Hello Since the automatic Updates never functioned, at least under Linux because of insufficient rights that is no problem anyways. As long as you are not using the Repositories of the Distribution. Okay thanks for that earlier clarification Patrick :) Just to be clear, it doesn't matter what I do (allow or disable automatic updates). There will be no more support for enigmail in the future at all? As already mentioned several times, I'll continue to support and maintain Enigmail 2.1.x for Thunderbird 68 for at least 6 months after the availability of Thunderbird 78. I might extend this for a few more months, but not more. At this point, to continue using enigmail, I've frozen the updates on my workstations. As long as TB 78.2 is not released, there is no need to disable updates. Otherwise you'll miss security and stability updated for TB 68. The latest update to Interlink is a/o 07 June, so three-ish weeks, and twice the previous month. It has Linux support but there is no SlackBuild package for Slackware, although that's trivial considering they have tarballs for GTK 2&3 at the dev's website. I suppose it would be okay to move forward with OpenPGP in Thunderbird, but I've been using Enigmail for so long I just feel like I would be missing some kewl features that I've come to depend on. Maybe some folks on this list could chime in on that last concern of mine? In TB 78, the feature set will certainly be smaller than in Enigmail. Hi Patrick, I was a reviewer for most of these changes. THAT is good to know for us, and a wise QA decision. Quite some work for you, too I guess. THANK YOU!!! The implementation has started off from the existing Enigmail code, and you can still see quite a bit of it. But certain things are obviously new or different. I did not contribute as a developer to what has been implemented/changed in Thunderbird, but I was a reviewer for most of these changes. >> Details are available from the following post: >> https://mail.mozilla.org/pipermail/tb-planning/2020-May/007621.html >> >> Aligned with this release, I created a first beta version of >> Enigmail 2.2. I will continue to support Enigmail for Thunderbird for at least 6 months after the release of TB 78. Depending on how many users will hold back upgrading from TB 68, I might also extend that period. Furthermore, I will continue to develop and maintain Enigmail for Postbox; likely for several more years. -Patrick signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ___ enigmail-users mailing list enigmail-users@enigmail.net To unsubscribe or make changes to your subscription click here: https://admin.hostpoint.ch/mailman/listinfo/enigmail-users_enigmail.net

You'll have to hold back upgrading Thunderbird. There will be no fully-functional version of Enigmail for Thunderbird 78. -Patrick signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ___ enigmail-users mailing list enigmail-users@enigmail.net To unsubscribe or make changes to your subscription click here: https://admin.hostpoint.ch/mailman/listinfo/enigmail-users_enigmail.net

I notice from the tb-planning email that (for understandable reasons) they intend to go ahead with releasing TB 78 regardless of the state of its PGP support. If this is not sufficiently stable or featureful, will we have to hold back on upgrading TB until some future release, or will we still be able to install a fully-functional version of Enigmail? [Enigmail] OpenPGP Support in Thunderbird 77.0b3
The Thunderbird developers have released the first beta version of Thunderbird 77 that contains native support for OpenPGP emails. The development has not yet finished; there are still itches and glitches, but the basic functionality of encryption, decryption, signing and verification of emails is there. The functionality is still considered experimental; there are still known issues and white spots. Details are available from the following post: https://mail.mozilla.org/pipermail/tb-planning/2020-May/007621.html Aligned with this release, I created a first beta version of Enigmail 2.2. Enigmail 2.2 is a special release that serves one single purpose: help users migrate their keys and settings from Enigmail/GnuPG to Thunderbird -- nothing more. If you want to try Enigmail 2.2 Beta 1 along with Thunderbird 77 beta 3, you can install it from here: https://enigmail.net/download/nightly/enigmail-nightly-enigmail-2.2-branch-all.xpi -Patrick signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ___ enigmail-users mailing list enigmail-users@enigmail.net To unsubscribe or make changes to your subscription click here: https://admin.hostpoint.ch/mailman/listinfo/enigmail-users_enigmail.net
