Re: [Emc-users] LinuxCNC on the MakiBox?
I pre-ordered one of these back when they were on a kickstarter-alike website, back in February of 2012. Nearly a year and a half later, I (like all but a handful of supporters) still don't have a printer. While they appear to be making progress still (i.e., have shipped a few alpha boxes to supporters and maintain an active blog) I would not recommend to anyone to pre-order this 3d printer or defer buying another shipping printer in anticipation of the makibox's availability. [Emc-users] LinuxCNC on the MakiBox?
MakiBox makes small 3D printers, priced from $200 to $350 and will soon be making an inexpensive filament extruder. This from the technical specs has me wondering if running one with LinuxCNC could improve the resolution, combined with a smaller nozzle hole. Positional Resolution: 0.04mm (full step resolution) in XYZ, output resolution depends on output speed and nozzle size. -- This SF.net email is sponsored by Windows: Build for Windows Store. http://p.sf.net/sfu/windows-dev2dev ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users

Cleaning the filament helps, but, in round numbers, you're still stuck with barely sub-millimeter-ish XY resolution: a peninsula-shaped feature requires two side-by-side threads. My M2 has a 0.35 mm nozzle and produces a reliable 0.4 mm thread, so the thinnest wall works out to 0.8 mm. That's why all the manufacturers now tout their printer resolution as, oh, 50 microns and conveniently leave out the fact that they're talking about Z axis resolution. I suppose it's just marketing. -- Ed softsolder.com -- This SF.net email is sponsored by Windows: Build for Windows Store. http://p.sf.net/sfu/windows-dev2dev ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
