RE: Heretical Views of Product Safety Orthodoxy

2008-08-22 Thread Bill Owsley
Ah yes indeed! and it applies to EMC engineers also.
The irony is that once you've been in a Compliance position, either Safety or
EMC, you can never get away from the stigma. You will always be tagged to do
the Compliance work. Enjoy!

Attending puts you at the risk of conversion to a heretical
viewpoint of product safety.

The Director of Engineering, sometimes refers to me as 'the
heretic' and other times as 'the subversive'.

Is the pariah existence my lot in life if I stay in compliance
engineering ?

Teleproducts

2008-08-22 Thread Daniel Roman
Happy Friday everyone,

I am attempting to locate a company called Teleproducts (or Tele Products)
that makes (made) telecom test equipment. I have one of their units (an ATS
1000 Approval Test System) that is in need of repair. It is an analog telecom
tester. Search engines have not helped me locate them. If anyone knows their
whereabouts I’d appreciate a contact.

This is one piece of equipment that makes up a Genesys PSTN21 system and
Genesys has apparently gone belly up in the UK. I found references to them on
the web site of a company in Singapore but tech support pleas for help to that
company have gone unanswered.

Thanks in advance.

Google didn't take long:

However, a search for ATS1000 was not fruitful.

Hi Daniel,

If no one on the list can supply the info try
checking the incorporation data from the state
or country listed on the label. For example; if
Teleproducts were located in New Jersey at
the time of manufacture the NJ Secretary of
State records should show if they are out of
business or have been bought by another
company.

In this sense, your Director is viewing product safety as

Within the product safety discipline, views contrary to

Hello Reginald,

Just go to the UL Certifications Database (at www.ul.com) and put TV-1
into the field called Keyword (it's the last one on the data input page).

The results yield 4 listings, one for a US company, the others in Japan.

I would very strongly NOT consider them so. In another forum, we have a

find written in his chosen 'book of wisdom'. Naturally, since he is the
custodian of the absolute revealed truth, he does not balk at
embroidering it in order to convert the infidels.

The participants in the standards process continually find lack of
clarity, and even what some might call actual errors, in published
standards, and cases of wrong interpretation by test houses occur
regularly. This highlights a basic problem with certification bodies,
because in matters of determining what some less-than-explicit wording
means they tend to be prosecution, judge and jury, so cannot be wrong.
