I owned waterjet cutting machine for 6 years and did a complete
retrofit of CNC controls (yes, of course, LinuxCNC is running that
machine at the moment). Feel free to drop an email with any questions
you have, I will try to answer as good as I can.

IMHO that kinematics system of rotating the nozzle around TCP is very
nice and the main reason it is so widely used is because it is very
compact in dimensions. I have been trying to come up with something as
compact like that to be used in the 5 axis plasma machine I intend to
build for myself, but I have not come up with anything useful.
I have no idea, how is it called, I just know that timing belt is used
to drive that tilted rotary joint.

See that ring down near the surface of material, help in such a long
arm? That is used to probe material surface before piercing and during
cutting and also to prevent colliding nozzle somewhere. IMHO fixed TCP
is mandatory for anything like this. I do not see, how you could do
something like that with this kind of 5 axis head:

Yes, there is a ring for THC, but it does not provide correct height
as the nozzle is tilted.
