunk
a K3-S external speaker would be an easy sell and a panadapter would blow
ICOM off the market and give Flex a run for their money.

Re: [Elecraft] Sneak Preview: New Elecraft products

2009-05-13 Thread Erik N Basilier
I have been eyeing the 2m transverter because of an old thing I have about
2m cw and ssb. Really irrational, since neither has any activity here in AZ.
My first reaction to the news was, wow, I bet the new K3 option will cost
less than the transverter, but will it have an oven option? Then when I saw
that it will depend on the K3 frequency, it looked even better. Only issue
now is I'd need a kilowatt and moonbounce to get to use it (I am not a fan
of FM), and 10 W may not be enough to drive a tube to 1 kW.

Actually this will probably get me to do some 2M activity! I liked the
 other
poster's idea of it being hidden and not likely to be considered a new
 rig.

I'll have to do some research on 2M antennas.

We've long wanted to create a really high-quality LED power/SWR meter.
This project has been in the works for quite a while, and is in fact a
superset of our W1 mini-module wattmeter. A lot more LEDs, remote

Gosh, I would have thunk a K3-S external speaker would be an easy

That's another one of my projects, and I haven't had time to finish it.
I built one prototype that looks great but still needs some acoustic
tweaks. It won't get out of my lab until it's a big improvement on the
K3's internal speaker.

 and a panadapter

This not a very kind comment.  Guess what...they are running their own

stinkin' panadapter?  I make Qs without one.  Gee, can you whiny type guys give

I much agree that a panadapter would or should have been on their priority list
rather than what they've just announced especially the wattmeter portion.

Wayne,
The new products look great. I must admit I was disappointed that both
are no soldering items. I was hoping that the wattmeter would involve
melting some solder and winding a few toroids.
I will order the wattmeter when they are available and my next K3 will
eventually have the 2 meter board. Please throw us serious builders a bone
with the next project. Sure wish I could join you at Dayton, but maybe next
year.

[Elecraft] Sneak Preview: New Elecraft products - What?

2009-05-13 Thread David and Dianne on Comcast
Lee,

IMO Steve and others are correct, not 'whiny types' at all.

I am also disappointed in their announcement.

I hoped that a K3 Panadpater and/or especially the KPA-800 had been
forthcoming.

And after reading your post, for a minute, I thought I had been
transported to the Ten Tec Reflector.

Re: [Elecraft] Sneak Preview: New Elecraft products - What?

2009-05-13 Thread Eric Swartz -WA6HHQ, Elecraft
Guys - please, no more criticisms of other's postings. We appreciate the
enthusiasm and support, but its not necessary or proper to jump on
someone for criticizing something. Its OK to disagree, but keep it civil.

The rumor mill rarely is accurate
;-) What 200W option? Wow, that one is news to me. :-)

I've been having a great time with my office K3 and K144XV on the local
2M FM repeaters. Surprised a few locals when I told them I was on a K3..
Its going to be a super option.

I am also disappointed in their announcement.

I find it hard to believe that people are actually complaining. Good
grief! :-(

There are lots of amps to buy. There's already a Panadapter
solution. But there's only one integrated 2M adapter for the K3.

I guess everyone has an opinion and an , or wishes they were a
member of the Board's Product Committee ... or at least wants to
