Chuckle... ;-) You forgot to mention it, but to me that is a BS
workaround I'd not settle for calling less than a bug. Maybe it still
won't run after the reboot, I haven't tried it. Shrug. Its too darned
close to winderz anyway, and it really pi$$ed me off when I had to click
through a damned EULA to install the winderz ttf fonts. That sorta crap
gives me the hives, like its got some penicillin in it or something.

I've lived through that (a pen reaction) twice, but really, once was
enough. I got the msg the first time, but my Dr. didn't.

I've since taken a better look at QCad, it does look as if it will do what
I want, provided I can get the number, number order correct in the command
line. Their online help isn't much help. Overviews galore, but no real
howto's. But when I'm awake, not the case this time of the night, I'll
figure it out. This I think is a case of the mouse not being all that much
help, good for clicking icons, but pixel by pixel just isn't accurate
enough. So the command line rules in this case.

Thanks Kyle.

as well be me. Then I know if someone likes me, they like me.

Then sketchup 8 took a dump and I had to reboot as it took the GL graphics
with it.

So I am back to QCad, which will do fine when I get the command line
figured out. The online docs however, are not worthy of being called help
files.

And I apparently do not have the mail system in sync yet since the reboot,
its fetching alright, but not telling kmail its there.

Sorry Gene, I failed to mention the point about after it crashing the
first time you need to run 'wine regedit' and update a dword.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp8\GLConfig\Display]

"HW_OK"=dword:0001

I am sorry I forgot to mention that.

If you are happy to install under wine, then it might be worth trying
the Alibre cad demo.

I actually paid the $100 and run it under Windows on my Mac either
through Bootcamp or VMWare.

The process there is to create the 3D model / assembly, then create 2D
dimensioned drawings from the model, then print the drawings.

[Emc-users] Google sketchup 8 question

2011-03-04 Thread gene heskett
Whoever sent me that link to Solid Edge, that DL installed under wine, but
does not work. Even if I give it the license file that went with it.

So I then installed sketchup 8, but in trying to figure out a way to draw a
rectangle, a side view of a stick for this cabinet, with the measurements
visible, you can't do that. The screen then went grey and 2 minutes later
I killed it. But now it won't restart, can't get a lock on the GL stuff.

I cannot find any of it running with htop, and haven't the foggiest where
wine might keep its lock files, does this mean I have to reboot to clear
the lock every time sketchup farts? Thats used bovine food. Killing
/var/lock/subsys/wine doesn't help.

There was a new batch of updates this morning, so I'll do those and reboot.
Then I'll look at QCad again.

Wish me _good_ luck. ;-)
