Have you open dconf-editor, and modified "switch-to-workspace-left" and
"switch-to-workspace-right" at "org->gnome->desktop->wm->keybindings"?

key autorepeat :( If you press Super, then Z, it goes left; if you then
release Z, but keep Super, it stops (as expected), but if you now press

Re: [Elementary-dev-community] Mouse-based Workspace Switching

2012-10-07 Thread Craig
Personally, I dislike hot corners. I always trip them by accident, which
seems like more of a problem than a solution. Given that corners are 4 of
the 5 easiest places on the screen to mouse-over, there should be some
guard to prevent against accidental tripping, like requiring a click or
something. That's my opinion, at least.

[Elementary-dev-community] No flash support, incomplete HTML5 videoplayer support, no java support (?) for midori(-granite) - IMHO release blocker

2012-10-07 Thread Eduard Gotwig
Hey,

I want to note that the missing flash support for the new midori and very
poor html5 videoplayer support, like not even youtube is supported, is in
my eyes, a release blocker.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/midori/+bug/1054327

https://bugs.launchpad.net/midori/+bug/767442

https://bugs.launchpad.net/midori/+bug/1063385

And it seems like, there is no java support as well, but I can't confirm
that.

I very often read, that you would be able to fix this trough installing
this, and this or this package... (ndiswrapper, etc.)

Please say me, which package is needed, and how should our users know this??

If they tick the "restricted software" checkbox, they should get flash
support, as well when installing ubuntu-restricted-extras (it basicly gets
installed when users tick this box?)

I want to note that other software webbrowsers, like GNOME's web, that use
webkitgtk+ have the same problems currently.

Re: [Elementary-dev-community] Mouse-based Workspace Switching

2012-10-07 Thread Dane Henson
This brings up another annoyance that I have seen in my use of elementary.
When I use Luna, I use it on a laptop.  I like to perform most of my actions
using the keyboard if I can.  However, when I use the "expose all windows"
shortcut [Super + w], I have to move my hand to the touchpad/mouse in order to
select the window I want.

I believe there should be an easy way (arrow keys, or the like) to select the
window I want and then press enter/space/something to bring it to the front.  I
haven't discovered anything for it yet, unless you guys snuck it into a newer
daily image.

If everyone agrees, I can open a bug for it.  Sorry for adding yet another
thing to the list.

2012/10/7 Sergey "Shnatsel" Davidoff
https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/94 is the answer

2012/10/7 Craig
Having just switched from Ubuntu 10.10 to Elementary on my desktop machine
(which I haven't used in over a year), I've noticed a real irritation when
trying to switch workspaces while one hand is on the mouse--the user has to
take a hand off the mouse, put both hands on the keyboard (many keyboards don't
have a super key near the arrow keys), activate the workspace switching motion,
and then return their hand to their mouse to continue working. This isn't as
big a problem on a laptop as most laptops have semi-decent trackpads right
below the keyboard; however, on a typical desktop, this is a real irritation.

Under older versions of Ubuntu (the ones that used the compiz cube by default)
I liked being able to hold ctrl+alt and then click/drag to change workspaces;
however, that still requires moving one hand to the keyboard which still feels
tedious if your hand isn't there already. I propose coming up with a solution.
It may not seem like a big deal, but if you're like me (having one application
open per workspace) this can be a real annoyance.

Thoughts?

Re: [Elementary-dev-community] Mouse-based Workspace Switching

2012-10-07 Thread satch...@gmail.com
While being able to switch workspaces with one hand, I think WASD is
non-obvious, especially when all four are commonly used as window
management shortcuts in other OSes (the first three in Ubuntu and the last
one in Windows; I think Super+S is also used in Windows for system
something or the other). I think a launcher makes sense, as do hot corners.

There's a proposal to assign the actions of Super+Arrow keys to Super+WASD
keys which is a great idea IMHO.

I think it would be great if you could attach a modifier key to hotcorners. So
the user could choose to have a hotcorner activate only if he were holding
CTRL, or whatever.

Craig,

As mentioned before, I think there are a few solutions we should make available
in addition to the keyboard shortcuts: a multitouch gesture (not yet
implemented), a dock shortcut (also not implemented), and hotcorners
(implemented). I personally use the hotcorners and I think they work really
well.

I don't think however that we should ship any hotcorners enabled by default.
For people that don't understand what hot corners are, having one activate is
incredible disorienting. But I think with the new Desktop plug, it's relatively
easy to configure.

I liked being able to hold ctrl+alt and then click/drag to change workspaces;
however, that still requires moving one hand to the keyboard which still feels
tedious if your hand isn't there already. I propose coming up with a solution.
It may not seem like a big deal, but if you're like me (having one application
open per workspace) this can be a real annoyance.

Thoughts?

trying to switch workspaces while one hand is on the mouse--the user has to
take a hand off the mouse, put both hands on the keyboard (many keyboards

desktop, this is a real irritation.

Under older versions of Ubuntu (the ones that used the compiz cube by
default) I liked being able to hold ctrl+alt and then click/drag to change
workspaces; however, that still requires moving one hand to the keyboard
which still feels tedious if your hand isn't there already. I propose
coming up with a solution. It may not seem like a big deal, but if you're
like me (having one application open per workspace) this can be a real
annoyance.
