I don't know but the last package I saw was of 2005, however it looked
nice so I tried to install it.

I thought so. Evidence isn't being developed anymore. The replacement is 
called Entropy. Try building that. I think it's Being developed by 
codewarrior his page is here: http://hisham.cc/

incidentally, there is also a file manager (though not working the last 
time I compiled enlightenment about two months ago) included with E17 if 
you are interested in file managers. It could very well have been 
running within the last two months.

There is no truth to this statement whatsoever.  Evidence development
has not stopped, and Entropy is not a replacement for anything.
