Our final EMC Chapter meeting of the year is on 16 December in central London. Members and non-members alike are invited to this free event. Please note the requirement to register in advance. Best wishes Brian Jones EMC Consultant EMC Chapter Chair 2015 IEEE Event Notice The IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society UK and Ireland Chapter invites you to attend the forthcoming technical meeting on various topics. To be held at: University of Westminster 115 New Cavendish Street London W1W 6UW <http://www.westminster.ac.uk/about-us/visit-us/directions/cavendish> http://www.westminster.ac.uk/about-us/visit-us/directions/cavendish On Wednesday 16th December 2015 at 13.30 The meeting is open to all and free of charge, but please note the requirement to register in advance (see below). The EMC Chapter Annual General Meeting will be held at the same venue in the morning, see details below the technical meeting information. Meeting location: Room C3.05 Technical Meeting Agenda 13:30 - 13:35 Welcome - Brian Jones, EMC Chapter Chair 13.35 - 14.10 Developments in EMC Standards - John Woodgate 14.10 - 14.45 Electromagnetic Aspects of Safety - James Daniels 14.45 - 15.10 Coffee Break 15.10 - 16.00 Interference Control in Audio Systems - Anthony Waldron 16.00 - 16.30 Art Appreciation for Engineers - Prof. Alistair Duffy 16.30 Formal meeting ends 16.45 Networking/social meeting in a traditional London Pub: The King & Queen, 1 Foley Street, W1W 6DL, less than 1 minute from the University of Westminster and 5 minutes from Goodge Street tube. <http://www.thekingandqueenpub.com/the-pub.html> http://www.thekingandqueenpub.com/the-pub.html Papers abstracts Developments in EMC Standards - John Woodgate John will describe changes in EMC standards in 2015. Electromagnetic Aspects of Safety The EMC Directive only considers 'functionality' within its scope. However it is widely known and accepted the EM phenomena can have an effect on safety. This talk will highlight how EM safety assessments are mandated and what manufacturers should consider as part of product compliance with references to both the LVD and Machinery directives. Interference Control in Audio Systems - Anthony Waldron Anthony will present his latest thinking on the subject. Art appreciation for engineers - Alistair Duffy No, your committee cannot predict the content of this presentation either! Alistair will give us a light-hearted presentation in his inimitable style. Information on speakers John Woodgate John Woodgate was awarded the Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree of London University. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, a Member of the Institute of Acoustics, an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers, a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of the Audio Engineering Society. He is at present Chairman of the British Standards technical committee dealing with multimedia equipment and systems. He is a member of BSI committees on EMC and electroacoustics, a past Chairman of the Audio Engineering Society British Section and vice-chair of AES Standards Sub-committee SC-05 He has made major contributions to important international standards including IEC 60118-4, IEC 62489-1 and IEC 62489-2, all concerning hearing loop equipment and systems (AFILS). James Daniels, ESQ Consultant, Element James has many years of experience in helping manufacturers understand and meet their obligations regarding product compliance and CE marking; following several years working as Technical Manager for an EMC filter manufacturer, James held the position of Technical Director at a CE marking test and consultancy company, where he led a team that provided expert advice, training and testing services to a wide range of companies in regards to the majority of CE marking directives. James is now working for Element Materials Technology as their Early Stage Qualification consultant, continuing to provide guidance to manufacturers in regards to CE marking and global certification. Anthony Waldron Anthony Waldron's interest in interference control developed during the 1980s while working as Head of Sound at the Royal National Theatre. The close association of analogue audio electronics and the computer control systems necessary for theatre production produced interference problems that could not be solved using the accepted audio engineering design techniques. After specifying new audio control systems for the Royal National Theatre, the manufacturing company - CADAC Electronics - employed him as Technical Manager. Since 1994, he has specialized in design techniques for obtaining EMC compliance for audio equipment, working closely with customers and system integrators to help them get the best performance from the company's products and from other system components that they need to work with. He now runs an EMC consultancy, specializing in audio equipment and systems. Professor Alistair Duffy BEng(Hons), MEng, MBA, PhD, CEng, FIET, IEEE Fellow Alistair Duffy is a Fellow of the IEEE and a past Distinguished Lecturer. His interests are in numerical electromagnetics, measurements and the cross-validation of both of these. He is Professor of Electromagnetics at De Montfort University, Leicester. The event is an open meeting, with all welcome. There is no charge for attendance. If you plan to attend you need to register by informing: Brian Jones Email: <mailto:e...@brianjones.co.uk> e...@brianjones.co.uk For registration you will need to provide: Name, Company, (if applicable) Whether attending the Technical Meeting, the Annual General Meeting, or both View the location details, map and information available at: <http://www.westminster.ac.uk/about-us/visit-us/directions/cavendish> http://www.westminster.ac.uk/about-us/visit-us/directions/cavendish There is no on-site car parking.
