RE: IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD standard updates
Hi all, Does anybody have access to updated 2001/2002 Edition of IEEE 802.3 standard: Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection CSMA/CD access method and physical layer specification? I' m interested to get updated Clause 14.3.1.1. in terms of isolation requirement for MAU-to-MDI interface. The IEEE 802.3:2000 I have [old version] stated an isolation of 1500Vac at 50/60Hz for 60s , as specified in Section 5.3.2, table 18 of IEC 60950:1991 [for a working voltage range of 130V... 250Vdc], as one of the 3 choices from the clause. What are the new IEEE 802.3 Clause 14.3.1.1 isolation requirements for MAU-to-MDI interface based on updated 3rd Ed of IEC 60950? Can anybody point me out the clause reqs from the standard? The percentage of heath dissipation by convection depends of the construction of each power supply (I don't believe most of the manufacturers are able to provide a number there). For terrestrial application, the convection being the dominant path, anything above 50% can be a good guess. By determining the density of the air at a given altitude versus normal operating level it can be determined the impact on convection, and ultimately the derating of the PS. To be noted that: forced air, or natural convection cooling processes are not affected the same way; PS' working in uncontrolled environments at high altitude can be affected by low ambient temperatures. And as a final note, sometimes the experiment is the fastest, easiest way. Alexandru Guidea CAE Inc. Hi Paul, For wire: CSA/UR Source: type of wire, gauge, rated voltage, max temperature, flammability rating, For shrinkable tubing: CSA/UR Source: material, rated voltage, flammability rating, max temperature, thickness You should get also a Declaration of Conformity from the cable harnesses' vendor that states all lot complies with your specs and you perform a follow-up procedure for part traceability on-site. The DoC has a spec sheet attached to it indicating manuf name, part number, date of manuf., manuf. names or UL/E # and CSA/LR # for wiring and sleeving, especially when wiring/sleeving source is changed. All lot or the package must be labeled with outside vendor' s name, part/code number, date of manufacturing, rev, stamped verified/inspected by QC, easy to trace by your QC dept. and inspect by your product NRTL's auditor. These thoughts reflect my opinion only, I' m willing to get other people' opinions into this problem. We evaluate our products to UL 3101, CSA 1010.1 and EN 61010-1. We purchase a primary component that relies on optical isolators to separate primary from secondary. It seems that these optical isolators only have UL approvals. Are there any additional requirements for European approval? If so, what are they? Are there optical isolators that have both UL and European agency approvals? All responses are appreciated. Fiber optics Issue
Please, could anyone give me some advice regarding the fiber optics? As I know the IEC 825-1 (and CFR Title 21 for US) and IEC 825-2 are used as reference lasers safety standards. What' s the procedure for certification process of a product (certified with IEC 65) which incorporate fiber optics (as both source and receiver on the same module). Is it requested an IEC 825-1 report attached to the IEC 65 report (what kind of measurements) made by a certified Laser Lab? Or is it enough just a statement from the laser products manufacturer with the proper classification and affixed on the shipping box the warning label with the statement of Class 1 or any other, according to IEC 825-1 or CFR 21. I want to know more about the from your experience. Thank you for any idea or advice, Best regards, Carmen Leitch Technology Int'l - This message is coming from the emc-pstc discussion list. Grounding Bond Test
Hello all, I want to clarify some of my thoughts regarding the ground bond specification for production line. EN 50116 for ITE specifies the earthing terminal or earthing contact may not exceed 0.1 ohms when 1.5 times the current capacity of hazardous circuits is applied, but not more than 25 A (ac or dc) for 60 seconds. The CSA standard C22.2 No. 0.4-M1982 Bonding and grounding of Electrical Equipment specifies for cord-connected equipment twice the rating of the attachment plug capacity, but not less than 30 A, 60 Hz current for 2 minutes. I am wondering which of these standards is applicable for routine test in production field. I think that EN 50116 is, but I am a little bit embarrassed by the CSA requirements of 30A and want to know your ideas on basis of a longer experience than mine. I appreciate any response to this e-mail. Thank you. Best regards, Carmen Filimon Safety Test Eng., Leitch Technology Int'l, Toronto - This message is coming from the emc-pstc discussion list. NEBS' Information
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm looking for information about NEBS compliance. I know there are 3 criteria levels for NEBS compliance devised by Bellcore, to ensure that telecommunication equipment is suitable for the customers needs and to reduce the time and expenses for the manufacturers. Are they voluntary or regulatory testing requirements for telecommunication field in North America and/or EU? Please, any appropriate link would be useful for me.
