On an installed test5.iso it does work here as well. I had previously tested an
installed test4.iso and it didn't work. As an aside I ran my mill on test4.iso
and it worked fine.

Can you confirm _which_ .iso file and whether this was in the live or

And for some reason the apt sources only contains debian security. So
you can't find any alternate packages.
Which is a bit annoying, I have no idea why what is basically a
default Debian installer with LinuxCNC on top would do that.

It looks like we need to add -qtwebkit and -gst0.10

I wonder if there is a metapackage that pulls them all in, or
reverse-depend that would get them?

Anyway, I will add the two missed packages and build a new test-iso

I tried your ISO on my laptop and it seems to work fine. Thanks for your hard
work there.
Mesaflash is included -thanks you.

If possible, I would prefer to have the libraries required for Qtvcp to be
included,
otherwise the user immediately gets an error on an ISO that should make things
easy :)

These are the packages:

python-pyqt5
python-pyqt5-qsci
python-opengl
python-pyqt5-qtopengl
python-pyqt5-qtsvg
python-pyqt5-qtwebkit
python-opencv
python-dbus.mainloop.pyqt5

python-espeak
python-gst0.10

for Designer:
qttools5-dev-tools

Thanks,

My proposal would be to add these to "Recommends", specifically in line 4

I installed and compiled LinuxCNC.2.9.0-pre0 in virtualbox.
After satisfying all the dependencies, configure choked on pango. I
installed python-glade2 to resolve it. Configure and make and make install
worked just fine. Runtests finished with no errors. LinuxCNC/Axis starts
and runs.
I created an appliance. The size is 4.5gb.
If anyone would like to install the appliance on their computer let me
know. I will place it somewhere to allow download.

I see the entire configure message that scrolls across the screen as the
configure runs. I just have to scroll it down until I see the top. That is
where I saw libgnomeprint and optreset messages. I don't remember seeing
the optreset message before. I have resolved the libgnomeprint before. I
could probably resolve it this time but the concept of diminishing returns
raises it's ugly head. Murphy may be lurking in the weeds. 樂 We will see.

But I was talking about what goes flying by on screen while ./configure
is running. Much more verbose than the log. You might have to set
scrollback thru history to 50,000 or more to see the whole thing.
But yes, libgnomeprint-2.2 is OLD. optreset I don't recall seeing so is

You can do this :

./configure 2>&1 | tee configure.log

This redirects both std output and error output to one pipe,
and tees it so you see the output on the screen and it also
writes to the file.

I'm doing it in a konsole shell. Nothing virtual. Right on the pi's ssh
login shell. I see 3 or 4 big commits since I last did the build/install
yesterday, so its running again now.

I'm doing this all except the final install, on a 240G SSD on a usb3
adaptor, for minimum stress on the u-sd card, even swap has been moved
to 120G SSD. my u-sd is a 64G, df says its at 17% so it has plenty of
room to wear level.

The font size issue seems to be a job for 'virtualbox'. I will install

My proposal would be to add these to "Recommends", specifically in line 4

Does that make sense?

I've been building that on my rpi4, sometimes 2-3x a day as commits are
made. All those machine sym names and such are in a normal font. All
others are up to date from the buildbot, running master-rt. Just checked
my other 3 machines. No font problems anywhere. But the pi is the inly
buster. Its running raspbian buster 10.4, uptodate except the stuff a
non-preempt kernel install would change.

dpkg-checkbuilddeps is NOT foolproof, so dbl-check the config logs for
stuff .configure is complaining about. Best advice I've got, Stuart.

Started LinuxCNC.
The first screen tells me to pick a machine from the list on the left.
The font of the list on the left is large enough to be written on top of
one another to the extent I cannot read any of the words - let alone choose
any.
The directory headers with the pull down icons are clear and readable. Pull
down function properly. The machine names are what are not readable.
I am running a 43 inch 4k screen. Is there an easy way to modify the size
of the font or is this something I will need to deal with on my monitor?

Gentlemen,

notice libgnomeprintui-2-2 is not loaded. Seems to have been removed from
the repositories decades(maybe not that long) ago. This gives me no cause

I could find the package as an rpm but I didn't try to install it as I

goes though - for some reason I will want/need to print from classic ladder.

I think that would be fine.

On another note, I also noticed the Buster Pi install instructions and the RT
kernel package. Does that package also include any recommended kernel load
settings? I haven't had time to try it out yet.

My proposal would be to add these to "Recommends", specifically in line 4
of control.bottom.in

Does that make sense?

2020-08-03 Thread Chris Morley
One ugly work around is to embed gremlin into a qt screen.
I just added a sample screen under qtvcp_screen/qtvcp_experimental/gremlin.ini
It is Qtaxis with both qt's graphics and gremlin.
I have reports gremlin works on the Pi.
It has some warts that could be worked on.

opencv should only be required if you use the camview widget.
It probably prevents one from using designer to modify screens - I'll look into
that.

The raspbian python-opengl module has been built for OpenGL ES, I tried several

Its not a showstopper, I've been able to make pyvcp show me what I've
needed. Biggest problem is the wasted screen real estate using those
primitive toools.

I tried the ISO and it installed fine on a VM.

I did notice the qtvcp sims don't run out of the box, they require some
packages and their dependencies. I was able to start them all after the
following were installed.

They seem to require:
python-pyqt5
python-pyqt5.qsci
python-pyqt5.qtopengl
python-pyqt5.qtsvg
opencv

Optional packages required are:
python-dbus.mainloop.pyqt5
gstreamer1.0-tools
python-espeak
espeak

The Blender sim requires:
pyqt5-dev-tools

Cheers, Phill.

Does anyone here know of any let or hindrance why 2.8 can't be

released this weekend?

We have Spanish and Chinese doc translations on the way, and I have
given up on French.

I have made a working ISO, just needs a new pull of the release
version to be finalised.

I have documented installing with the Pi preempt kernel. I _think_ it
works the first time. There are issues with file over-writing after
that, which _might_ be fixable with a "Replaces" in the kernel debs. I
haven't looked in to this in detail.
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-started/getting-linuxcnc.html#_installing_on_raspbian_10
Testing of these instructions would be welcomed.

You can't test the update case, the packages are not in the repository yet.

But you can try out a not-quite-release .iso file
http://www.linuxcnc.org/temp/2.8_test4.iso

Can the 2.9 hostmot2 driver additions, bugfixes be included?
