Re: [Emc-developers] Mesaflash docs

2019-08-09 Thread John
Hmm it is a command line tool so it should have a man page... I'll try
to look at it when I get the new mesaus.com all ironed out on DreamHost
with WooCommerce. At least my inventory will stay correct now with the
PNG Kits!

Get that ticker a tuneup Gene!

The usual suspects John. /usr/share/man, but drew a blank. And I'd
forgotten about the side effects of looking at it to see if I could find
a version, so had to delete my copy and pull your zip 3 times to
actually get one whose short help said 3.4. Then I'll have to remember
to put it on an old dell I keep to actually do the programming with but
its sitting on the floor behind me, and will stay there until I get my
ticker running smoothly and painfree again. Otherwise I might not get
much older than the 84 I am, and that would leave my lady w/o a
caregiver. As has been said, getting old is not for wimps.

Docs? Don't seem to be, At least there are no manpages for it on any of
my machines.

Some details seem to be lacking, like some sort of a rule that tells you
to use mesaflash3 under certain conditions. Thats something I haven't
seen discussed in the mesa docs I do have for the boards I use, which is
not near all. And I think it should be. Manpages would be nice.

mesaflash.deb is available in the linuxcnc.org debian archive.

linuxcnc.deb does not Depend on or Recommend mesaflash.deb, so mesaflash
does not get installed by default when you install linuxcnc.deb. This
was a deliberate choice way back when, since linuxcnc runs fine on
machines without Mesa hardware (eg sim-only machines, machines with
parports, Raspberry Pis, Beaglebones, etc). You could make the argument
that linuxcnc.deb should Recommend mesaflash (so you get mesaflash by
default but you can uninstall it), or at the very least Suggest it (so
it's easier to remember to install it by hand)...

mesaflash does not have a manpage or any online docs as far as i know.
The closest thing is `mesaflash --help`...
