are familiar with OSHA regulations in the US know of restrictions in a) a
person lifting a mass to hang on the wall and or b) restrictions on a mass
suspended from a wall. Is there a particular OSHA document that would give
me this kind of information. Thanks for your help.

Kevin,

Follow-up to my earlier post. I just found the entire Applications Manual
for the Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation at the following URL:

http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/94-110.html

You can download it in one piece, 3.9 MB or you can get it in 8 different
files. I just started the download of the entire document so I would have
it here.

You can see a brief summary of the document at the following URL:

http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/lifting1.html

Re: OSHA and restrictions on suspending a mass on a wall

Kevin,

Regarding b) most UL standards require an equipment hung from a
wall to sustain a weight 4 times the weight of the equipment after
being mounted in accordance to manufacturer's instructions. If you
do not specify type of wall, the test is done on a dry wall of a
specific thickness - refer to UL1950 for details. You will note that
ceiling is not specified in the standard - however, same test is
applied for ceiling mounted equipment - you wouldn't want a ceiling
mounted projector to fall on someone's head

Regarding a) no there is no such limitation. However, there is a
limitation on the force handles used for carrying equipment must
sustain -also refer to UL1950 for details.

Best Regards,
