Re: EN 61326 Vs EN 61131-2
Hi, here are the important differences: EN 61326 is a product family standard. EN 61131-2 is a product standard: IEC 61000-4-3 1,4 - 2,0 GHz / 800 / 960 MHz with 10 V/m, more detailed requirements and test setups for conducted disturbances in specific EMC zones. The product standard has pre-eminence to the the product family standard. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Yours sincerely Dipl.-Ing. VCCI-NVLAP, Site Registration MOU Status?
Dear Peers, Summary: Has anyone an authoritative and current word on the state of the NVLAP/VCCI MOU/MRA? In early March 2006 a VCCI person informed me that a MOU with NVLAP was to be in place by the end of that month. Indeed, the subsequent annual April update of the VCCI regulations showed NVLAP added to the accreditation bodies - with some vague phrase about when notification occurs. Last month I arranged for VCCI technical requirements to be added to our NVLAP accreditation scope in preparation for some upcoming and overdue site registrations. All seemed to be going smoothly... Then this week, in an email exchange with VCCI I was informed that the MOU did not happen yet and may not for a few months. Resolving this is important with regard to VCCI site registration fees: the old scheme costs money, the accreditation site registration scheme has no fees (and presumably, much faster). I have at least 5 sites to register for my employer real soon now, including our recently acquired 10 meter semi-anechoic facility. So the registration method will involve thousands of dollars and many hours of work if I the accreditation route is not available soon. RE: NRTL mark required for goods shipped into USA?
Hello Samuel, And, what say you of products not used in the workplace (I don't necessarily agree with the position stated by some that one's home is a workplace - other than for home based businesses)? Hello Charlie, The United States National Electrical Code does not require NRTL Listing for general installations, but it is a benefit. Products that are not NRTL marked are subject to the approval of the local electrical inspector. Re: Pop rivets as protective bonding devices
John, Expanding on what Peter said, the contact pressure between two items joined by a pop rivet(s) can only decrease from the as-manufactured value, especially if there is any movement in the joint from rotation, vibration, expansion/contraction from temperature changes, etc. Thus the contact resistance will increase with use and age, especially if there is any oxidation or corrosion of the metals. I developed network adapters for IBM Lexington and Lexmark for 11 years. At first we pop-riveted the shielding brackets onto printed circuit boards. Then we discovered that we could reduce some radiated emissions by up to 10dB -- ON BRAND-NEW CARDS -- by instead using: * A machine screw. * A split lock washer or star washer under the screw head. * The items to be joined. * Another split lock washer or star washer. * A nut. The split lock washers or star washers ensured that the contact was held under a high, constant pressure throughout the life of the product. We later simplified the assembly to: * A machine screw with integral Belleville washer. * The items to be joined. * A nut with a captive external-tooth star washer. A further simplification for high-volume products was to pierce and tap holes into the bottom piece of metal, making it into the nut(s).
