I couldn't say how though, either.

No, if it emulates an HMI device, then it loses focus when some other window
is selected. That would be the worst situation. Maybe there is some
way you
can capture an HMI device for use by a specific program, but I don't know
how to do that.

On the other hand, the PPMC has enough digital input pins to do a nice
pendant,
especially if you are not using all the separate limit switch inputs. See
http://pico-systems.com/pendant.html

(I thought I had a schematic of the pendant wiring for the PPMC, but it
is very similar
to the way the minimill pendant is set up. I'll try to get that drawing
on there
shortly.)

These use diodes to encode the switch settings, so you can hook up 7
axis selections (XYZAB plus feedrate and spindle override) and 3 jog
rate selections with only 5 digital inputs.

The E-stop switch should be separate, and wired into the e-stop chain.

No, no real-time. It's just an input device like a keyboard or mouse,
so it's not necessary for it to run in real time. The MPG runs on
it's own parallel port, and my USB joystick runs on one of the USB
ports.

No lag that I can determine.

John,

I've got both a USB joystick and the MPG attached to my machine. They
both come in handy at different times.

Whoops -

I have one with a "parallel port" on it - I missed the USB bit - I should know
better than to do emailing before coffee…

I got mine from cnc4pc.com - have a peek there to see what I was thinking about
wrt the parallel port "stuff".

(the C22 pendant interface, and the MPG-2 pendant is what I picked up from
CNC4PC. It all went together very well, and plugs into a parallel port.

the E-Stop function is tied into hardware, no software required for the EStop
to work with the "parallel" port pendant - I wonder if the USB version uses
"unused" pins on the usb interface for hardware E-Stop ??)

2012-10-07 Thread Igor Chudov
I am messing around with a very interesting Lagunmatic 5HP CNC milling
machine that has a bad VFD drive.

The drive is being professionally repaired.

What I noticed is that this machine has an awesome MPG. You switch X, y and
Z and turn it and the machine advances very precisely.

I wanted to know if there is a commercial off-the-shelf product that could
work with EMC2?

Preferably USB based?

Any pointers?
